Some great pictures and a beautiful showcase for what these islands can offer. Ive lived here all my life and not been to half of them. Some additional places id highly recommend. Hadrians Wall in the north of England is simply breathtaking. St Andrews is one of the prettiest towns in Scotland with beaches, a castle and of course golf. You did well to cstch Ireland with the sun out... And Skye when the clouds arent 3 feet off the ground. But both are spectacular regardless of the weather.

The British Isles have so much in a days journey from any point. The scenery is green and beautiful with beautiful sea cliffs on all sides. You can tour historical sites going back to the Neolithic, or literary sites from Shakespeare or Jane Austen, to movie locales. I like that the focus of your videos is the place itself and not "we stayed here, we ate here" etc.

Nice video. But the term 'British Isles' is not an official geographical area, it is an antiquated term from over a century ago prior to Ireland gaining it's independence, and it is quite offensive (or at the very least very annoying) that Ireland is referred to as a "British" Isle given the difficult history between the two islands. You should call this video 'Top 25.....in Britain and Ireland'. Apart from the title, great video....

@@michaelking9772 The Irish government doesn’t recognise the term and we get to say where we live.
@paulburgess2832 жыл бұрын
@@michaelking9772 This doesn't really make sense. Of course if you are from Northern Ireland and consider yourself both then great. However for many people from the Republic it can be a reminder of the grabby nature that was the British empire and all the negatives and oppression that went along with it. It was never simply a geographical term and lumps an independent nation under the banner of its former oppressor, and still suggests at dominion. While it doesn't really bother me like many others, I can understand where they're coming from. It really makes no sense in modern terms for anyone to keep using it. It's not like Britain and Ireland or The UK and Ireland is much more demanding to say. If nothing else it is factually incorrect, with there being absolutely nothing british about 3/4 of the particular island in question and the other 1/4 being part of the UK, not Britain. Its a term that could only ever cause division.
@kieran51882 жыл бұрын
@@michaelking9772 well the fact that you refer to yourself as Irish and British obviously indicates that you've no issue with Ireland being referred to as a British Isle. For all of those in Northern Ireland who don't think of themselves as British - but just Irish, and for all us who live in the south (which isn't British)....the idea of being referred to as British, or living in a British Isle is offensive. You're from the same island so I'm guessing you can understand that. My view is not blinkered..... I'm just pointing out to the guy who posted the video (who obviously isn't aware of the island if Ireland's complicated history) the meaning of the term British Isles.... It's a stupid outdated term, it isn't an official term, so it's odd that some people still use it. Some people would consider it odd that you consider yourself British and Irish (I'm not one of them), you are what you are....no skin off my nose! Don't appreciate your snide comment though.....quite obtuse on your part to not understand how many dislike (if not quite offended by) the term....
@EASYTIGER10 Жыл бұрын
"British" is not a nationality, despite its widespread use as such. Nor is "Great Britain" a country - It's a geographic term for the largest Island off the north coast of France and the "British Isles" is the name of the entire archipelago Strictly speaking "British" means "a person or thing originating on the Island of Great Britain or in a broader sense, the British Isles. "The correct term for the nationality of someone from - say, London, or Swansea or Dundee is "Citizen of the United Kingdom". In summary, "British" or "Britain" does not designate ownership or nationality when used correctly - as here - as a geographical term, so being offended is pretty silly.

Congratulations on a great video and thank you for showing the beauty of our land. Growing up in London, I can tell you most people prefer to get a cheap flight somewhere sunnier abroad during their limited holiday time. It wasn't until after spending 10 years living in the tropics that I began spending holiday time in cooler climates instead. Recently, I came back to explore my homeland of Britain and Ireland and have discovered places so beautiful that I would be reluctant to even share them for fear of mass tourism. I had to visit 50 countries before discovering that my own country was the most beautiful place on Earth. PS I think the term British Isles should be avoided as it's understandably insulting to the Irish who fought for their independence from Britain. Most classical writers distinguished between Britannia (Great Britain) and Hibernia (Ireland). Many Irish people resent any collective term at all, which I think is going too far, because it's clearly a coherent geographical and cultural region with things in common, politics and history aside. For now I'm just sticking with "Britain and Ireland"

I really want to explore that area more! Any specific places you recommend?

@@RyanShirley Manchester and Liverpool are thriving cities. Cresswell Crags in Derbyshire is geographically unique and has prehistoric caves with cave art (you may have to book visits to those separately). The North York Moors are beautiful and have stunning scenery to visit. Walking along the Pennine Way from Derbyshire to Scotland is worth it too. Formby Beach near Liverpool has prehistory and modern history plus a forest reserve. Try all those!

I'm Irish and I fully understand that Ireland is part of the British Isles. This is because I am educated and know that 'British Isles' refers to the islands and not the geopolitical make up.

'British Isles' is a geographical term. The island of Ireland is part of the 'British Isles'.
@RobertBarrett-e6q10 ай бұрын
@@liukin95 No, its a loaded geopolitical term as opposed to a mere "geographical term".

To the narrator can you please learn how to pronounce the names of places properly. Stonehenge is not stonehedge and Wales is not wells.
