Great video. Quick question/suggestion: In most videos like this, they always show the lure when it's rigged correctly moving through the water. Could you show how a lure looks when it's NOT rigged correctly and how it moves through the water? I feel it would be a good comparison to see. Thanks again!

Good vid, very informative, only thing I'd say for beginners is that with the paddletails and jerkbait plastics, you can definitely fish them too fast, but no such thing as fishing them too slow. Drag them past the boat 10 times to check your rigging and action.

A easy remedy for the Knot mistake is to just tie on a power clip or duo lock that matches the lure size. This way the lure moves natural vs dragging to one side. A issue maybe to consider is also scent. While several plastic brands have built in scent, the addition of more scent particularly gel based products for plastics often makes a huge difference. Most anglers apply these scents at the time of angling however if you soak your plastics ahead of time all you need to do is snap on the lure with a clip or lock and your good to go. If you do get the g el on your hands simple basic cheap toothpaste neutralizes the smell and keeps the wife from complaining that the steering wheel smells like fish.

Casting far is a key to catching fish (being unseen, covering lots of water etc.) Using less tackle, lighter hsrdware and lighter line etc. is also key. I just switched from live bait to artificial and can’t cast nearly as far - how do you cast further with small soft plastics and light jigs?

I have been watching and learning from your Videos. I have a question that hopefully someone could answer for me. I've asked several times already but no replies. The question isn't about the lure but the line instead. A few months ago I decided to try using braided line. If I'm using 15 lb. test braided what would that equal in mono as far as strength ????????

Simple: match the hatch in both size and color. Just copy what you see. Glass minnows around? Small bright lure. Mullet getting busted? Bigger darker lure. Don’t over think it. For lure color I just mimic the water color itself or bottom. Catch a snook up a dirty river and it will be golden and dark but that same fish on the beach will be almost pure white. Fish try to blend into their environment to hide so you should follow that lead if you want a natural presentation. You can never go wrong with silver as most bait fish are that color. If fishing on the bottom (for reds) you can go dark (brown, green, even black) for a crab like appearance. And yes red disappears first underwater, remember your spectrum ROYGBIV with violet being visible the longest and yellow green in the middle.

Great video but seriously, who uses knots to attach their lures? What about snap links? Quick change, your leader doesn't get shorter everytime you change a lure and it is a way much stronger connection than a loop knot. Just saying.....

I joined SaltStrong for an entire year @$100 (my mistake) & then quit. Wyatt (on KZbin) is brilliant & worthy! He has helped me more than the entire year subscription when he wasn't onboard with SS. It all depend on one's level of fishing knowledge and time commitment to the subsciption courses (which cost more $$$$). My 1st year subsciption was a waste, and now Wyatt is helping me retrieve my loss. So why join SaltStrong? Better prices on bait, rigs, promo grab "blue-light specials" if your not paying attention because you have other responsibilities? With the brilliant hacks involved (seen here), I'll stick with the free value of SaltStrong KZbins, unless motivated in Merritt Island, FL otherwise. We're ALL at different levels of experience, so why should I pay $100 subscription for basics SaltStrong provides on KZbin. If I were on the weekly SS committee team, I would suggest potential subscribers go through SaltStrong KZbin video FIRST and then consider joining for advanced courses, discounted gear, and honing in on advanced skills. I wish I had known this first and the joined the insider SaltStrong membership. For me, it was a waste of money taking SaltStrong 1st year membership Fishing Skills 301 before taking Fishing Skills 101or 201. Bottom Line: Learn everything you can from KZbin Fishing Skills before putting money for advanced SaltStrong skill-level protocols.
