I got the 1280T yesterday. Very impressed with the volume and bass response. I just ordered a pair of wedge stands which will improve the response even further. Edifier once made earbuds (outer ear, not inserted inside the ear). That's what got me so interested in their engineering. Fantastic products.

A missing piece of information from your video is that not all new collectors are aware of the phono preamp/phono stage. Phono stage is necessary for vinyl playback. Sure many newer turntables have a built in phono stage, but not all do. I'd hate to see someone wonder why their music is so quiet when they just dropped over $100 on a new set of speakers. Of the speakers mentioned in your video, I believe the Klipsch are the only ones with a built in phono preamp.

Hi, I'm new to the whole topic of vinyl and speakers. Can you please explain what you commented before? I'd like to learn what mistakes to avoid. Thanks!
@edwarde54522 ай бұрын
@magdalenam6184 of course! Thank you for asking. When dealing with audio playback you'll hear the terms 'Line' and 'Phono.' Line level comprises most modern forms of audio playback (cds, tapes, aux etc). Phono stage is specifically for vinyl playback. The vinyl signal on its own is very low in volume. The phono stage will boost the signal in a way where we can hear it. I recommend a channel called Vinyl Eyezz. He explains much more and is a great resource for beginners
@brendontompa-clinch23063 ай бұрын
Heres a decent tip. Go to your local thrift stores, garage sales, etc. Pick up the speakers, usually the heavier they are compared to their size, the better quality they are. Find the heavy ones, search up the model number, and go from there. it's a rule of thumb, but it will help weed out all the low quality speakers that are mostly empty space with low quality components.

As someone just starting to get into vinyl playing, I’ve really appreciated going to your videos for guidance! Do you have any experience with the Fluance Ai61? Hey! Thanks for this comment, means a lot and really appreciate the kind words! Unfortunately in this case, I haven't had an opportunity to use/listen to those speakers, but from just doing some reading online, they look fantastic! I'd be open to making a second video like this in the future and testing them out! From what I can tell from digging around online, it seems they are very on par with the Klipsch from a technical perspective, and it may be one of those cases where it is personal preference on style/design & sound signature. The fluance's have more color options, for example. But from the looks of it, both offer top of the line audio quality in that budget range and all the features you need, like bluetooth, subwoofer out port, and many input options. Again, haven't listened to them in person, so hard to say for now. Will keep my eye on them for sure!

For me there is only one answer: the Large Advent Loudspeaker. They sound like rock and roll, and bring out the best in vinyl with a deep chesty sound and adjustable treble level. Awesome video! I'm 100% considering purchasing the R-51PM! Total noob question tho: - Do you still have to use an external preamp with these even though they are "powered" speakers? The setup I'm looking for is these R-51PM with a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo turntable, but I'm still confused about the preamp part.
@nloop Жыл бұрын
Hello! Thanks for watching. It is my understanding that the Debut Carbon Evo does not contain a built in pre-amp, so you would need to get a phono pre-amp for it. That's the short answer. Long answer: Powered speakers have built in amps, such as the Klipsch R51PM! But those built in amps are there to allow the SPEAKERS to generate sound. Similarly, some turntable have built in pre-amps of their own. This allows the TURNTABLE to generate their sound. Combining powered speakers and a turntable with a built in app means that they both are making their sounds, and the speaker can play easily. In this case it goes: Turntable ->Klipsch. But that's not your case. Turntables without a built-in amp have no way of generating their sound for the speaker to understand. That's where an external phono pre-amp comes in. In simple terms, this allows the powered speakers to understand the signal coming from the turntable and output the music. In your case, it would go: Debut EVO -> External Pre-Amp -> Klipsch. Not applicable to your case, but there are speakers that are not powered, so those don't have an amp. In those situations it would go: Debut Evo -> External Pre-Amp -> Speaker Amp -> Passive Speaker. Very complicated lol Check out my other videos on my other turntables and vinyl accessories for good recommendations on external phono pre-amps and for more info on how it all works! Hope it's all helpful.
