I switched from Garmin 520 to Wahoo Elemnt Bolt v1, and was generally happy with the switch. There were pros and cons for both platforms. Then I upgraded it to the new Bolt with the color screen. It's so much better. Wahoo's central UI idea is that you configure fields, set a new route, etc, from the phone, rather than the constrained clunky UI on the device itself. Though on Bolt v2 you *can* use the menus and buttons to point on a map and say "take me there". A nice aspect of my upgrade path was that I was able to sell my old computers, so each upgrade set me back just about €100.

Thank you for such detailed feedback! With the switch to 840, I've also discovered the option to configure it from a phone. However, used it on initial setup only. What was your core reason for saying goodbye to Garmin BTW? 😂

@@ZavyalovCycling It was a general disillusionment with the Garmin platform, a feeling that they are a market incumbent who just does not care, with the clunky Garmin Connect website, with the Live Track alternately working and not working every three months, activity sync randomly becoming a pain, requiring reboots of the device and the phone for the acitvity to upload. That realization that it's impossible to change the route without stopping the activity. Turns out, Live Track on Wahoo is not rock solid either, and showing text message notifications on screen is even worse. 520 -> Bolt v1 was a significant step up in battery life (like 8 hours to 16) and space for maps (something like 100 MB to 2 GB). Both of these devices didn't have onboard routing, but Wahoo allowed several ways to work around it, like being able to create a route on Strava or Komoot and upload it to the device right away.

Nice review. I plan on picking up the 840 soon. My main focus is the navigation. What's your experience with rerouting? How snappy is it?
@ZavyalovCycling9 ай бұрын
Hi! With this focus in mind, you must be happy with the 840. Reroutes swiftly! And bottom line, it allows uploading a new custom course on the fly, without finishing a current activity.

@@ZavyalovCycling This was such an embarassing omission for Garmin, good to know that it's finally solved.

Does it have a return home option in navigation like the wahoo?
@ZavyalovCycling6 ай бұрын
Hi! On Garmins a similar option is called “Back to start”. It can guide you along the same route or the most direct route - whatever you prefer.

Can you see cars on the navigation screen?

If you mean the Varia radar bar on the right of the screen, it always overlays, including the map screen.
