I think Ruffian would have a place in that list if she had lived longer. She was a horse of great potential, but after 11 out of 11 won races she died in the 12th. Also, Bold Ruler (Secretariat's father) was her paternal grandfather.

Don’t ever count Dr. Fager out heonly lost three times in his career one for a disqualification at Garden State Park not because of his ability. There were only three horses that ever passed Dr Fager , Damascus twice and Buckpasser . He still to this day owns the world record for the mile on dirt in 1:32 and 2/5 ths while carrying 134 lbs.

Here's my biggest knock on Man O' War. And there is more against him than this like his times weren't as fast as Secretariat. But a lot of people saw Citation and Man O War both race. And the general opinion amongst them was Citation was better than Man O War and would of beat him in a head to head race in their prime.

I found out something crazy. Secretariat was that fast because of his huge heart. His heart weighed 10 kg while the average horses heart weighs 3.5!

Winx never had opposition. So as good as she was, she wasn't as good as Black Caviar. These are the top 3 racehorses, which is ALWAYS subjective. Man O War was better than Citation. Better than Secretariat. He is considered the greatest race horse ever, by people who know racing. Not by folks who don't. Subjective. Every one has an opinion. Winx won what? 33? I can't remember without looking it up. It's okay to consider her one if the greats.

Ruffian 2.seabiscuit 3.secretariat I understand for it to be weird to add seabiscuit but he actually had a lot of heart just wasn’t showing it, and he was able to be more that he could because of the things he did, small horse with a big jockey, that’s almost more than what he could handle and still did it, not only that they were both injured and made a combat and were able to win again one more time, I still like other race horses but I think that he’s the most forgotten horse out there, this is the way I see, if someone wants to think otherwise you can say, I would like see what point of view others have

Like all athletes injuries can occur and they are racing at too young of an age that takes a toll. Slaughter houses buying up horses at auctions is where you should direct that passion towards ..

These 3 horses definitely notable and have their places in history and people's minds, however, NO horse, even the horse who stole his nickname, will ever outdo the greatest, Man O' War. Secretariat was great and his TC was the best, although honorable mention to Count Fleet in his Belmont, and Citation ran in 1 year what Big Red the original and the wannabe ran in 2 years, and Dr. was more of a sprinter, but it makes for a good discussion, doesn't it!

There's people out there that will say Secretariat is way overrated, but everyone who loves Secretartiat will go after them like those people have love Secretariat & can't have their own opinion. The horse couldn't win a race when he was sick, but then horses that were get injured like Count Fleet, who bowed his tendon in the belmont & fought with the jockey when the jockey tried to stop him. Did Count Fleet set a track record no, but he did hold the largest margin until secretariat. Honestly you can't compare horses to each other. They're all great in their own way whether they still have track records or not.
