My family's first big dog was a rottweiler. She was given to us by my aunt who only ever left her tied in the backyard. My mother was beside herself with fear. She worried the dog would kill me or one of my little brothers (4 boys ages 2-13). That dog, Bella, - rest her soul- was the best dog we ever had. Hands down. she was smart. So sweet with us. Tolerant. Easily trained. Obedient. Never jumped. Never bit or growled at us. And hardly EVER barked. She scared the piss out of me when she did bc it was like we forgot she was even capable. And it was so loud and so scary that my mother slept better than ever knowing she was there to watch our home. If Bella was barking, you went outside to check.

The hardest lesson I ever learned was that dogs aren't safe in the yard. My mom called me at college to tell me our other dog had been bitten by a snake (copperhead most likely) and had to be rushed to the vet. His face was swollen. Anti venom. Everything. And I knew it in my heart when I asked Me: What about Bella? mom: [stepdad] came inside and said he thought Bella was dead. I told him she wasn't. but when I went outside, she WAS dead. I'm so sorry, Dakota. And I just cried. I was literally just sobbing bc I really thought I'd have at least 5 more GOOD years with her I thought she'd be with me, old and grey when i finished college and started my life. All I could say was, "it's not your fault mom. She was a good dog... she had a good life. Its ok, mom. " But I'm crying while i write this. Its been 5 years. I tried to keep her collar in a ziplock bag to preserve the smell of her, but its long gone. Copperheads are a danger, even in the city parts of Texas. In a way, she died to warn/protect us from snakes. I just wish I could've told her how much of a good girl she is and what a great job she did bringing peace of mind and joy to our family. She's the first soul I want greeting me into heaven.

I chose a Rottweiler as my medical and mobility service dog, I can’t imagine life without him. He carries or pulls heavy things for me, dragging forty pounds of stove pellets inside is such a huge help and he loves to do it. He is gentle, eager, intelligent and incredibly perceptive. He absolutely adores kids, and his best friend is our Shihtzu. I couldn’t have imagined two dogs who are so different to become so close, Baron always looks out for little Vader, and they always sleep in a pile. Baron is also hilarious, he’s obsessed with flowers, and it’s become a little embarrassing when your male Rottweiler begs you to buy him a bunch of roses in the grocery store.😂

I'm in love with GSDs. I have one, and he's the greatest pet i ever had. I would advise seeking professional help with training if you pick one as your first dog. They're extremely loyal and loving to their pack, but that can easily translate to reactivity and resource guarding if they aren't socialized properly. Also, they're pullers and chasers if not properly leash trained. You have to learn how to snap and maintain their focus on you through positive reinforcement and games. Even the show lines still have a working dog soul within them. Have to keep them busy, or they will find their own jobs

Grew up around these breeds and their mixes, definitely true. Probably the best part about rotties and rott mixes is the goofy sounds they make. Just friendly growling constantly. Pet them? Growling. I absolutely love german shepherds. My aunt and her family used to have one who lived to 14. I remember being scared of him when I was little because well, due to him being a german shepherd, he was big. Then, when I was around 8, I realized that he will not hurt me, and we became best buddies. We played and rolled around on the ground whenever I went over to my aunt's house. I have one distinct memory of us having corndogs in their garden, and my younger cousin and I sneaking him pieces of it under the table. He was a great dog. I miss him

From the age of 2, My family owned a purebred, European German Shepherd and he was my bestest friend growing up. He was really protective of me and my twin brother, yet he was a big goofball at the same time. When I mean protective, I mean that my mother and father couldn’t put a hand on us (as pretend of course) without him growled and moving their hands away gently with his mouth. He sadly passed at the age of 4 because a neighbor that hated us decided to poison the precious dog. They are such good dogs and I hope to get another one in the future when I’m living a stable enough life for one as at times they can be difficult to care for. One of the best family dogs ever in my opinion.

It's true that Rottweilers can make great family dogs. My Ex-inlaws raised them in the Fredericksburg Va area years ago. because they can absolutely kill you haha So, they actually use to be police dogs but because they are so smart they are also emotional. They would get angry at the person attacking their police partner and wouldn't let go. Rottweilers have an extremely high pain tolerance, and so one they attack its hard to get them off if they're emotional. I'd say that's why it's just because they absolutely can do damage. It's an advantage if you own them. They have great eye fear factor. If you're a woman walking your dog in a neighborhood, no one will approach, but they'll also be a comfort dog once inside the house.

Oh wow, my favourite dog was a GS x Rottie and we also had a Golden Retriver x Lab. I highly agree with this vid. However I'm sad that I find it hard to find cross (GS/Rot) these days and you get a beautiful, weightier GS looking dog with all the good qualities of both breeds. Absolute sweethearts who make you feel safe but are cuddly and smart.

Totally agree on the rotts and shepards. We’ve had both with young children in the house . Those Rotts grew up with the kids and where very watchful . Had both Rotts for 14 years and they were just great.

The best dog I ever had was a German shepherd/Rottweiler mix. Loving, super smart, accepting, protective, great with kids, oh, she was wonderful! She did have a little bit of a stubborn streak, but I worked with her every day from when she was a puppy, and trained that out of her.

I’d say I recommend American bulldogs. I’ve had 2 before, and they were both so sweet and gentle. However, the males can get some leg issues tho, so what I really recommend is to “adopt, not shop”

I have an Old English Sheepdog/Bernese Mountain Dog cross. He is one of the smartest, most well behaved, most gentle dogs I have ever had. And he is really funny, goofy and vocal (not barking, he tries to talk, it's the OE Sheepdog in him). He is incredibly gentle and careful with my toddler and baby. Always looking out for them, checking on them if they cry. Always coming to their bedroom during story time for goodnight hugs and kisses. He even lets them play with his paws, nose and tail. He has always known the difference between their toys and his and never takes or chews their toys. In fact, they often exchange toys out of kindness, and he still never chews theirs. He seems to have a human type of common sense. I've never had to teach him these things, he just picks up on it. When we go to the dog park he never fights but always stands his ground. I never worry if he disappears because he never stays away from his family for long and always keeps an eye on us. He is confident but not aggressive. He always guards the children and redirects dogs he is unsure of. He's fast, strong, very very agile and about 100 lbs of lean muscle. He has a scary deep bark that makes you jump and has a good eye for strangers out front of the house, but doesn't bark at the neighbors or their children. He also has 15 lbs of fur that acts as a sort of forcefield, other dogs try to bite him and they only get a mouthful of fur. Not to mention his chocolate black and white coat of 8-10 inch long fur constantly gets him compliments and pets from strangers. Oh and he's a perfect winter dog. He prefers to be outside in the winter, the colder the better. He will go lay in the snow in -30 weather for an hour just to relax. He's so well behaved that we just open the front door and he'll just casually trot out to the car and wait instead of running off to see the neighbor or a hare (Alberta, Canada, hares/rabbits everywhere, even in cities). I couldn't praise this good boy enough. He isn't fixed and I'm so glad because I want my future generations and his future generations to grow together for centuries to come. His name is Wallace. Nicknames:. Wally, Walls, Waldo, Walton, Sir Wallace The First, Walla-walla-bingbang, Wally Wonka, Wall & Oates, Walsey. Any word, phrase, or title you can sneak Wall into becomes his nickname. And he responds to them all. Yes, I have the best boy in the world! And to think, he was the last one left in the litter because his pattern is asymmetrical, which actually makes him even more handsome. They all missed out on the best dog in existence because they judged the book by it's cover.

@@suzymanville232 Everyone always thinks my guy is a Bernadoodle or Sheepadoodle. His hair type is somewhere between both of those mixes. Doodles always have a curl to their hair. Wally's is long, wavy, and very full and bouncy. I wish I could show you. You'd love him.

I love your channel I was raised by a woman who bred Alsatians and she only did about 10 animals a year. I’ve always been around very big dogs. I’m gonna start a nonprofit dog shelter just for the very big dogs because no one‘s gonna walk a dog into a shelter that’s 150 pounds and expect this dog to be rehomed because the entire staff is going to be terrified of this big animal. I currently have two Tibetan mastiffs. I’m getting one more next week. The first one is one I got from a kill shelter down in the Carolinas by mistake and the other two were directed to me by my longtime friend and veterinarian. This type of dog is very challenging. Very headstrong. They need a confident, firm hand. I don’t believe in ever striking a dog I believe in consistency rewarding for a good behavior, correct and bad behavior. And when you live near as many as 100 coyotes, they’re pretty good animals to have around the property again I love your channel. Keep up the great work.

I got extremely lucky, I found my German shepherd at a shelter when she was 2, but I drove three hours there and back to go get her. She’s pure bred, all white coat, and an amazing dog. The owner was some rich dude known in that area who went to prison for domestic violence and my family was matched with Beya 🥰 I love her so much. She’s a working line, so a LOT of energy, but very sweet and loving.
