Great tips for the reasons you stated. Surfskating is great for us older folks. I get the benefit of riding while keeping it low impact.

I'll add a 4th - don't lose focus until you are off the board. I recently had a fantastic session (practicing cutbacks, went really good) and I was about to go home and on the last couple of meters to get my backback (while going slow and straight) my wheel got locked in a crack and I was launched forward. Because my head was already at home I didn't keep a proper focus and stance (had my knees straight) and fell right on my arm instead of rolling. Even though fully padded I broke my collarbone, needed surgery and need to put my board down for 6 weeks. Just wanted to share this so no one else gets hurt because their thoughts drift off 😅

I agree that has happened to me with my surf skate from Carver going slow or relaxing looking around cracks rocks and he kind of debris and you get locked up and go down. I got banged up didn’t break anything a few times the last time I hit my head. Two areas where I made some modifications to the board and I haven’t gone down like that at all and that is not using too soft of a bushing where the front truck can jackknife second thing is buying Steve’s surf skate love 78 mm wheels !! They roll over anything ! I got rid of the black carver wheels . And I’m just using the stock carver bushings in my CX trucks. I’m not sure if you have a carver or not know what I’m talking about and so far so good. I don’t fall down and try to pay very close attention to my terrain and speed.

@shirtlessGraveler305 thanks for the tips! I wouldn't have thought about the bushings. My wheels are 65mm 82a, my board is a Cutback Surfskates Colorwave (local Polish brand), and they use their own trucks with 82a bushings. I am literally just waiting for my Waterborne adapter to clear customs and will be putting that in with some 70mm 78a wheels. But won't be able to test them till late February unfortunately 🤪

Great basic advice, especially regarding safety gear. RipClip also have a pad to protect your tailbone.
