There's always been that talking point of him dying and her surviving and the old 'there was room on the raft for both', saying there was backlash doesnt have to mean people hated it, just that one particular part received backlash. Ever seen Bill Burr's 'Titanic is a horror movie' bit? I enjoyed the movie, but a couple of parts bothered me, and others. And I'm not 25, I saw it in the theater when it came out.

Regarding Ghost in the Shell. I've lived in Japan for 16 years and I act in Japanese movies and commercials here and know lots of Japanese directors. When I ask my directors about Ghost in the shell they all say the same thing. Something always along the lines of "The character is a cyborg not Asian. Cyborgs don't have race so any person can play it." And they don't understand why Americans (typically white Americans) get all pissed off when a white character plays an Asian character in the first place. They care more about if the character is played well.
@Mortal209
@Mortal209 7 сағат бұрын
I've been saying that since the movie was set to release. I told people time and time again, THE CHARACTER ISN'T ASIAN BUT A SHELL AKA ROBOT. The people who got pissed off never actually watched the anime or read the manga, the character is portrayed as a WHITE Shell with an Asian GHOST inside of it.

Fate the Winx Saga is still the worse live action adaptation of a cartoon. At least the movie TRIED to look like the cartoon with the theme song, the music in general, the set design, the costume design and even the CGI didn't look bad. The show was such a global phenomenon that even people who don't respect animation at least know what the show is. Not enough people know what Winx Club is either because of generational divide or language barrier or just that it hasn't been on American television in a long time or just out of ignorance.

Movies like 'Joker' and 'Ghost in the shell' are prime examples of cases where the only ones upset were the media. It was only the media that was talking about potential mass killings for Joker, and it was only the media who was on a 'representation high' that was complaining about Scarlett Johansson playing the main roll in Ghost in the shell. Especially the last was around the same time where they were also complaining about non-deaf people playing deaf characters, and non-vision impaired people playing blind people.

-Since when did religion not cause backlash? -The Flash caused backlash? It failed just because of Ezra Miller? -Watching the Dragonball movie with the TeamFourStar riff track made it even better. -I thought Joker 2 was the backlash one. Something about Joker rubbed me the wrong way and I didn't want to watch it. -I like Life of Brian but then again I'm an atheist and don't really makes a fuss over religion. I heard that people in Norway had to go a neighboring country just to see Life of Brian. Could you imagine going to another country just to see a movie? I feel sorry for the people in Ireland who want to see this movie. They can't exactly go to another country that easily. The controversy continued into the 21st century? It's been over 20 years already. Let it go. -I stopped watching Twilight after the third movie. -Ghostbusters 2016 isn't that bad. -How the hell is blue a warm color? -The Hobbit caused backlash? There are three parts so they can make more money. -I did not see Titanic in theaters and I think a kid like me probably wouldn't like the film if I saw it back then. -I won't watch Avatar 3 if it's another bloated movie. I regret watching the sequel since it was OVER 3 HOURS LONG! -I wanted to watch The Interview because it was controversial. 26:02 That scene made me laugh.

There's backlash about not casting queer or disabled people for queer or disabled roles now because society has progressed and representation is important. Queer and disabled actors understand the nuances straight and able bodied/minded people don't about the roles so a film is going to be less insulting and more true if the casting team has gone to the effort of finding an actor that can adequately resonate with a role...

The Blake Lively movie is actually hilarious that it was advertised that way because she wouldn't have been able to do a press tour for the movie and no one would have been blindsided by the film. That's actually genius marketing because it's essentially blindsiding you by showing that people only care about abuse when it becomes a controversial topic, they wouldn't give 2 shits if the film was marketed truthfully because no one would care about another movie about abuse. I think there was so much backlash about The Last Temptation of Christ because so many Christians, due to their Christian training, were unable to look at its content critically. It was an imagination of Christ being tempted by Satan while dying on the cross. All that happened between the beginning and the end was a blip in Jesus’s head while hanging on the cross. And he chose to die, even though it was obvious he would have wanted that life which was imagined, he saw a higher purpose for himself. All the critics heard was, “he makes a home with Mary Magdalen instead of dying on the cross” which is the opposite of what happened.

I was a 5th grader when the mini-series Roots was shown. My teacher first recommended it to watch, then found out that there was a parental discretion warning on it. I believe this was mainly because it depicted whipping of a slave. The teacher then said that he wouldn't watch it himself because if it's not fit for children to watch, it's not fit for anyone. I say that if it's true to life it should be watched, even if disturbing. This applies to several on this list, but I'm thinking first of Cuties.

My pick goes to Nina (2016). The film is based on the life of singer Nina Simone and starred Zoe Saldana as the title character. The majority, if not the entirety of the backlash came from Saldana's portrayal of Nina due to the horrific makeup and prosthetics. Portraying a real life person like Nina Simone is different from portraying a fictional character like Gamora and Zoe was not the right actress to play Simone.

Backlash, in a way: Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Unleashed two and more decades of dirty secrets that put the title character's American actor's career on ice, which he murdered by allying with an alt-right opportunistic sociopath.

I hated Blonde so hard. It was so exploitative and insulting to Marilyn’s memory. I know it’s “fictional”, but it depicted real people. An imaginary throuple and a sexual assault by a US President is taking it way too far.

The film Submission by Theo van Gogh and Ayaan Hirsi Ali not being on this list is brutal, it should be #1 without question. It received a lot of backlash, but furthermore, the director theo van Gogh was shot and stabbed to death 3 months after it's release by a muslim extremist.
