Escape, Evade, Equalize, Eliminate. Get out, do something to make space to get out, get something between you and the attacker, Destroy them with sudden aggression. If any of the prior options in the priority becomes available, do those immediately.

Shifu Jasen: Thank you for all the free content. I am studying mostly twice a week, three times when most spiritually fit and once when least. I start out with self defence then OODA then Footwork. Then I review one more. I shadow box in my room with finger jab as jab, lead punch, snap kick to groin, knee kick, shovel hooks concentrating on soft targeting as best I can. My city is expensive so I am saving up for your online JKD courses. I will start with Footwork. Most expensive and most important. You are a great self-defence coach. Running away and calling the police works for me. I have added these to de escalation techniques I learned in the 90's. Thank you for all this free content. Great respects, William

William Barnes so glad to be able to help. And that sounds like good training that you’re doing on your own, so keep it up. Also, we’ll have a some new online courses coming up soon, God willing, that will really help your solo training. Anyway, thanks for the kind words and keep up the good work.

Ernst Stavro Blofeld that’s so great to hear. Glad the book has been a benefit to you...and hopefully your son too. Keep up the training and best of luck to you.

Very useful video for beginners! Back in the day, when I was a new teacher at a Tracy's Karate studio, I was sparring with another instructor. We had a clash, and I used a two finger flip strike that hit his eye. That ended the session. The next day the boss called me over and said I could hit the other instructors anywhere I wanted as long as the damage didn't show. That black eye was bad for business. Never happened again.

Good stuff. Practical if you can punch with power. Takes a long time to learn to deliver force in an efficient manner.

#1 is Run! Manage the distance manage the damage. If you want to learn self defense learn JiuJitsu. Punches are a great way to get hurt, so if you are caught in a spot where you must fight learning how to shut those down safely is the best defense. You start swinging without training and proper practice then you are likely to get knocked out or worse.

Great video, as usual. A better analogy (than a supermodel taking a shower lol) is that you don't need to be a world class formula 1 pilot to drive a car to the supermarket.

Lots of people tell you to put a tannis ball under your chin to keep head down. I use an empty pepsi bottle to put under chin when i practise on a bag

Wrong. You should lead with a jumping, spinning, inverted back kick.

What, no one is carping on about vertical fist, lead leg kicks, but what about bjj bro?
@JKDandWingChun4 жыл бұрын
R Sch I was waiting for someone to say something about the vertical fist. Lol.
@robertvondarth17304 жыл бұрын
Greenville Academy of Martial Arts It took me quite a while to get used to nearly vertical fists. I discovered my optimal fist position by observing where my shoulder joint angle is the most stable when performing heavy dumbbell bench press - not quite vertical, especially with an offset where the thumb side of the hand is against the inner plate. 1 Oclock 11 o’clock Interestingly, some old school pugilists reference the near vertical. “is the very common underestimation of boxing’s efficacy. People are always looking for things that are more complicated and forget or ignore the value of a good punch to the face…or body.” Buy Jason’s stuff y’all

Great point, but keep in mind that it's not always possible to run away against an attacker. You always need to be prepared to fight back, just in case.
