I have two hobs on my 20 gallon rimless, each hob is 200 gallons per hour so they are turning over the water 20 times an hour... hopefully this is sufficient for now, until I get a larger AIO

When it comes to filtration it really hasn't changed just the housing of it has changed. The same things that happened in a canister filter or a hang on the back filter are the same things that actually happen in a sump

thank you so much for your videos! they are really of good help to me in this moment that Im starting into this hobby with a 48 gallon tank with a 27 gall sump, ¿what kind of skimmer would you suggest for this aquarium size?

My first reef tank was an AIO system, and I was really happy with it. Then I got infected by the litre-disease as we call it here, and bought a Red Sea XL525 tank with a sump in the cabinet. Think of all that equipment i could fit in the sump! I had the Red Sea for about 3 years without really enjoying it. I'm now back to two AIO tanks, and am really enjoying those tanks, and seeing extreme SPS growth in the mixed reef. I will not be going back to a sumped tank in the foreseeable future!

What do you enjoy about an AIO that you didn’t like about a sump system? Will help first timers like me who are in the research phase! Thank you!

I have a hydor cannister. 🤔 but at what point does a skimmer become necessary?

do you rinse off the mechanical filters, or just toss them and put in a new one?

What are your thoughts on submersible filters, such as the Marineland Magnum. I have one that is in a fresh water tank and creates great flow, but will it work for saltwater?

Only expensive part imo is the fish.

Buy an all in one and if you want to do corals, stick with softies. It will cost around 300 hundred, plus the rock, sand, heater and fish.. That's how I started out. But watch out, the hobby is addicting. That's when you start spending the money. Next thing you know, you pimp up that nano and you have a 4000 thousand dollar system

Will a overhead wet and dry system work for a marine tank?
@BulkReefSupply3 жыл бұрын
They used to be popular in the 90's and early 2000's, but have fallen out of favor. One of the big challenges with them is that if you have a power outage and your media dries up, much of your biological filter will get killed off and you can have ammonia issues when the tank is running again.

What bio media can in put in my small hob filter any suggestion?
@swamppnus3 жыл бұрын
Buy those bio blocks or balls from Amazon. Super porous

I keep being confused by all the FW aquarists talking about cannister filters, meanwhile I find sumps simpler to build (from baffles siliconed into a tank to just some PVC) and generally fairly affordable with a ton of control over usage.

OK, I'm gonna date myself I fear... but back when I was into SW aquariums the conventional wisdom was "you must use a sub-sand" method, with coral sand. Has this fallen out of favor ?

Actually in freshwater the recommended turnover is 10 times the aquarium volume, i have 3 canisters on my 200g discus tank and the turnover is like 8 times tank volume

And nobody makes video albout it an what equipment is bether than other in lifetime because a better ceiling. This is maybe a tip for you to make a new video?

I had an AIO tank once. Looked great, horrible to clean once you've placed it along a wall. Sump is the way to go

When it comes to my filtration, biological and mechanical are my best friends. I just upgraded my overhead filter box to be bigger to hold more media, basically acting as a sump. Whenever I add more fish, I add a cap full of bacteria for every two to three fish to increase the population of beneficial bacteria.
@MrDon9673 жыл бұрын
not really true about the flow part for canister filters, you didn't mention that in the hob which most will only do 3x per hr and same for the AIO. my fluval fx6 for my 120g does 7.5x per hour that can't be considered lack of flow
@MrDon9673 жыл бұрын
if plumbing is the issue use a black background fairly cheap even cheaper if you don't mind painting the back now you won't see any thing thru it that is black
