I have read that anything up to 500kg, air freight is cheaper than sea freight, is this correct?

Yes and No. All depends on between which 2 countries and the direction of flight. One must also take into account seasonality. But your mentioned theory can more often be true which is due to that with Sea freight LCL there are minimums applicable based on Cubic meter and weight of the cargo. Long story short it is always wise to check both pricing options. And any reliable service provide will advise you on which method is best. Most often than not needless to say that should pricing be similar choosing AIR is always the right decision given the time saving nature of the AIR freight.
