GadesGades We had a guy we recruited just to pinch run. Never played baseball but was unbelievably fast. He could back pedal faster than I could run forward and I’m pretty fast myself. Truth is he had trouble stealing bases. Couldn’t read a pitcher. Never got a good jump. Picked off sometimes. Got thrown out a lot. There’s more to stealing bases than just being fast. I would’ve never believed it if I hadn’t seen it for myself.

SMS Mastr Well I was playing not coaching so not sure what all the coaching staff did with him on the side. We were nationally ranked at the time. Good coaching staff. The guy just had no experience. There’s no substitute for that. Had to teach him about bauks and what’s legal for pitchers to do. The rest of us had played since we were kids. I bet with time he could’ve figured it out. He really was fast as hell. Only had him for one season though.
