My dream is to make little video game consoles, load em up with indie games, and give them away. I wonder if I could use these 🤔 the eventual goal is to write games for them too

Depending on the quality of the game it is possible. You should look into retro pie and if you can write games that an emulator can play than absolutely

Thank you so much for giving some ideas. I've been in IT for decades and know the MS track very well and am fully aware that I must learn Linux to further my career. Only looking from the outside I think I'd reorganize the order based on prerequisite knowledge. Your final two projects are exceptional but I’d reorganize the others accordingly and included why: 1. Retro (only OS knowledge) 2. PiHole (OS knowledge add Networking fundamentals) best part…it's FUNCTIONAL! 3. Control ws2812b LED string (circuit control w hardware, OS knowledge, and programming) 4. Web Server (OS knowledge, Networking, Web server/ programming) 5. Magic Mirror (OS knowledge, Networking, Web server/ programming) Thanks again for the excellent list. I may update when I finish…or from the hospital. 😁

I'd like to do a few of these projects with one Raspberry Pi. Specifically the led lights, Pi Hole, and a NAS. Are there any potential problems with things like competing OS requirements, horsepower, etc. in doing something like this?
@tyandgigbuilds88363 жыл бұрын
These all seem pretty non intensive, but I imagine if they peaked at the same time they could corrupt/ruin the OS. So I'd suggest doing them separate if you could, the clock speed isn't that high on the pi, so it might get pretty slow, you'd have to test out each one and their I/O, CPU, and memory consumption separately, then overlay them together to see how hot your pi would be running
@dsthedev31792 жыл бұрын
One of my first projects was a Pi-Hole & NAS both on one device. It was fun and neat to have them combined, but it's not practical if you use the NAS regularly. Basically what happens is the NAS software takes priority of the hard drives IO process, and the Pi-Hole needs IO to read lists and do its own operations to handle network requests. So if you use the internet and the NAS simultaneously (ie all the time for me!), the raspberry pi throttles your network and can basically halt your internet connection entirely while transferring or just reading a few too many files off the NAS. And that is all because the Pi Hole is the gatekeeper for all internet requests. If anybody wants to try this, definitely use 2 pi's. I ran a pi with Pi-Hole and another for an OpenMediaVault NAS for about a year and it was a great little setup. Completely changed how I looked at my home network and storage environment. Eventually this lead to me getting a mini PC for the NAS for improved IO speeds and kept the Pi-Hole on a Pi because it doesn't need much to keep running 24/7. Great way to control your internet and keep a central storage place for all your digital media files. I highly recommend anybody that sees this message to try this out if you're thinking about it. It also provides you with some VERY valuable information about what's happening under the hood while you browse the web!

I've stopped PC gaming (as I now have 2 jobs and plan on proposing to my gf, so I hardly have much free time) and with the small places we can afford atm, we most likely won't have room for my desk + PC so I'm looking to sell it. Anyway, I've never used a Raspberry Pi before, but once I heard it can be used for retro gaming it got my attention (for example right now, I wanna replay the old GBA Metroid games, but Nintendo won't port them to the Switch for whatever reason). So are you telling me this little thing can play old school emulator games?? Sorry for the long and drawn out question, but I felt it needed context.

Please cut down on your intro. Taking almost half the time leading up to your topic seems way too long. I'm guessing you probably did it to increase your profit by making the video long but maybe you can just elaborate more about each projects rather than a 4:17 into on a 9:26 video. Or if you can time stamp your videos, this would be fine as well.

Haven’t dabbled in ML much but I would assume it would be too intensive for really large ML projects/models given its limited GPU. Probably fine to do small projects/models like face recognition on camera (have seen a few projects do that). If you are trying to learn ML it would still be a good start if it’s all you have

I have a desire to learn how I can monitor and log data into a desktop computer from an appliance like an AC unit. Generally conditions like voltage present and being able to log the on off times remotely from a desktop 100 feet away from any of these devices. I would like the radio frequency options so that they’re not hardwired. So essentially I would like to hook up some device to my outside air conditioner where I can log on my desktop the times when the compressor turns on and when it turns off. Is this some sort of raspberry pi solution with radio frequency receivers and transmitters? Some sort of device that detects when a voltage is present or not sort of thing and then transmits that state to the desktop application or file I really have no idea. I’m totally mechanically confident but the electronics behind radio frequencies and DYI electronics is totally new to me. Any suggestion or solutions appreciated!

It's not that simple. Like he said, the Raspberry Pi is linux based, it's not really made to be used with Windows. There is a "Windows lite" version that does work on the pi, but it's not going to be your normal Windows experience
@tyandgigbuilds88363 жыл бұрын
Eww windows? How do you look yourself in the mirror everyday? Lol jk, but the point I’m trying to get across is 99% of the time you won’t be running windows or a fork of it on the pi because that defeats the purpose of learning on the pi if that’s what you came here to do
