Thanks for the tips! I'm currently a Student Teacher in a Third Grade Class in the USA. I recently found your channel and have been trying to learn all I can to be the best teacher I can be. I also have been learning alot from watching my mentor teacher manage defiant behavior. Thomas Aquinas the 13th Century Italian Monk wrote that the 4 things that motivate people are Wealth, Pleasure, Power, and Honor, so when a student misbehaves I try to figure out which of those things I can give them to best motivate them to behave appropriately. But I agree that relationships and procedures and the foundation of classroom management. I know my first year teaching it will be tough to find the balance of connecting with the students while also being firm on procedures.

Hey Jake! Thanks so much for being here :) I loved reading your comment - especially about Thomas Aquinas' motivating things. Relationships will always be the first thing to focus on - it's what gets us 'in the door' with each student. Establishing a relationship will teach us what motivates them

Hi, thanks for the great video. Can you also discuss how a substitute teacher can use behavior classroom management? Many teachers don't leave helpful tips in their sub plans. Subs don't know what they're walking into. Thank you.
