@@waldowsxxghostxx8577I thought about doing that but it makes zero sense when a frameset is £800, but a full Roscoe 7 is only £1100... no way you could build the equivalent for £300 more, try double or triple that for the same parts! I bought the bike swapped out some parts and kept others as spares for when something breaks or can swap out when a part needs servicing or even if I want to sell the bike later I can keep my trick bits, Fox float, Sram GX, Hope tech 4's etc and then put back on the old unused parts; so the bike looks and rides like new and get a better deal on the sale 🤷♂️

I just bought a Cube Aim Ex for like 600 euros. Alu frame, 29inch wheels, 160/160 hydraulic brakes, 1x10 deore drivetrain with 11-46 cassette. The only thing what was annoying is the suntour coil fork so I replaced it with a Manitou Markhor for another 250 euros. Now that is excellent and it's travel can be varied between 80-120mm. Using 120, the headtube angle becomes a bit slacker. Around 67.5... I like it ^^

I got the 22’ Xtrada 7 in XL (I’m 6’2” barefooted) in March and have put many miles on her. From the hills of Austin to the Pineywoods of East Texas all the way up to Slaughter Pen in Bentonville. It is an amazing hardtail. I did upgrade the bars, grips, pedals, dropper post & went tubeless Maxxis. It’s a great bike and has gone down some pretty knarley blacks. My boy got the teal/pink San Quentin last year and it’s amazing. The goal was a bike he could upgrade, and he’s gone all out on that over the last year and a half. The only original parts are the cranks, and wheels. I’m talking one up carbon bars, burgtec stem and spacers, xt brakes, 11 speed xt cassette, deore deraileur, slx shifter. Then a PNW loam dropper lever with matching grips. Cushcore inside maxxis minions and a rockshox recon fork. In hindsight the San Quentin 2 would have been better mainly because of the rear boost through axle, restricts the ability to upgrade wheels.

I had a Baldock Aluminum hard ass frame that was given me. I bought a Williams carbon stem and a Domino teflon saddle, a JackieoLantan derailer front and back with a 11 speed tapeless cassette, Amoon hubs on Hewlet AM-4R rims with Beaumont electrically charged, zero drag spokes and Dunlop radial ply sand tires. The crank set I chose was a Teknikal aluminum AR46Yhg with negative crank boost. Finally the cockpit was aerodynamically negative with Buffalo shifters and Doe skin hand grips. Later I installed a set of green Klaptrap disc brakes with a hydraulic overgrab system. I also bought Campibillo shoes, shorts, snazzy t shirt and racing vest, a Byrne Headman helmet, and Thornton and Eve leather like riding gloves. I just realized I now need the rack on the back of my car cos I don't live anywhere near a mountain trail.

I say air forks get too much credit over coil springs. They have 2 advantages. They are usually lighter (nobody talks about bike weight anymore), and they are easier to adjust spring rate. But once you adjust spring rate, most people leave it alone and change oil dampening. If you get the correct coil spring rate for your weight and type of riding, a coil spring with very little spring preload is very hard to beat for the forks action,---and it does not go flat. If you don't want to work on/adjust your forks for the best performance, then you pick the air fork. But if you do work on your suspension, there is no reason why a well set up coil spring fork (everything else being equal), will not have better action than air,---especially as the travel gets longer.

I am 6ft 6” and around 245 slimming down to 210 by end of summer. The 2008 Yeti 575 was a fun ride but just too small and there were other bikes that were 29rs but again, way overpriced. Your collection seems to be around the gravity riders who want to hit the jumps, do some drops, pull a manny etc. We all have your styles of riding, this is what makes us such a unique group of people. Having lived in Bend-OR for several years and meeting a host of different riders it was awesome to see what they were all riding. Building up budget bikes has always been a challenge but it is worth spending the extra mulah for a solid ride.

@@TopToBottomMTB Of course additional chain rings bring more weight, but with a front derailleur you don't need a chain guide since the front derailleur also can do this job. I never dropped a chain on the front of my 2 x 9, while this happens from time to time on my 1 x 7 commuter hub motor E bike which has no chain guide, but I haven't found one yet fitting on a oval seat tube (integrated cable channel makes it oval) and a 44 teeth chain ring.

Not that it matters (because I already bought it), but your info for the Giant Talon 1 is incorrect. Only the small and extra smalls have 80mm fork travel. Hmm... I get the appeal, but that geometry just doesn't appeal to me. Those bikes will descend well but they won't be as agile or maneuverable, won't climb as well and will be less efficient in general, and handling will generally be worse on anything other than downhills. I think trail bikes in general have been getting too long, low, and slack over the years. That's not to say that really aggressive bikes don't have a place, I just don't like that every trail bike is following that trend. I personally prefer something a little bit more traditional in geometry. Bikes like the current generation of Giant Fathom, Specialized Fuse, and Salsa Timberjack along with many trail bikes from the late 2010s really appeal to me. I have a 2022 Diamondback Sync'r and that bike feels just right.

I’m a old f??cker, 78 to be exact, I’ve been riding since the eighties, in the nineties I bought a Moots YBb, a hell of a bike, but age and cancer is catching up on me and I thought I would give a more modern bike a chance, I bought a Xtrada 7 and rode it a little but there were a few things I did not like and decided to do some upgrades right away, the first thing was the rubbish plastic pedals that came with the bike, a trip to Amazon took care of that with some great cnc pedals for $30. The next was the Shimano brakes, they just don’t have the stopping power of my Moots V brakes, yes really, so on goes a set of Shimano Deore four pot calipers with metal pads. The levers as it came do not have servo wave action. I couldn’t find Shimano levers for love of money, but I snagged a set of used levers, M510’s I think for $50. The Xtrada comes with a 160mm front rotor so that’s swapped for a 180. Finally because of my age and bone cancer I’ve fitted a dropper seat post( why did I not put one on my Moots? ). I’m not sure of my total spend but since I got the Xtrada for $750 I think I’m around a $1000. If you see me riding in the Redding area make sure you say hi and give me a beer if you have one to spare. Barry

Don’t buy any voodoo, the cheap wheels are not meant for even a blue trail, broke mine after 2 ride. Has a specialized status now.

Under 1000 but they all cost 999$ That's not an "under" 1000$ list but your picks at 1000$.

Dude nice video but get your facts straight, voodoo bizango pro won the mbr's contest this year, not the vitus. I don't know why you haven't listed that bike here
@TopToBottomMTB2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The bizango IS in the video. Like I said… I’d love to work with voodoo on getting a bike out for review and then I can give you all my informed opinion on it.

@@TopToBottomMTB yeah but this is the ordinary bizango you have in your video, the bizango pro won the competition :)

Wheelbase is too short. But it is the best from this list. I just started looking at the Ribble HT. It makes other bikes look short in comparison. I'm not sponsored or anything I just really like the look of it and it's priced very well.

The bike is solid and my Ebike conversion went great. kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Very smooth ride at 30mph with no problems (135 miles ridden so far). The picture is a bit deceiving - there is WAY less space in the center of the frame than it shows. The suspension connection takes up the entire thing. So I needed to attach my battery on the bottom of the frame and my controller on the top. Instructions for assembly were lacking but honestly it wasn't too hard to figure out even though I have very little bike knowledge. Watched some youtube videos on adjusting the disk brakes but that was it. Still, I am loving it and very happy with the purchase.

PLEASE HELP!!! Any chance you'd be willing to help me make the right choice?? I'm new to MTB world but not new to riding. I'm torn between Polygon Xtrada 7 and Marin SQ1. I'm 6' 3" and 240lbs if that makes a difference

@@TopToBottomMTB no QR on Xtrada either? seems like another benefit? Am I wrong to think the X7 just has me "out of the box" goods vs SQ1 as well as still having potential for upgrades?

Your version of “budget” is still pretty steep for poor beginners. I know this wasn’t department store bikes. But what’s the one step up with potential to upgrade as your skill level grow.?
I shred on my GT aggressor. I smoke dentists on their 5k Yetis all day on my $500 rig. The bike don't make the rider.

@TopToBottomMTB Жыл бұрын
Rockhopper expert 29 used to retail for $1400 and didn’t make the sub $1000 limit for this video… keep in mind that this video is a year old now and Specialized has since lowered all their prices because they weren’t selling. Good score on your new bike! Thanks for commenting!🤜🏼🤛🏼
