We have a cultivar of king rows called Ali’i grass. We’ve been growing it in Hawaii for many many years, and I’ve had great success as a cattle feed, and also as a Feedstock for methane generation.

Thanks for creating and putting out this content in a approachable way. If I was looking to get some hands on experience working on a farm in Jamaica, where could I look?

Hi Khalil, is there any chance of getting the Pakchong 1 ( Super Napier) imported into Jamaica? Also, I have been researching the Mulatto 11 and we ould like to learn a bit more about the diseases that affect it in Jamaica.

Hi Khalil, thank you for information. We planted king grass recently and planted flat 3-5 nodules and covered with soil. We had to plant deeper than just covering as the heavy rain would have washed off exposing the new planted stems. Majority we planted up to 3 inches deep which were fine, but some lower rotted. Next time we plant we shall try two to three nodules at an angle of 45 degrees with one at surface level. Reason being, watering much easier, can see exactly where plant is, and the grass seems much stronger from nodule at ground level or just below. (when the nodule was higher than ground level, the shoot seemed weaker). We also planted in wider rows as in sweet potato spacing, and planted two aside. Seems ok, but wondering weather to try narrower rows like Irish and plant single. I have two questions to ask, not sure if I'm hearing right, do you suggest to cut around every sixty days, so six times a year? I am wondering in hot dry time, is this beneficial , and would you cut right down to ground level each time?
@farmerkhalil2 жыл бұрын
When I plant no deeper than 3in, light cover with soil, also I ensure the nodes are already shoot or has these small roots. So general older king grass is planted. Yes I love a cutting interval for king grass between 6 to 8wks.
