Probably the best universal compromise for the compact monocular would be around 4-12x28, so 4-12 magnification range for a good compromise between low-light performance and a wide field of view for animal watching at 4x magnification coupled with the ability to boost it up to 12 magnification when the need arises for long-range scenery viewing or larger gun ranges/golfing.

The second review clearly showed 2 different models, as did the last one - a 10x and an 8x model, but the commentary doesn't mention this. None of the reviews really show what the view is through the monocular nor the difference between zoomed out and zoomed in. Bit disappointing really

Adam, EXACTLY. You can tell most of these reviews are marketing plants. They say nothing specific about the product. My favorite are the pop up monocular ads, in the beginning of the most popular one it mentions clearly viewing things up to 30 Miles away. 30 MILES. GET REAL dude.
