I use Milwaukee in my garage. Their subcompact M12 ratchet is amazing and fits where others can't. I use Makita for my 18v tools. They both have immense quality and variety in those segments.

I love all the fringe tools Ryobi has in its line. I like the power and ease of Milwaukee for standard tools, but Ryobi has things like a hot glue gun and cordless sprayer. Even if Milwaukee had that stuff I wouldn’t want to spend the money they would want for them.

Agree with the order 👍 I've gone all in with Ryobi about 8 years ago and have built quite the collection through the years. So glad I landed on Ryobi when I was deciding which line to go with. The batteries and tools that came with my original Ryobi kit back then still work to this day. I love all of the crazy tool options they have I just wish I could afford one of every tool. I've even used Ryobi for my business in some very heavy applications. Some guys have gotten smart with me about how their Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, Hilti etc.. are real tools and Ryobi is inferior to which I say if you want to buy them for me by all means but for the price paid the Ryobi does what I need at a third of the cost. If it drives a screw and cuts a board who really cares what name is on the tool.

Vince you know that line of XTR Kobalt is way better than Ryobi and these other brands you put on here. I'm starting to see some biased opinions from Mr. Vince lol!!! Vince is a Home Depot guy for life lmfao!!! Still love ya Vince. The only down fall i see to the XTR Kobalt brand that i would give Ryobi props for would be the expansion of tools they've come out with in that brand but with that being said the Kobalt XTR series would out perform all these tool brands on this list hands down for just DIY or for everyday work. Put some respect on the Kobalt brand!!!

I use Ryobi for pro applications and have not been let down. Under Extreme conditions their brushless line has exceeded all my expectations. The scewgun especially, that thing is a beast. The abuse I've put it through and the fact that it still works...amazing. The sawzall is probably about to die though. But to be honest I've put that thing through hell :) I've recently purchased some Kobalt tools to add to my collection to address the lack of those particular tools in the Ryobi line and so far love them. I purchased the older gen Kobalt 1/2 in impact (not XTR) and love it. The thing will literally drive over 200 6" lags into 2 2x6s on 2 4ah batteries.

I'm a home DIYer and I switched over to DeWalt. Reason being is because it saves a lot of time and I feel allows me to do better work. I had a Ryrobi miter saw but it would always cut 1-2 degrees off so it made doing trim work a huge pain. I bought a DeWalt miter saw and cuts perfect so it saves not only my time but also reduces cost of having numerous bad cuts as a result of the inaccuracies of the Ryobi.

Kobalt XTR are indeed contractor grade. I've got 7 of them, one is used daily since they came out, and still preforms like new. The Skillsaw needs a little work, but otherwise they are amazing. The impact driver, and hammer drill are great. I strongly recommend the XTR line

DeWalt/Makita fan here. Hands down, Ryobi is amazing. They are outnumbering my DeWalt/Makita tool collection quickly (Bought 2x $99 Ryobi day special during this father's day sale). You know, DeWalt yellow used to meant "construction" (like yellow safety hat from 80s) but nowadays "Neon yellow = construction," right? Brilliant marketing by Ryobi, hat's off to that. Very eye-catching and easier to see/remember where my tools are. Also, Home Depot staff are much friendlier than the ones in Lowe's around my neighborhood. That add on to my preference on Ryobi vs. Kobalt factor. Great video VCG, happy father's day.

Just picked up the Ryobi six tool kit a week ago. Spent the first day sawing up trees and branches for a few hours with the reciprocating saw. I put a decent Bosch blade on it and it kicked ass all day on one battery. I didn’t miss corded Dewalt in the slightest. Picked up the tire inflator and portable stereo with 2 extra batteries too all for $350 out the door. You can’t beat that. Messed around a bit with the other tools just to try them out. I wouldn’t want them if I was a contractor but I’m pretty sure for just about anything I’ll be doing at my house big and small I think these will do the job just fine and there’s 20 other tools I want to add that won’t break the bank for the amount of time I’ll use them. Tell your crafty wife they have a cordless glue gun and watch her eyes light up and bask in the glorious moment where she actually wants you to go spend more money on tools. It’s great.

I admit I thought you were gonna say kobalt < ryobi < skil > hercules > hart. But, I own ryobi as my second line because they have everything and they work well. (directtools is invaluable) and love them so i agree. kobalt does have some quality tools and a good warranty tho. Skil is a good mid- point. Hard are just bad for the prices. Herculese are decent tools as long as u don't have an issue in the 91st day.

@stephaniemarkey9396
@stephaniemarkey9396 4 жыл бұрын
This order sounds about right. Hart definitely prices itself just a little too far outside its target demographic, maybe to cover initial launch expenses. It's essentially a palette swapped Ryobi design with a modern slide battery, which is actually kind of cool if you think about it. Gives TTI an opportunity to step out of the stem pack game in the disguise of another budget line. If the guts in those Hart tools ever matches Ryobi quality, having a less clunky battery is a big point in its favor. I have invested in three different lines: Ryobi One+ for affordable versatility (lighting, infrequently used tools, etc.), first gen Kobalt for heavy lifting, and most recently some Milwaukee M12 since Kobalt's 12 volt game is nonexistent. Both Ryobi and Kobalt have been very good to me and the people I am able to help with them.
@James-id5xq

I agree with the list 💯% Also may want to consider these..... Bauer - similar performance/quality to Hart at a much lower price. Good selection of tools if on tighter budget Rigid - probably more of a contractor grade but can find good deals if you watch this channel or holiday sales. Best warranty of any brand Milwaukee M12 - expensive batteries but you can get drill, impact, 2 batteries and charger now for $199 at Depot now. Probably the best line for automotive ratchet/Impact wrenches Hyper Tough - ok that was a joke

I don't think anybody can argue much with the rankings. I would say, though, that there is a big gap between 3 and 4. I have a brushless Skil drill-driver.and a brushed impact driver, along with the cordless screwdriver. No complaints at all. The screwdriver gets more use than anything. It's just so easy to grab it and a bit for around the house quick stuff. What I like most about it is that it's got a modern battery that holds a charge, it has an actual USB charger port, and it has a 5 year warranty! I can grab it and not have to find a battery, it's light, and I don't have to worry about over torquing a fastener.

Kobalt quality and performance at a very competitive price makes them the best in my opinion. Milwaukee and DeWalt have nothing up on Kobalt. I own some of both of them. I find myself reaching for the Kobalts when the going gets tough and I need just a little bit more power. Their 1/2" XTR impact is a beast! Although the M18 Milwaukee FUEL line is pretty awesome as well.

I just bought the ryobi 6 tool kit the other day, i had old B&D and porter cable drill drivers and the ni-cad batteries are just not holding enough charge anymore. I can drill about 2-5 holes in 2x4s with the B&D 24v drill my dad got in 2007, and about the same with each of the 9.6V porter cable batteries that my grandfather got in 2002. Even with the kit being brushed, i am fairly certain they'll be an upgrade over decade+ tools.

@VCG Construction. Thanks Vince for putting this video together. I agree with your assessment. Ryobi has been true to their owners going back to the 1990's about the battery platform. If you bought a Ryobi 18V tool back then with NiCad batteries and it still works you can still use it now but now with their LiIon batteries. What other tool company does that? If you really only want to own one battery platform, Ryobi is hard to beat in the DIY market. We'll see how the other companies you mentioned will do over time. FWIW I don't own any Ryobi tools. Hope you and your family stay safe and well. Wishing you and all the fathers a Happy Father's day.

Gotta have porter cable on this list. I’ve used it for years and had zero issues. Personally skil, mastercraft (Menards house brand), craftsman (haven’t tried the new ones yet but I’m pretty sure porter cable and dewalt had a baby together), and porter cable. Kobalt is a good nod to ur list. I’ve been thinking about switching to them based on power, cost, and the growing line.

What I find interesting is that your top five for beginners all come from two companies, with the exception of Hercules. So are the Craftsman and/or Porter Cable lines from Stanley not worthy of a mention, or are they in the next category up?

They need a good, in-store presence. 3) Ryobi is the King of DIY. It'll be hard to knock it off the throne. 4) HF totally screwed up the Hercules line from the start, and they're still screwing it up. 5) Kobalt XTR are completely bad-ass. Very impressive! EDIT: I'm surprised that you included Hart instead of Craftsman, which is a way better line in several ways.

Milwaukee M18 (will be getting some m12 eventually) for me. More than I need for what I’m usually doing, but I shop the deals and have never regretted paying a bit more to get such awesome tools. But if I hadn’t gone that route I would have gone with rigid (I know, technically also not a ‘homeowner” line) to save some money. Kobalt would have been the next choice, since I’ve had some issues in reliability with the Ryobi products I bought in the past.

I use a variety of tools. Ryobi is not a contractor grade so the quality is not there for mishaps such as drops from heights or other such aggressive usage and extreme conditions .... They are comfortable tools but not durable. They perform well enough and in some cases better than higher ender's. They have an awesome line of cordless tools and the price point is affordable for DIYers. It's definitely a line to invest in.

After ten years one of the batteries on my DeWalt drill died and after looking at the cost for new batteries (from a out of date system) I decided I may be better off with a new kit. I also need a circular saw. Now I don't do much and I have been very happy with my DeWalt drill but I can't justify the cost of batteries for what I need. Ryobi does have a lot more tools but I have to figure out if I might actually ever need those. Kobalt on the other hand, has cheaper batteries and it looks like they have a lot of the basic tools down. From what I understand Ryobi is owned by the same company that owns Milwaukee so I don't see them outgrowing the DIY market. With Kobalt I can see a scenario down the road where they up their tools enough to where they can raise their prices and shift from a DIY to a Pro market. For now though Kobalt is winning me over with that battery price and the quality they are supposed to have. Still looking around though.

Kobalt and Skil have my attention. Need to purchase some finishing tools. Brad Nailer and or Stapler. Don't want to add Ryobi to my Battery Platform.

Now you know my take and how I feel about Ryobi... I have said this many many many times in my comments and on my channel that in terms of price... Quality... Power... and value... there is not a better power tool brand on the market...dare I include even Milwaukee!!!...Not saying for a second that they are better overall than Milwaukee because I would be an idiot... what I'm saying is you get more than what you pay for with Ryobi... not to mention the sheer variety of tools they have is unmatched... I can't think of one thing around your home you wouldn't be able to get done with this lineup.... truly the best homeowner/DIYER brand on the planet... European or otherwise!!!

Personally, I buy red for the important tools, but have some green around also for the oddball tools that either Milwaukee doesn’t make or that I wouldn’t want to pay Milwaukee prices for, like the caulking gun, hot glue gun, rotary tool. By the way Vince, you guys or Kingofthecrease30 going to be checking out the new Ridgid subcompact tools? I swear, the impact driver looks like a witch doctor head shrunk it! Also, any chance you guys trying out MX FUEL?

Mastercraft and Maximum are exclusive to Canadian Tire up in Canada, I'm sure it's very difficult to get their tools to the US.

Wooohooo 5 out of 5!!!!! One question...why choose the XTR over the regular Kobalt line that has more tools and a cheaper price point for me as a DIYer is my first concern ??

That's a good question Rodney! I would say spending a little extra gets you the closest too pro quality tools on this list. Regular kobalt is also good quality.
