I almost feel kinda bad for Wesker after having gone through all the trouble of being tied to Scarface. It's similar to how Harvey Dent seeks to be cured but will always be brought back to villainy by "big bad two-face". After seeing your top 5 video on Scarface & the ventriloquist, I exactly thought of Two-Face and surprised no writer have ever written a rogues team-up story. It would be interesting and probably hilarious if Dent's two-sided coin ended up falling in Wesker's possession.

Great video , Rogues! To me the ventriloquist and Scarface are one best villains of Batman rogues gallery, and also one most tragic and sympatic (alongside Two Face and Mr Freeze). For me the best version of the adaptation of the character outside the comics is the Batman TAS version, with the episode double talk, been one the best one to focus on Arnold's mind and he dealing with the influence of Scarface (not to mention is one of the best reform villain episodes of the series, after Birds of Feather, with a surprising ending) It's shame that the duo is so underrated because I would love to see Arnold and Scarface appear in a Batman movie in the future. He could work in small-scale movie, kind like "Judge Dredd", in which the plot could involve Batman trying to stop a gang war between the Penguim and Scarface.

Great video as always. For a modern take on Arnold’s DID akin to the knightfall storyline, you should read “ I am suicide” from Batman rebirth by Tom King. Even though Arnold/Scarface isn’t the main antagonist, he plays a major supporting role, and it’s a creepy, sad and funny look into his mental state. Also, I think the reason that Arnold and Two-Face don’t interact is because their “ Tones” are different even though they share the same condition. With Arnold, sometimes you can laugh at his actions because they’re being carried out through a dummy; so that creates a disconnect of sorts. There is no disconnect with Harvey because he is committing all the heinous acts himself, even if his psyche is split. So that makes him more realistic and tragic. Honestly, if they were to interact, I could totally see Harvey killing Arnold immediately out of sheer annoyance over his “gimmick”. Harvey would probably see himself as the real deal as far as villains with DID go. Whereas he’d think Arnold was a poser due to the dummy.

@Psycopathicus5 жыл бұрын
One way of explaining it could be that the gallows-wood IS cursed, but by itself, it's simply a negative influence in whatever form it might take. Like, if someone had carved it into, say, a lamp, the light it shed would bring out everybody's worst side whenever it was turned on; if it was carved into a steering wheel, the car it was part of would constantly crash and cause horrible bloody accidents, etc. But it was carved into a dummy, and, as such, it simulates life - horrible, malign life - and exerts an influence on its user. Wesker genuinely DOES have a split personality which manifests his dark side, but it's egged on and made a million times worse by his association with Scarface. It unlocks his inner demons - he may provide Scarface's voice and personality, but the dummy itself provides the push over the edge into darkness. Perhaps some other ventriloquist could take the thing and give it a makeover, along with a whole new name and personality, but it'd still wind up forcing him to do horrible things somehow. Anyway, that's how I would explain it, if I had to. I do agree with you, though, that the Ventriloquist/Scarface relationship works best when it's ambiguous. Scarface COULD be alive - and that's creepy - or he could simply be a facet of Arnie's personality that constantly manifests itself - and that's also creepy. Or, as in my version, both.

"A Psycho Drama" is my favorite, too, and Knightfall would actually be my second favorite. I actually prefer "The Return of Scarface" over his first appearance, but I'm not sure how I'd rank those or "The Secret Origins of Scarface." My problem with "Secret Origins" is the same as yours: I like the style and the tone, and I do like the idea of Scarface possibly being haunted or possessed, but it also feels strange to me that Arnold becomes the Ventriloquist because of something another person makes, so to speak. If I were to venture out of mainstream comics, looking at adaptations, I think my favorite (or maybe second favorite; it's VERY closely tied with Psycho Drama) is one set in the TAS universe, entitled "Puppet Show." It's actually somewhat similar to Psycho Drama, but a bit shorter and slightly less horrific in tone, presumably given the continuity. Seriously, TAS comics seemed to have a lot of the best stories, some to compete with the mainstream...just like the show, I guess. XD
@goblintributemaker25395 жыл бұрын
You’re absolutely right about the TAS comics having the best stories, they also actually have the best Mr. Freeze story ever told in Batman Gotham Adventures#5, Batman Gotham Adventures#51, and Batman Adventures#15. I seriously prefer this trilogy to the Freeze trilogy in the actual show, it’s that good.

The TAS comics also had better Riddler stories. One story from batman Gotham sees Riddler escape and hide in the penthouse of the toy owner from Riddler Reform. He sends batman Riddler that reveal the crimes of other criminals, whike he just relaxes in luxury. Batman figured out where Riddler was though, thanks to his riddle obsession. The ending is very tragic and dark.
@goblintributemaker25395 жыл бұрын
@@tayojones9460 I have read that Riddler story and it's great! Scarecrow was also handled much better in the TAS comics. There was one story where Crane becomes a teacher again but he becomes pissed that so many of his students are illiterate so he takes away Gotham's ability to read. Another story also has him become a teacher again and has him befriend one of his students. But after he finds out that she was sexually abused he goes to take revenge on the person who did it to her. They're both great.

So Rogues. What is your favorite interpretation of The Ventriloquist and Scarface in media. I am honestly split between 2 versions with them being the version from TAS and The Batman For The Batman, Scarface has a new design which I much prefer over the other designs of him, Arnold Wesker seems to have a bit more of a character in this one that paints him in a more sympathetic role with him seeming more like a slave of scarface, always being afraid of him but with him also seemingly needing him as if his brain is addicted to the feeling of the disorder manifesting itself within the puppet, like a drug, to the point where everytime Arnold loses him, he goes through a mental breakdown. Now I'm not saying the TAS version of Wesker doesn't show a bit of that as well but it seems way more prominant and strong in The Batman with, to me, Arnold in TAS seeming more like just the way Scarface gets around, atleast compared to The Batman version. The show also provided its own interpretation of the possibility of what if his disorder manifested itself in another way inside of a another puppet as I kinda see as a opposite to how his disorder manifests itself within scarface with atleast that being how I interpret it. Now that idea may have been done bad in execution in my opinion but its still a very interesting idea. Now on the other hand for TAS, it obviously has the better characterization for Scarface and the better voice. So either way it's a win lose situation with if I choose TAS I'd be getting a better scarface and better voice but with The Batman I would be getting a better Wesker and a better Scarface design. As for the ideas they do with both Arnold's psychosis in both series, I think both series carry some interesting ideas like with his disorder manifesting itself in another way in The Batman and how Batman plays both personalities with Arnold's voice in TAS. As for the relationships in both shows, I have to admit it's better in TAS but the relationship in The Batman is also pretty damn good. Also I like how the episode of the batman that did the idea of his disorder manifesting itself in another puppet in another way is kind of a mix between the Ventriloquist Knightfall Story, your #1 spot as well as being a scarface origin story. But I dont know. What are your thoughts

Scarface and Ventrioquist are both amazing rogues of Batman. I think the concept of two people, one whose a puppeteer, and one whose a puppet gangster, is such an amazing combination. I feel really bad for Arnold Weskler, he has Scarface as a curse plauged on him, he just wants his career as a entertainer, and not a sudistic criminal that Scarface turned him to be. I hope in another comic they would have Arnold get rid of Scarface once and for all, and never to become a criminal, and Scarface would be in hell, because Arnold is just tired of Scarface's evil polts, schemes, and how he wants Arnold to be the dummy, and not himself. I still think Scarface and Ventriloquist are still an amazing Batman villain combination of good and evil. John Wagner created Judge Dredd while Alan Grant co-opted many other stories inclusive with their creation of Scarface & Ventriloquist. A twisted comic villain none the less.

The only V and S comic I've read is Shadow of the Bat 59 and 60 but it's a great one.

Why was the Ventriloquist sent to Blackgate instead of Arkham? I could actually believe it's because his case was _so_ over the top, even by Gotham standards, that no jury could believe anyone could be that crazy, and figured he must have been trying to plead insanity to avoid regular prison.

From what I have seen Scarface is like discount Twoface only both personalities do stuff at the same time instead of Twoface doin crime as Dent does stuff once in awhile This leads to an interesting dynamic plus some other differences like how Ventriloquist is more timid than Harvey and uhh... I still think Ventriloquist and Scarface are cool ok...

Officer O'Hara could that be a reference to the 1960s Batman show starring Adam West and Burt Ward I think so

I hope the Ventriloquist shows up in the mainline DC cinematic universe, though it's unlikely. Perhaps a fan film will do it.

I all ways believe that Scarface was a supernatural villain and came to the conclusion that what if the dummy really was possessed by multiple ex Cons
