FYI the 440 Cor-bon re-emerged as the 429 DE, obviously with the rights for the design belonging to Kahr (who now owns the Desert Eagle line of pistols.) They modified it ever so slightly to fix the reliability issues and it works quite well. Reloaders can easily make cases from 50AE and use jacketed projectiles.

In my humble opinion, The 45 GAP could've and still can become a hot caliber. The biggest problem I see is MAG capacity...The R&D department at GLOCK needs to develop a 15+1 Mag for it...and the 45 GAP will be rebranded and will fly off the shelves...just my humble Opinion...
@LordSluggo4 ай бұрын
Just based off of simply geometry, the thinner wall of a steel mag can *usually* create a dramatic increase in capacity compared to a thicker-walled polymer mag, but Glock will never do that

I disagree for one reason, cost/availability??? If you can get .45 ACP everywhere for decent price why get a weaker inferior version who’s only attribute is a shorter grip? It sounds cool it sounds niche though to me. What keeps it around is it’s legal in countries that ban “military calibers” such as .45 ACP. So it’s kinda got a place like 9x21 does versus 9x19. The problem is .45 gap is designed to mimic standard pressure .45 ACP so there’s no +P option which is much of the premium/self defense ammo. I do agree the increase magazine capacity would help. However even then I don’t know how that would work since the diameter is the same as .45 ACP? I think some people (myself among them) get a bit annoyed at all the cartridges taking up room that could scale the cost of more common cartridges down?

@danielcurtis1434 all the testing I've seen from shooters, not keyboard warriors, indicates 45 super brass is a selling gimmick. Contrary to popular belief Winchester plain old white box brass is some of the thicker brass. From people who hot rod 45acp, and my own experience, the 45acp is capable of much hotter loads than published. I also think stronger springs are a selling gimmick. Sure you soften the recoil but then batter your gun going back into battery. Just put a shock buffer in and your good for a steady diet of hotter than +p. If you stock gun is rated for +p.

I had to shift my grip to change mags. But I really liked the ballistics of the .45 ACP. A G37 gave me the max. rounds allowed in a Commiefornian mag., and I still got 10 rounds in a grip the same size as a G17. It was perfect. .45 Super is about as popular as it has ever been. Failure to grow does not mean a failure. I think .500 JRH is fine too. Last I heard Magnum Research was making BFRs in that chambering. Honestly, I have a .475 Linebaugh BFR and it is a handful. .500 JRH might be a little more and that's about all I think anyone would need or want if they tried it before buying. .500 S&W has proven to be quite dangerous in a double action pistol (for people with weak wrists). Unless you regularly run across polar bears or like to hunt moose with a pistol, I don't see a need to go that big. So in my opinion that leaves the small frame BFR as the biggest practical revolver. It's just an opinion but find something larger and ask yourself if it is practical or if it is just showing off? I'm secure enough that I'm not running out to get a .500 JRH.

@beardoe68744 ай бұрын
It's fine. The basic premise of this video is flawed, cartridges like .475 Linebaugh started as pistolsmith big bore projects and they basically stayed that way except for a few guns like Freedom Arms revolvers and the Magnum Research BFR. Not exactly big sellers. The market for these hand cannons is small because most people don't want a huge gun that recoils harder than a .44 Magnum and cartridges like .475 Linebaugh don't fit in standard .44 Magnum class revolver frames so there can't be many guns. That doesn't make it a failure, it makes it a niche market. Those are two very different things. I can't explain the popularity of the 500 S&W Magnum, it's silly but I guess S&W saw some popularity in big bores and wanted the title of World's Most Powerful Handgun again. They make nice revolvers so they grabbed some of the market that the less common/project big bores had. They also feature in a lot of Darwin Award videos with unintentional double taps that delete the shooter's head. I'll stick with my .475 Linebaugh BFR. You could say .480 Ruger has been a disappointment but I think that was because Ruger put it in the Redhawk instead of the Blackhawk. .45 Super falls in to this category, it was always a project gun thing and still is. It is probably more popular than .45 GAP which is pretty amazing because .45 GAP had Glock behind it. Starline still makes .45 Super brass which is big because .45 Super was always a hobbyist/handloader caliber.

The .45 GAP is still in use by Law Enforcement Agencies. The popularity of having a .45 caliber pistol in a Glock 26, 19 and 17 frame was what attracted so many to switch over to the .45 GAP. The reports of improved scores at the range over the other calibers was also another reason why it was chosen. The main issue was cost, just like the .357 Sig. I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase a Glock in .45 GAP.
