In India, BYD Seal (Premium) just launched in March 2024 and I booked mine back in May. Traded my 2018 BMW 530i and I couldn't be happier about It. It's literally a 2x upgrade for around 2/3rds the price. Adjusted for 5 years of inflation, 1/2 the price of the 530i. Wouldn't think twice about recommending it to anyone who's doubting and waiting for it. It's just phenomenal. We also have the Atto 3 for even half the price of Seal Dynamic (the lower end Seal).

@@senzubeanmedic the BYD Seal Premium is the same car I drive! I've had mine since April and I had exactly the same thoughts! My old car needed repairs so I rented a Mercedes C series for a few days before picking up my Seal Premium. The Seal just BLOWS the C series out of the water in everything metric. Such a good car for such a great price!

Next to Arrive in Australia are the Shark ute, followed by the Sealion 7. The Byd seagull will arrive in Australia sometime in 2025, along with the Yuan up and possibly the revised Tang.
@BeYonD-EV3 ай бұрын
I have heard the updated Tang will be released for RHD markets, didn't hear anything on the Yuan Up for RHD markets though. Very interesting, I wonder if it would replan the Atto3 or just come in underneath it? I have a feeling the new Song Pro will come in to replace the Atto3 when the time comes.

Doubt the Seagull will make it here. With Australians ever increasing appetite for larger SUVs and Utes, it will be a dud for BYD.

Great information thanks. Wondering if you could also include petrol tank size so that claims like 1200km range can be disected for actual litres used. Cheers
@BeYonD-EV3 ай бұрын
83L for the Bao 5. 1200km range is based on 125km EV only range and 1075 HEV range. battery is 31kWh Blade. The way the system works, you could do a lot better then that depending on where and how you are driving. These BYD PHEVs tend to track around the 5l/100km mark combined, thats about 1500km range with an 83L tank.

Love our Seal Performance. Honestly shocked at how good it really is for the price. Traded a ‘21 BMW G81 for it. Just as quick and quality is up there. Def have our eyes on a Sealion 7, with a deposit ready to be put down. And tossing up the Shark. BYD will bankrupt legacy automakers.

mate I have the Seal Premium and I feel exactly the same. But then you realise that cars we have, and how good they are already, are just the tip of the iceberg. They just get even better but we just haven't seen them yet!

I've seen loads of those tiny KIA Picanto cars on the road. I really think that BYD should start selling the Saegull in Australia. There would certainly be enough demand.

Seal is not yet released in our country. Released here are: Han, Tang, Atto 3, Dolphin, Sealion 6. Seagull is released here but not in the official dealer. We hope that the seal is also released here.

It's been released in some markets as the Dolphin Mini, but it hasn't been made in RHD. Given the low price on it I don't know if they would be keen on going to the effort to make a RHD version

You can't compare drag without including the frontal area, the coefficient is only part of the equation. I would really like to see a video where someone actually calculates the drag of modern evs (including both coefficient of frontal area and frontal area) so that we can see if the efficiency at high speed is due to motors, bearings and wheels/tyres, inverters or body shape. This would require investigative journalism (like TSLA Bjorn) and not just repeating the advertising tripe put out by the brands themselves. Another topic I would like to hear about is frameless doors, often they come with electric door handles so that the window can wind down before the door is opened or closed. This seems to me to be a very bad design choice, what happens when it is icy, or you have a power glitch, also is it really possible to make frameless doors as quiet as framed ones? And my other complaint about Tesla model y which I think is the best ev ever, is the glass roof. Seems like a bad idea in north Queensland. Are they heavier, less safe? Hopefully byd will include cooling between cells with the next gen blade batteries, they are supposed to release this August, also is it a change in chemistry which will reduce the charge cycles? If byd can come up with some weight savings like mega casting with a modern magnesium alloy, then they will have a real advantage.

Without doing a deep dive into it, the marketing figures is all we really have to go by when it comes to Cd and it's not in my expertise to conduct testing. But I agree, it would be good to see RL testing to confirm marketing figures. As for glass roofs, it's a cost saving and ease of manufacturing measure. It's much easier to maneuver robots to assemble parts into a casted frame without any large panels in the way, then just slap a glass panel over the top when it's done. It also means less steel, less roof insulation and less roof lining materal is needed. BYD does the same thing and I'm pretty sure they took that page from Tesla's book of manufacturing methods.

@@BeYonD-EV I'm not saying that the cd is inaccurate, measurement techniques will vary but this is insignificant. Cd is just completely unable to determine drag, because the frontal area is the most important component of drag. C = coefficient d= drag. We can use the cd given by manufacturers, but we need to multiply by frontal area to discuss drag and hence high speed efficiency, when comparing cars that are travelling at the same speed, in the same weather conditions. Cd without area tells us nothing about efficiency or drag. Think about the li mega cd =0.215, do you think it has less drag than a highland model 3 =0.219. ?
@BeYonD-EV3 ай бұрын
@@shiftyparadigm7049that is correct, the Cd is relative to the size of the vehicle. I admit, saying it produces 'less drag' in the video is inaccurate, I should have said produces 'less relative drag' to the other vehicles if they were the same size as the Song L
