Top 5 Christmas Markets of Switzerland

From late November till December, Switzerland hosts plenty of fantastic Christmas markets. The tradition of Christmas roots very deeply in the Swiss culture. However, among all these many markets around in Zürich, Basel, Einsiedeln, Stein am Rhein, Lucerne, Montreux, Bern, etc.: Which ones are the most beautiful Christmas markets of Switzerland? Einsiedeln - the most Christian Christmas market of Switzerland. The town of Einsiedeln is well-known for its large monastery and hosting the most beautiful church of Switzerland. The Christmas market is held only for a short time in the very beginning of December. The market concentrates around the square in front of the monastery, which provides a very authentic atmosphere. The Christmas market stretches into the old town and hosts various stalls with handmade souvenirs and foods.
Zürich - the most hip Christmas market of Switzerland. Zürich is very modern and this well reflects in its many Christmas markets. The markets are scattered throughout the city. Very important are the ones at the Bellevue and Zürich main station (Zürich HB). The market at the Bellevue is predominantly a foodie market, the one at the main station is rather traditional with many handicrafts. The Werdmühleplatz hosts the singing Christmas tree, a unique attraction! The Illuminarium is at the national museum and charms with its many lights and the light show.
Stein am Rhein - The fairytale town. The Märlistadt is not exactly a Christmas market but tries to balance between Christmas and fairytales. The opening is on December 1st and starts with a march of Trychler, a beautiful Swiss tradition. Enjoy the many performances and themes at the market and experience of the best winter fairytale / winter wonderland markets you could find in Switzerland.
Monreux - The most cheesy Christmas market. Montreux's Christmas market is by the lake promenade. Something very different and this makes the market stand out among the others! But the best of the best is the flying Santa Claus. This is what the market is the most known for! Enjoy the many stalls with finest Swiss handicraft. A perfect place to buy authentic souvenirs made with much love!
Basel - The most traditional Christmas Market. Basel's Christmas market is very traditional. The biggest attraction are though not the products the stalls are selling but rather the way the stalls have decorated themselves. Basel has very strict regulations and requires high efforts to produce an authentic christmassy atmosphere for everyone who was given the opportunity to have stall. Enjoy delicious glühwine (mulled wine), buying various handmade souvenirs and try seasonal delicassies. Among all markets, the one at Basel is the most beautiful one!

what amazing Video during night time, see all those cities from the Sky, wow, u did a great job, we visited only 3 cities out of 5, we are sure enjoyed the update from u in 2021. Great job, keep it on , you film quality even higher than most of TV show....

@@DjemoGraphic Hi, thanks for your quick response, we all loved travel to Swiss, my wife and I visited Swiss since 2016-2019, stayed 1 month during Dec, the last week of it, we went to Austria, Germany , France ,and Milan . For 4 years time, we gone thru East , North , West and Southern country beside Swiss, we are from Hong Kong, and must follow your advise to visit the rest of 2x Xmas town in sooner future. Glad to chat with you, also, as if one day you will introduce Northern Light, that's a good news for us to watch your Video ...Haha, even big challenge than you bring your DSLR to take video, u carry a lot to make the Video with low noise and stable, that's a hard works ,keep it on. Cheers .

@@lawelton7254 My pleasure. I hope you always had a great time in here. I miss Hong-Kong! It's my favourite city in Asia! I always had a great time there. I might be publishing a Hong-Kong Video next year. Though the recordings were from 2019. Regarding northern lights: I want to experience it once! Probably for that, I will be going to Norway. Iceland or Finland might be great for that too.

The ways of old world charms mixed with modern sparkles brings such joyful atmospheres! Churches are made to look with a better spirit by having outside spot lighting; yet, still could use outside Christmas decors like giant wreaths, garlands, and ribbons to bring out more festive joys. Did the inside of the churches get Christmas decors like nativity scenes, poinsetta plant arrangements, candles, garlands, etc? The church still looked like the occasion was any other day of the year and not Christmas. Some good ideas to sell at Christkindlmarkets: dining table holiday center pieces, wreaths, garlands, dining table cloth runners with matching napkins and plate mats; Christmas tree toppers such as angel dolls of angelic hair and spectacular robed gowns with music scrolls and/or music instruments...as well as ornaments like miniature music instruments, mini assembled scenes made from pieces of wood, cloth, plastic molds, and mini dolls. Other good items to sell would be cold weather plant decors (poinsettas, mini pines, chrysanthemums, etc.) that can grace the edges of doors, fireplaces, and staircases. Do you have any maple trees? If so, maple syrup (red, gold, bronze) would be good to have. Any of those old fashioned hour announcer clocks? Would be "sooooo gooooood" to smell the aroma of freshly made holiday bakery, good hot soups, hot cocoa, and hot meat casseroles like "chile" (ground beef with tomato puree sauce, onions, etc)!!! Always a treasure to have joyful spirits! A very Merry Christmas and may every New Year bring more wondrous joys!

Hi Teresa. Thank you very much for your nice comment! Yes, the churches are usually also decorated with Chritsmas trees. They are however only added after 1st of advent. When I entered Einsiedeln, there was no Christmas tree yet. Whenever I go for church mass, there is a christmas tree, on Christmas eve 24th and day 25th even with burning candles. I think you find pretty much everything on the markets. I just did not have the chance to film every single stall. There were just too many of them. I tried to film the most beautiful ones. Some of them were just WOW!
