Top 5 CRAZIEST Spider Finds!

I'm certainly no stranger to spiders, and here in Australia there are many incredible species to see, from huge, hairy huntsmen to inquisitive, intelligent jumping spiders, and truly bizarre bird-dropping spiders. But out of my countless run-ins with these eight-legged beasties, a few stand out, and in this video, I'll my recounting some of my most memorable spider encounters!

No but if that happened to me, I would not be nearly as composed! I think it's incredible how fast and stealth they move. It reminds me of the time I had a carpenter ant stuck in my pants after boarding the bus. It was right after school and my stop was one of the last ones! I didn't get to take them off until after I got home - getting bit all the while and when it finally got loose it was MAD. Left a nasty welt as many times as it bit me. lol Like you, I didn't feel it crawling up my legs until it bit me on my upper thigh. This Huntsman (and you) had far more chill.

I love your videos. I used to be highly arachnophobic myself, but somehow that fear became fascination and then affection. I still struggle with a bit of fear for certain species, such as the giant house spider which will almost always arrest me in my tracks (things are a bit tame here in Norway compared to Australia). I hope to overcome this completely, as I adore these creatures and abhor how maligned they are for absolutely no reason. I have been lucky enough to spend 2-3 weeks in Australia for work last year, and got to have some free time in/around Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Adelaide. I spent much of that free time walking around looking for spiders, as I have yet to see any live spider bigger than a giant house spider female. I am fascinated by huntsman spiders and they are highest on my list of what I dream to see in the flesh. Unfortunately I was there in July which I imagine is a dry time for spider spotting, even if the temperature often exceeded summer temperatures where I'm from. I saw a single jumping spider I've never seen before (along the North Head trail in Sydney), some absolutely massive golden orb weavers at a distance at the botanical garden, and that's all in terms of spiders. Thankfully there were a thousand other incredible things to make an impression in that beautiful, beautiful place.

Hey, somehow I missed this comment. Really appreciate everything you’ve said here, and props to you for overcoming your fear! Pity you weren’t able to see a huntsman while you were in Australia. From my experience, they’re not something you see all that often, especially during the day, unless you’re looking for them. Beneath the loose bark of eucalypts is a great place to search.

I just knew you were going to mention the Tiger huntsman! Its a spider I didnt know existed until I saw your video and it captivated me. Also never thought huntsmans could be so beautiful and cute looking. Some really amazing beauties you encountered! I hope one day you find your own tiger. Well done on getting the spider out of your pants in a discreet manner. I absolutely would have stripped right then and there 😅

I’m really enjoying these vids. I’m trying to not be so afraid of bugs. I’ve got a terrible fear of them to the point that i used to not be able to look at them (I’m even afraid of butterflies!). So I’ve been watching videos and reading abt them (usually with my eyes half open or closed lol) because i think learning abt something can help overcome a fear of it. I started with beekeeping and wasp videos and now i am onto spiders and centipedes. Vids like this that make spiders not so freaky and weird really help! I can now look at them and not immediately freak out so badly. While I won’t be touching or getting near them, i can better appreciate them (from afar!) and at least stay calm lol. Plus, I’d like to be able to have my son not be afraid of bugs by showing him that I’m not afraid! So vids like these will definitely be shown to him :). Now if only i could get over my fear of worms, slugs and snails🤦🏾‍♀️😭

Of all the members of the Tetrapulmonata the Serikodiastida (unranked Clade) Somehow Always manages To touch my soft spot I would go as far as to say my Affection for spiders and their prehistoric relatives Has the same energy as your affection with Myriapods Which really breaks my heart knowing that Chimerarachnida, ldmonarachne and Uraraneida (Just to name a few) Are sadly no longer with us But I can imagine how giddy we would be If Chimerarachne Was still here with us and the Crown group Araneae Considering how They possess a flagelliform telson on their opisthosoma Like The Uraraneida Which of course No spider alive today has this Maybe the closest Really out there would be the Uropygi But we somehow bring them back.I would love to have one of them as a pet Anyways Great video👍

Kleptoparasites. Smaller spiders like Argyrodes often live on the webs of larger spiders, and feed on leftover prey.

You lucky bugger!!! Getting to see a Portia in the flesh and in the wild!!! You are a lucky, lucky young man my friend! It is my personal belief that that species is simply the most intelligent land dwelling arthropod on this whole planet. Alas, I will never be so fortunate as you, I will never be able to visit Australia (airfare too expensive and too damn hot for me) and if I ever did I would never leave my air conditioned hotel room because big spiders, like Huntsmen, scare the bejeezus out of me!😂😂😂😂. I am still totally fascinated by spiders and love learning about them, I just don't want to be close to them, hold them or have them on me. Ever. I do not kill them anymore, instead I leave them alone if they are in their web, but if they are roaming around then I will get the small ones onto something and then dump them outside, but the big ones, dear god the big ones, I try to 'encourage' them to move outside under their own power by stamping on the floor not far from them. That way they will hopefully run in the opposite direction and away from me. Admittedly this does not always work the way I would like it to, so if it doesn't then I will get a container with a lid and after gathering as much courage as I can, I trap it in the container, put the lid on, run outside and throw container, spider and open lid into the garden, run back inside, slam and lock the door, run upstairs and jump into bed and under the covers until morning. I get up and go and retrieve the container once the sun is up, by which time the spider is gone and I have succeeded once more in not killing a large spider out of sheer terror.😊

If you want a laugh go research the Congolese legend of the J’ba Fofi. Locals and explorers alike claim critters the size of dogs and leg span around 5’. crawl around the darkest of Africas Jungles with deadly venom, webs the size of a 2 floor house, egg’s the size of garden peas. Could such a spider exist like the ones from Harry Potter???😂

@@mcleodclan Yeah that's it. Thanks. To stay alive (as a source of water our bodies likely are for them) it probably is crucial for us. Given they do not have a stinger like the one in TLOTR. But I've never seen a spider in nature with a stinger like that. Simply because that would be overkill and a useless waist of resources. Resources that are hard to come by in nature and are usualy not spoilled in any way. (We human's could learn a lot from mother nature but thats a different story) But I degress, Leash (check) Muzzle (check) Eehm nope still not gonna take it out for a walk. Feed it loads and loads of food before that walk. Spiders (like all predators) are NOT mindless killers but most will not pass on a free meal if they pass by one. Specialy spiders, (correct me if I'm wrong here @BugsandBiology ) they could wrap you up and hang you in their "pantry" for later. No, no no... sorry but a huge predator like that... I would live and let live but I'll never gonna take it out for a stroll like a dog. Call me a chicken. Sorry... Accidents happen sadly all the time but why ask or go look for it?? No not me. Ps, sorry if I went in there way to seriouse but my imagination took over...😋
