Great! I have an Econ bs with a minor in math, and have been looking into breaking into the field. This is great, thank you so much. I feel very competent in Excel, but have been teaching myself python and SQL as well. I just like learning, which is probably why I like stats/analysis in the first place. This has been very helpful, thank you. It gives me hope that someone will want to take a chance on me.

The Career Force thank you! Sounds like a great place to begin. I don’t think I’ll really start feeling confident in my self taught skills like python/SQL until I have an opportunity to really use them in the work force, and not just exercises in a course. This is my biggest hurdle when it comes to interviewing I think. Thank you again for all your great videos.

Thank you so much for this video. I am trying to transition from Digital Media to Data Analytics career path, while still staying within the industry. I really trying to break down my transition into steps and find the right platform to learn from. I think I have great communication and problem solving, and feel confident in learning software. I learn SQL and Python in codeacademy and really like the hands-on approach. is there a platform or the website you will recommend to learn statistics and math for data analytics with a similar approach or just a great website to learn from? And thank you again. Great content!

Thank you for the video. I've been a developer primarily in C++ for 20 years now and have BSc and MSc in CS. Since I have development experience, do you think MSc in Data Science or Data Analytics will be valuable by employers ? Will they see such a programme as enhancement to my development experience and as a good start for the DS field ? Or will they say that it's too late at my age and therefore compare me to much younger graduates in the DS field in which case they will expect me to take a pay cut ?

"Problem Solving" -> definitly the most important skill of all ! Nothings beat a genius co-worker that tells you in less than 5 seconds what you were searching for hours. IMHO, this Problem Solving skill is very rare to have ! By the way, I'm wondering if it is something that only very talented people has :/

Problem solving does seem surprisingly rare and it's a huge advantage if it comes naturally. The genius coworker is great (after you have a few minutes of being annoyed how quickly they solved your problem when it took you hours 🤦🏽)

In business Analytics, do you do a lot of writing?
@TheCareerForce
@TheCareerForce 5 жыл бұрын
There's some writing, but I wouldn't say it's a massive amount. Most companies either are heavy on PowerPoint slides or favor reports. Either way, written communications skills are certainly important but the overall volume of writing isn't much different than most other office jobs.

Thank you for the incisive response. I prefer less programming skills . Just SQL, tableau and excel. I have a background in accounting? What do you suggest.
@TheCareerForce
@TheCareerForce 5 жыл бұрын
Look for data reporting analyst jobs or data analyst jobs that don't mention programming. There will be plenty of them, but they're a little more difficult to find because they often share the "data analyst" title. With a background in account, you may also find business analyst or financial analyst jobs that fit very well with your skills. Many of these won't require programming skills.

I need to focus on widening my programming range. I am proficient in SQL and Python but feel like I really need to add SAS and R to be truly competitive in the Data Analysis field. What do you think Jen? Should I learn these as a preemptive measure? would love to hear your feedback! Thanks for these videos I've found them all insightful and helpful please keep em coming=]
@TheCareerForce
@TheCareerForce 5 жыл бұрын
Glad you're finding them useful! Learning new skills is always a plus. What kind of career goals do you have? If you'd like to eventually work for a consulting company, in medical areas, or at many of the large companies, then SAS is something you should definitely learn. More than just learning them, try to apply those skills (regardless of which language you learn it even with the SQL and Python you already know) to some sort of practical problem. This will really help you when you get into interviews. When I'm interviewing someone and they can't tell me what things they've done with a programming language, I'm always a bit hesitant whether they really know how to apply it.

@TheCareerForce
@TheCareerForce 4 жыл бұрын
This video should help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZW6ZH-pjJeehLc Neither role requires a masters degree. In cases where someone does have a masters, it would be typical for a business analyst to have an MBA and a data analyst to have a math/statistics/analytics/computer science degree.

Great question! It depends on the type of data analyst job that you want. Some will not require programming, but many jobs do require some programming skill (like SAS). The jobs that don't require programming skills may be called "reporting analyst" or "data reporting analyst". This video will help explain things more: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWKnd6pjm9KCZqM

Do you think you have to be very good at math for this career? Computers do most of the work these days.
@TheCareerForce
@TheCareerForce 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you do need to be good at math. You're right that computers can do a lot of the number crunching itself. The critical thing is to know what to ask the computer to do though. And knowing math also helps give a check on the results that you get and whether you gave good inputs and got a reasonable output. That's where being very knowledgeable at math is extremely important.

There was a time when SAS appeared invincible but now it's suffering the same fate like Dinasour. I mean it's enormous size and costs are gradually declining it's market share. Even IBM's Cognos no longer makes its presence heard. Whereas R and python are racing at much faster velocity and command 70% market share. With this speed one can easily anticipate what's in store for them.
