I used to wear Senate, 976, and Rise Above in high school. I've used Scribe grindplates and Pleasure Tools wheels. The brand I miss the most is Pawn. Pawn wristguards were so good. They didn't get in the way if you wanted to hand a rail but still protected your hands. "Pawn Wristguards. Like sunglasses. For your wrists!"

Its a shame because imo rollerblading is not documented very well much of it is only in the minds of people in the sport. The DVD era was massive but much of the uploads online are poor quality and there needs to be a revival of people that still hold those old tapes and DVD need to re upload in better quality for conservation reasons. Also i think rollerblading unlike skateboarding has been generally poorly documented in comparison, like you could go and look up many of the OG brands for skateboarding and there will be information out there like wiki pages and other sources where as rollerblading not so much info and info is hard to find especially going back to its roots/origin days. Even look at the X games Wikipedia page as an example if you know the impact of rollerblading and how it basically raised and dominated X games then the wiki page for it in comparison is underwhelming imo. if all those DVD creators/editors at the time knew how significant they were in documenting the sport and that they were on the cusp of the internet boom then it could be a lot more different today but most of them were just kids. I guess vibralux is a good example of conservation and preservation efforts of the sport but there was many more that could of done better in this regard, i guess hindsight is 20/20.
@jenkims1953
@jenkims1953 Жыл бұрын
Like another good example i can't even find after a quick search any wiki page talking about Roces Majestic which was like a big deal for its time. Just an example.

When we lose companies and info sources like daily bread or retailers shutting down something like Amall in the US and other areas its like a whole lot of information ceases with that companies departure sure they have all the info out there up until that point but its an avenue we lose in the space. Skate Companies closing down like Solomon or Xsjado or whoever is another hit etc because that is a whole lot of representation leaving at the same time.

If another video on this topic is made, FR needs to be front and center. They were the quintessential NYC inline skate brand back in the day. They represented NYC hard, and brought a much needed east coast underground aesthetic to rollerblading. Their wheels were iconic, and their soft goods were, too. One of their “Your Wheels Suck” t shirts even made an appearance in the movie _Half Baked!_ Plus, their team roster was stacked with legends. Also, it was quickly mentioned I. This video, but shedding more light on the clothing brand 976 would be much appreciated. I remember they crossed over from rollerblading into the mainstream (sort of), as I remember seeing ads for their clothing in non-skating-related magazines at the time. The same with Rise Above- another iconic clothing brand from the mid-to-late 90’s
