The creatures of DS3 really drive home the notion that its time to end this world. In DS 1 and 2 there were plenty of monsters but few were as horrifying (not talking in terms of difficulty more in terms of if you turned a corner and saw that thing in real life) as things running around by the time of DS3. The other entries you could accept some of the beasts are just animals or different kinds of people fighting to protect themselves but by DS3 everything is horrid and suffering for it. Like their world got Nuked and these are the cancer ridden, eradiated, survivors. They won't live full lives whether you kill them or not they are just running out the clock until cancer takes them.

More than it being linked to just Manus, I believe it is connected to Dark Souls's depiction of want. The head being replaced with a gaint hand, the teeth upon said hands and the holes in the three of them all heavily symbolize an unsatiable lust, the creature itself being quite chubby also further connects it with that (no im not fatphobic, it's not my fault this sort of symbolism has been around for a long while, and obviously Miyazaki didn't make this design to demonize and trash on bigger people). It is called the "Monstrosity of Sin" specifically the sins of gluttony and lust. You are right though that the teeth also link it to Manus and his obsession for reclaiming (again, an umbearable need to get something, though in his case it's not at all ill-hearted) the pendant he'd lost. The whole concept of want also connects this thing to one of Manus' fragments, Nashandra.

#5 are experiments where Pontiff Sulyvahn attempted to perfect turning humans into dragons, akin to Seath the Scaleless' work. #3 and #4 are both products of the Deep, a festering water somewhere within the world that is slowly rising to take over the land. #2 has some pretty heavily speculation about what created them, though they may be related to Manus of the Abyss and the Dark Soul itself. #1 is just maggots creating coalesced forms in some hollows, though because of their location they are probably also from the Deep.

humans in dark souls are cursed to be immortal and will eventually turn hollow and become what is essentially a zombie the corpse grubs feed on the insides of the undead and control the already mindless husks that are hollows. (you'll have to speculate on why they look semi-humanoid) the monstrosities of sin have an eyeball and hand motif similar to a boss from ds1 named Manus. it's possible they're descendants of him. the deep accursed barely has any lore past its name but the name gives us some points to guess. the "deep" part of the name is something vaguely brought up in specifically dark souls 3 having to do with aldritch whose "body" resided in the giant tomb inside the cathedral of the deep guarded by the deacons of the deep. it's possible they're humans that were cursed by the deacons or by Aldrich when he was resurrected as guardian beasts the sewer centipedes were most likely experiments done by pontiff sullyvahn the wretches are failed experiments by oceiros to recreate dragons as they've (mostly) all been killed after seath the scaleless sold them out to gwyn in exchange for knowledge and his own immortality. they were kept alive as laughingstock. and that's all of them o) you should try doing a lore playthrough it's a fascinating world

Fromsoft got told to make another Dark Souls so they just took left over ideas from Bloodborne and mashed it into another poison swamp filled "the flame is dying again" story. Lore wise there's even less about them then the usual vague item descriptions, either they are the result of the profaned flame, or the deep. There's not much info on what those are either.

@@Phantom17685 Sewer Centipede is a result of the Profane Flame or Chaos Flame. They are mostly found in the Profane Capital & only appear in the part of Irithyl that is directly connected to the Profane Capital.
