Note to Everyone: This is NOT Brazilian Samba. This is ballroom samba where it is watered down and fused with Europeans styles. Don't hate the dancers for they are just the dancers and these dances are choreographed for them majority of the time. Don't hate the video uploader because this is their opinion of what they like. Instead, compliment the dancers for their precision in technique. Instead, thank the uploader for sharing their opinion. If you can't do that then DON'T WATCH IT AND DON'T COMMENT ON THIS VIDEO. LEAVE and go watch something you WANT TO WATCH. DON'T waste your time watching this and then commenting something negative. You're not helping anyone with the negativity.

And you are right my friend, these dancers should leave samba for the ones who knows how to dance to it. These formicas and cia don't know even how to do the basic of samba, that's why they look like foxtroters or waltzers trying to move the hips like Brazilians - the outcome is something similar to a snake on fire. They lack ginga, molejo, bossa, and even when they do the maxixe steps, they do it so wrong that they look a nature aberration. Also their `europeanized` posture do not allow to explore poly rythmic structures that fit the african-matrix of samba music. In one word, they need to learn everything from the beggining, with a proper brazilian instructor, maybe studying some capoeira too. Later, maybe they can enter in the real samba world championship (with real qualified judges to avaliate samba musicality and movement) - "samba rio show" - and, who knows, they can improve and have a reasonable score...

dancetjoen How can Brazilians imitate something they created?
@lianacmartins9 жыл бұрын
dancetjoen Seriously? Samba de Gafieira was created in Brazil, in Rio. It's derived from Maxixe (aka the "brazilian tango").. just like the samba de breque and the samba-choro. Stop the hate...
@leandrovido9 жыл бұрын
dancetjoen A short history of samba: Samba is a brazilian rhythm music and a dance style. The dance came from maxixe that came from african dances (semba and lundu), habanera (cuban dance that also originated the tango) and polka (from Europe). In Brazil there are many variants of original dance, but the most traditional is the samba de gafieira. The samba danced in Europe and USA is from an european couple (Monsieur Pierre and Doris Lavelle) that never were in Brazil. Because of that brazilians say this is not samba. The samba de gafieira: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGK3q2afotyCm6s kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2G0qoJ5r9aWqNE kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJy7o5qBhrKgbM0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/foekn2qIbp2ripY kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKDQqoWXgbWbr6s kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaKwpnRrfMZ_bJY

dancetjoen I understand your preference to ballroom samba and your annoyance with brazilians that say this is not samba. But none brazilian recognizes this dance as true samba, because in nowhere on Brazil you will find a couple dancing like this. Sorry, but europeans and americans always were wrong about samba (included the music). Understand a thing, the samba danced in Brazil was developed since begins of 20 century, from maxixe. The international ballroom samba was developed by europeans since 50's, you can't say the first is a copy of the other. Both dances have their value, however the original samba is the brazilian samba. I respect your preference, but is sad for brazilian realize that our culture is unknown in the world. And stop with the offensive words, this wont help you to convince any one. I hope I have given you a little of another culture.

@yolis200710 жыл бұрын
Exactly! These are ballroom competition Samba.
@Liviahel10 жыл бұрын
Yoli Gonzalez well, brazilian ballroom competition Samba is a loooooooot different from this one, what bothers us is that americans call this one brazilian dance and most of the time they don't use original samba music.... but we don't dance this style here, watch Samba de Gafieira dance and you will se why we brazilians complain so much when we see american ballroom samba
@latinom.157410 жыл бұрын
Yoli Gonzalez dtrix10kc 1. If you are right, and this s just a sport, and the difference between the two is just about the names, then, why do most European ballroom schools that one can find in internet still tries to relate it to Brazil? Why they dont instead try to clarify to their students that they have something diametrically different, that it is not even fit to dance to samba music? This is not fishy enough for you? Seems that even Ballroom community do not like to recognize - as you do - that this is just a terminological issue. And why is that? Money maybe. The desire to sell cultures that they do not known a single thing, like a exotic piece of meat. 2. Names have a reason to exist, specially when it comes to cultural things. You do not confuse spanish with portuguese only because they share some latin traces. 3. Schools of ´ballroom samba´ sell this as a brazillian dance, but when challenged by brazilian documentation, testimonies, even visual reference, they do not have response but to say ' contradicting themselves ' that brazilians are ugly and dont know how to dance. Seems to me that this misrepresentation is hurting the most the very europeans and north americans, that, generation after generation are being fooled by this company, this busines. It is the europeans who are being denied real information and knowledge. A lot of talented young european dancers are being deprived of enrich their perspective and intelligence of dancing by limiting their artistic possibilities by a foreing name-concept (samba) that do not mean anything for them, since it is not part of their culture or experience in any way. So, this matter should be discussed, not only for correct a misrepresentation and attempt of colonization, but also for the safe of european young dancers that have the right of achieving their own artistic matureness with their own terminology, their own culture, and their own experience. Showing that what they are doing is not brazilian ' although it was remotely inflenced by old maxixe (extinct brazilian dance) would be a good beggining. What is preventing this to happen`? business reasons maybe?
@Liviahel10 жыл бұрын
shut up gringo, you know nothing about our culture, and for saying that gafieira is a bad imitation you show me you know nothing about dance, cause gafieira looks nothing like ballroom samba to be even compared as an imitation
@Liviahel10 жыл бұрын
primitive? bitch, you're just a troll, who's primitive here huh? If you still live in an universe where people, wherever they come from, have no culture, you're the primitive one. Culture is everything that represents people, whether you like it or not. You can call Gafieira ugly as you want, your primitive opinion is irrelevant, a real dancer or a dance fan know how to value dance in any of its form.

The last two couples danced to the real samba beat and they were my favs. The first ones danced to "Magalenha", one of my fav Brazilian music. Although I loved to watch them all dance to the samba beat, samba is not meant for couples, it is meant to dance solo, once a year, to celebrate carnival. Very few Brazilians know _samba de gafieira_, that is the samba version for couples.

If it makes people feel better maybe you could think of ballroom samba as a fusion dance, because really it is in a way. It's a fusion of European ballroom and Brazilian samba. Ballroom samba is not Brazilian samba, just like ballroom tango isn't Argentine tango and ballroom rhumba is not Cuban rumba. They've been influenced by those dances, but they're certainly not the same as those dances.
@latinom.157410 жыл бұрын
You are right, but It does not make people feel better. It is typical try to say that this is a "different samba" or a "different tango-rumba" right now, but the fact is that this dances are not just different - they are misrepresentations. A misrepresentation is different than a independent thing in many aspects. These ballroom dances are just misrepresentations that refuse to change the name for something independent because they rely and explore the false link to stereotypes of Latin cultures.
