Damn those are some great picks!! So jealous of Kristo’s vintage Fahrenheit! The memories and nostalgia that scent has with me....That is so cool, congrats on that pick up! And also your take on Guilty absolute is similar to mine, I totally get a band-aid, medicinal ointment, with some fuel or gasoline in there. I actually like it quite a bit.

Supposedly Amouage Opus XI is the niche version on Guilty Absolute (with real Oud). I loved GA but wish it proformed better on my skin. For designer it smoked it’s competitors easily IMO.

Great reviews and discussion about your favourites! Funny you mentioned Terre d'Hermes.... I love this fragrance, both EDT and EDP, but like Kristo I had a complicated relationship with it at first, but now I absolutely love it. One of my go to fragrances in the spring and summer! Also wanted to let you know Kristo that if you are considering getting Dress Code you should know that the latest version (2018?) is completely different from the earlier ones. It seems they love reformulating fragrances every 3-4 years, and keep us guessing...

Great list and discussion! And totally agreed on the disappointment that is Invasion Barbare-a soft and powdery barbershop frag with an odd cooked shellfish note on my skin-gross. I’ll take 1725 Casanova over it, and Sartorial over both any day. Interested to try Chypre Palatin though. My winter top 5 are: Jubilation XXV Man Égoïste Royal Oud L'Air du Désert Marocain Encre Noire

Hi Eugene and Kristo. I hope 2019 is going well for you. Youboth said you steer away from greens and light scents but in winter and so did I but yesterday I wore the original Declaration by J. C. Elena fot Cartier. It's a very light watery airy fragrance and I normally wear it in warm days but it performed really well in a Swiss winter day. I felt that it smelled like the winter sky that Kristo described. In the cold weather it revealed notes that I don't get in warm weather. This winter I will try to wear other fragrances that I only wear in spring and summer and see what surprises they have in store 😊

Great conversation guys! This is so much better than all the run of the mill lists. Almost my entire collection would fit into this category. Some favorites: Coromandel edp, Musc Ravageur, Bois D’Armenie, Shalimar, Gourmand Coquin, Chypre Palatin, Chergui, Lira, Grand Soir and Ambre Eccentrico. Mitzah and Eau Noir are two that would fit, but I don’t have full bottles in my collection...yet.

The privee line isn't overrated, many great scents come from that line: Leather Oud, Vetiver, Patchouli Imperiale, Mitzah, anr Eau Noire. The line also has a lot of really good scents: Bois d'Argent, Cuir Cannage, Oud Ispahan, and Ambre Nuit. It's just that a few from the line, namely Ambre Nuit and Feve have achieved mainstream success, so of course the hipster has to play contrarian and say the line is overrated despite the myriad great scents from the line.
@KrisKlein6 жыл бұрын
So you're opinion is the factual bottom line? I've tried everything except Vetiver and was underwhelmed or totally disinterested in everything but 2 or 3. So many are uninspired and bland and smell like a dozen other releases from mediocre designer exclusive lines. I guess I just have more discerning taste than you is all
@ColinS896 жыл бұрын
@@KrisKlein Many are going to be bland, that is the case with any line (at least in my experience). However, the line also has quite a few stunners (the ones I listed as great above). I'd like to hear which ones reminded you of other fragrances and which fragrances they reminded you of just out of interest. Idk, of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, but to me an overrated exclusive line is Chanel (especially true after the switch to edp). Most of those scents lean quite heavily feminine (I know this doesn't matter to some people, and that is fair enough, but it matters to me) and are harder to wear; fwiw I guess it'd be more fair to say the line is hard to wear rather than overrated. Coromandel for instance is a great scent, but I would rather my girlfriend wear it so I can wear Patchouli Imperial, Lidg, or Tempo. Also, Rip edt Sycomore :( Ps, you should try Vetiver, it's top tier.
@usmellsgood6 жыл бұрын
Its a good line that's only getting worse. I prefer the Les Exclusifs, Hermessence and the Les Heures much more than Dior Prive.
@ColinS896 жыл бұрын
@@usmellsgood I won't argue that it's getting worse, it makes me so sad to see what they're doing. I've tried a lot of the new scents and most are boring as all hell. I tried Purple Oud in Paris not long ago, and brought a sample back. Initially I was put off by the name (total misnomer, not much Oud here), but the more I wore it I started to like it; in a way it could be thought of as a refined, grown up version of Encre Noire. It's certainly nothing groundbreaking, but it's worth trying if you are into Vetiver. About the direction of the line, it seems like they are following the lead of Guerlain (Aqua Allegoria) and Chanel (Venise, Deauville, Biarritz) and shifting towards light, crowd-pleasing, nondescript floral scents. Most people seem to think this approach is to try and capture the Asian market. Unfortunately we are all suffering for it lol. I agree about Hermessence, but that line also has some of my favorite scents of all time. To me Privee is on par with the Cartier line. About the Exclusifs, I like a lot of the scents and of course appreciate the craftsmanship, but I just only feel comfortable wearing one or two. I guess our tastes just differ a bit. Glad we both love Leather Oud though
@usmellsgood6 жыл бұрын
@@ColinS89 Not only is the Prive line fallen on hard times the new names are downright ridiculous, Purple Oud, Lucky, Happy Hour and Rose Gypsy are an embarrassment to this once fine french perfume house. Releases like La Colle Noir, Feve, Sauvage and Joy tells me they lost the focus that made them so great till the turn of the century although the Dior Homme line is bloody brilliant.
