From personal experience I agree with most of these mods. Exhaust, I bought a cheap eBay one, but it droned & was to loud in the wrong way. Replaced with a quality Zero single exit item & it’s so much better. Arm rest, great mod worth losing cup holder for. I found a Rover MG item on eBay. Suspension, be careful what you do here. When I got mine I immediately replaced O.E. springs with Tein lowering springs & after 5 months put original O.E. springs back on. So much better in every way with O.E. springs. I think if you are not going track the car the O.E. suspension just works better on the crap UK roads. One mod not mentioned, if your tires are old and/or crap make fit new ones & get car tracking alignment done. This makes a big difference. I now think my MR2 is spot on & a pleasure to drive.

Interesting take on the suspension, ive got BC’s on mine and its stellar, its like its on rails, and still compliant, plus whiteline antiroll bars. Granted I’ve 2zz swapped mine with race manifold and race cat so theres that too. But yeah maybe it was more the particular shock spring set up you had wasn’t ideal.

@@postmortemarg i have the BC racing RM coilovers, and they has manually adjustable ride height so you put it to the height that suits you.

@@robc1014 They come preassembled right? I heard from someone that if I were to install them right off the box (without adjusting anything), the MRS will keep its original ride height??? I have the coilovers new in box sitting in the passenger seat for months. Haven't gotten around to install them yet 😂

@ they do yes, cmon man, just crack the box open 😂 put em in and enjoy. Should be standard ride height or marginally lower but nothing major.

Cool build. The ultimate mod for this car IMO is 2ZZ + supercharger. You should pull that off. Also yes, confirmed, OEM hardtops are now around 4k$ (if you can even find one at all). I know because i sold mine, Im in the NYC metro area.

Cupholder only works under 3mph. Otherwise you are fishing that drink out from behind the seat.

The armest mod is great! Yeah you lose a cup holder, but i still have the 2 under the radio and i personally dont use them much amyways so its perfect for me

I may be mis-remembering this, but was it on your car that you had an OEM header from like a Corolla or something to get rid of that annoying weird flange on the exhaust between the header and cat pipe? I’m about to do some exhaust work and I want it to look sort of OEM and pass smog and that might be something I’m interested in if it works.

They're awesome! If you want to get into one now really is the time as they're getting harder and harder to find as good deals. People finally are warming up to them and the prices are starting to reflect that. I wanted one for years and just last year it seems they were like $5,000-$6,000 for one with around 100k miles but bought a 986 Boxster instead. After selling my Boxster I managed to get my MR2 Spyder for $7,500 just a year after they were possibly almost $1,000 less.

Spyder looks still very much like a girls car. Like the Fiat Barchetta or even a Miata. Butit doesnt matter, strange cars often are really good cars because they excell in some way. The MR2 Spyder gives you the best handling sportscar with average to no HP. Its the same handling of a Ferrari but at a lower speed, way lower haha
