Nicely done. Wildcats are the most fun to work with. They take more research and work to truly understand how they work and where they truly shine.

Just saw your post. I have been shooting for little over 10 years now an excellent Wildcat that my gunsmith and I put together sometime ago. I neck down a 338 Lapua mag. to a 7mm-338 Lapua. With a muzzle velocity of 3425 the trajectory on the chart has the 160 grain accubond bullet dropping -202 inches @ 1000 yards. This rifle and caliber has been excellent. For hunting unstoppable.

Seems I recall the U.S. Government went to Roy Weatherby for the development of an insanely fast super-cartridge. It seems like I read something north of 5,000 FPS or more.
@ReloadingWeatherby2 жыл бұрын
That is correct. Roy was experimenting with the 30-378 Weatherby before they released it to the public.

Sir, you have found some of the most interesting Wildcat cartridges I've never heard of. (Well except the .408 Chey Tac) Now I will go back to my reloading manuals to research more. Thank you for another great video.

The allen magnum line would be right in there as well. The 338 allen mag with a 300 berger is pretty flat to 1000y.

I just recently saw two new wildcats. One was a .17/5.56 doing like 4800+fps and the other was a 7prc case necked down to 6mm and it was shooting insanely flat.

The scramjet 257 is a smaller case then the firebird 284 in the lazzeroni cases.

7.92x107 DS is another crazy flat one. It was a Polish military cartridge from 1931 that, as far as I am aware, was never CIP or SAAMI specced, so maybe it should count in this discussion. Basically its a .645 base diameter case that's 4.22" long, pushing a 225gr 8mm bullet at almost 4200fps from the 47 inch barrelled wz. 35 rifle.

Another awesome cartridge video sir! I am wondering if you have heard of the Kirby Alen wildcat cartridges. Not sure if they are flatter shooting but wow, they are fast and powerful. I love Weatherby cartridges, and I own 5 Weatherby rifles each in a Weatherby caliber. I do have a .340 Weatherby in a Mark V Deluxe that I truly love. I was happy to watch the video that you made for Alaskan big game calibers and 17 years ago I thought the same thig. The .340 Weatherby would be at home in Alaska!

Oh! Another thought (I’ll stop after this third post haha) - if you’re not familiar with it look up the .244 HH magnum. It’s exactly what it sounds like, a full length 375hh/300hh case necked down to 6mm. And it’s OLD! 1955…

Yes sir, in response to Lundy's Den comment, the Allen express, and also the magnums are crazy! A .338 LM necked down to 7mm still going 2910 fps with 3759 mv at 400 yards!! And this is a 200 grain ULD RBBT bullet according to his website data.

How Does the Lazzeroni warbird compare to the firebird as far as case capacity goes ? I was under the impression the warbird was the flattest of the lazzeroni line. Great videos.
@ReloadingWeatherby2 жыл бұрын
I believe the warbird is a bigger case, just the high b.c. of 7mm beats it out. But I could be off haha

Had you never heard of the Allen magnum and raptor rounds? Some of them are more modern versions, and some even beat the lazzeroni’s in pure speed

The 33XC is not based on the 338 Lapua, it is a proprietary Design from David Tubb. Bolt Face is the same as 338 Lapua, to be able to switch to XC from 338 Lapua without buying a new Action. The 33XC can´t be made from 338 Lapua Brass, since it is that much longer. And the Shoulder is 35°, not 30°. With a long barrel and the right bullet, it´s capable of around 2100 Yards SuperSonic, which is crazy.
@chrisz69182 жыл бұрын
I wouldn´t call the 33XC a Wildcat, at least to my definition of a Wildcat.

Be very very similar to the 7mm STW and .28 Nosler as far as performance. A little behind the 7mm lazzeroni, 7mm RUM, and 7mm Allen Magnum. More practical than any of those three.

I got plans for a flat shooter in the future. I have a 32 inch bartlein barrel in .257”’bore that I intend to do a .25-300 weatherby on some day. Not so much for true long range with ultra high bc bullets as for seeing how stupid fast we can go with the usual 75-120 grain .25 cal bullets. An ultimate hot rod maximum hold-on-hair range deer cannon haha. If my 24 inch .257 weatherby can make a 100 grain hit 3700 then a 32 inch 25-300 weatherby should have no trouble getting WELL north of 4000 😁😁😁😁

You never mentioned barrel lengths. Custom rifles with 32 inch barrels should beat these velocities if all of these are using 28 inch tubes.

I own for 30 years a Brevex Mauser I have done with a 30-inch Douglas barrel in 8 mm -378 Weatherby magnum so I have allot of experiences in the 378 Wby case in wildcats. The problem is the smaller to barrel bore only so much pressure can be filled the barrel then comes over pressure. The larger the barrels bore the more powder can be added and up comes the pressure that is acceptable for barrel bore diameter. 30 - 378 Wby is about as small as bore diameter you want to go before having to reduce powder charges then loose the whole idea of a fast wildcat cartridge. Long ago before the 30-378 Wby was commercial standardized I was loading the 8 mm -378 Wby mag and found exactly what I just wrote the 8 mm bore can only take just so much pressure before it becomes a problem for expanding case primer pockets - wrecking primer pocket expanded not to hold a primer or just screw up the cartridge badly so it can't be used again. My loading for the 8 mm-378 Wby mag for all the bullets I use are for 185 - 200 - 220 grain Barns X and Yes Barns X I own a Hugh amount of them because I only shoot these are Big game, that power and charge of powder I used for these bullets is IMR 7828 of 105 to 110 grains not more of it wrecked the primer pockets on Hugh dollar bras. - velocity for 185 grain bullets is a consistent over 3900 FPS. I also load and shoot the Barns TTSX 165 grain 8 mm for extreme High speed in the range of 4200 FPS using 120 grains of IMR 7828./ by using the 30-inch barrel all the powered is burnt and shows no muzzle flash just allot of smoke.
