Went with OpnSense because they use newer versions of BSD. I believe they are releasing the 14.1 kernel. My machine has the new v226 nics at 2.5gbe.

2.5 gbe is awesome. I have both pfsense and OPNSense devices using them. MutiGig is because common. It is exciting

I've been using both Pfsense and OpnSense for years and I've recently just got a new machine with 6x 2.5Gbe Intel i226-V 2.5GNICs so I'm specifically putting OpnSense on that for the same reason as you . I might give OpenWRT a little blast to try out the WIFI6 capability but i'll more than likely fall back to what I know OpnSense. I do like PFSENSE+ but I don't like the fact that its been falling behind on updates. With regards to WIFI, YES we can buy dedicated access points, and I don't mind doing that but it would be nice to have decent integrated WIFI at the router. It boggles my brain that manufacturers don't provide FREEBSD driver support.

@@ecotts I feel the same way. I wanted to have a kickass all in one kinda of machine. But will need to go towards the access point on a Poe+ switch. Hopefully keeping the 2.5gbe connection.

Are you deploying OPNsense firewalls for your customers or are you using Netgate boxes (its what i do)? I do use OPNsense for customers where I require extra visability because of Zenarmor and the builtin Netflow collector.

I know it's not the same but we actually use pfsense virtualised under hyper-v for some NAT'd miscellaneous/internal stuff on one of our colo'd web servers as well as VPN tunnel, for some specific things it's amazing as we're getting the best of both worlds of backup NAS's etc on our internal network with the redundancy and more robust network connections of a DC

Pfblocker is not available. You can do similar things with Zen armor
