Hello Flo I enjoy seeing how you and your husband like making videos together. Makes me happy to see happy people like you guys. A challenge to you. I have used a traditional pressure cooker for years. It has worked well for our household but is the Insta Pot really better? I don’t have an Insta Pot but I would like to see you cook/compare cooking methods between the two. Is the traditional-method superior or is the new Insta Pot the way to go? Could you please give us a demo between cooking, for example, a pot roast between a traditional pressure cooker and the newest Insta Pot? Please point out all the differences. How much better is the Insta Pot or is it really better? Looking forward to your findings. Thanks much.

Thanks for the tips! My tip is for frozen white castle burgers (since we don't have them in CA). My S.O. prefers them steamed so we use the steam function for 2-9 mins... Depending on how many you're cooking. We use the trivet, pour in a cup of water, and then lay down a sheet or 2 of parchment paper. Large enough to cover the trivet and come up the sides of the pot - no bigger than the top of the trivet handles. Steam and nom!

Hi Flo and Dude! You both have gotten me over being scared of my Instant Pot and now having fun finding out what deliscious meals it can make. I have the 8 quart, so maybe my trivet has longer handles. I wear my silocone oven mits, grab the base of a wooden spoon and put the dowel end through both handles. With one hand on the middle of the spoon I lift the inner pot high enough until I can grab the top of my pot in pot bowl. Works for me. Thanks again and keep those videos coming! HPE Teacher

I also use the "slow - quick release" method, but I place the pot under the exhaust vent on a cookie sheet to keep the pot level. I then cover the steam release spout with a kitchen towel to keep the moisture and water droplets localized and to soak up the heaviest release . I leave the exhaust fan running until the steam release is finished to vent most of the moisture. Great tips for users. Thanks.

Hi Flo, I have a tip to minimize the steam (or any possible spewing). After I open the quick release valve, I gently place a damp dishcloth over the valve to collect the steam. This also minimizes the loud hissing sounds that frighten my dogs and make them run for the hills (hahaha).

Another very good video Flo and Dude. Appreciated the helpful tips. Yes, it's too bad that trivet doesn't come with tabs to more easily grab and lift the trivet out...Your idea with the aluminum foil is a good one. I do like those little red silicone grippers that are sold, they make it a bit easier for grabbing the trivet and for holding the pot when stirring (because it spins). The silicon grippers aren't as cumbersome as oven mitts. Thanks for mentioning the PIP method....I forget about doing that.

For release of something I know will foam up - like pasta - I do a stepped quick release. So release for a count of 10, seal for count of 10 and so on. You can use the heartbeat indicator in the timer to count the seconds. After the initial surge of pressure eases off, you can increase the release to 20 seconds open/10 shut. It just gives whatever is inside foaming up chance to subside.

I'm no expert but I don't think it matters much; quick release if you want access to the food sooner. Sometimes, I'll let it release slowly on it's own (I do nothing) because I want it to simmer longer.

I love the foil handle idea but am concerned about aluminum breakdown during the pressure. Supposedly alum offgasses same as mercury in the teeth and we are advsied to stay away from using it, it micro flakes off. Don't know if its true but maybe inventing something with silicone might be safer (until they find out it is also toxic ... don't mean to be Debbie Downer, love your presentations), just sharing for consideration.
@crr5699
@crr5699 5 жыл бұрын
You are correct that Aluminum is toxic for us and should never come into contact with our food. Not sure if it off-gasses. Will have to look into that. I was thinking a rope handle might be an easy and safe fix instead of the aluminum foil handles.

Great tips here, thanks. I am still tossing up which to get, an IP or a Pressure Cooker. I don’t really understand what the main differences are yet as still researching. I cook Oats in the normal way that only take me 3 mins on element and also rice in a lidded pot on element only takes 12 mins...so do not see why I would cook them in an IP. But for stews and other meats will def be quicker and by the looks succulent too. Thanks again for your time. Cheers

Neena Me I have both. A while back I splurged and finally got a Vitaquick, which I love. Then on Cyber Monday, I got an IP on Amazon, the price was too good to pass up. Since I got the IP, my Vitaquick has collected dust on a shelf. The main difference for me is that a regular PC needs to be babied. First you have to use high heat to bring it to pressure which can take 5-10 minutes; then lower heat to maintain pressure and set a timer for cooking time; and finally turn off the burner when done. With the IP you set it and forget it. I always time the IP to account for the extra time in natural release, so I don't have to worry about coming back to the kitchen to quick release before my food overcooks; I am too darn lazy. Also I love the option of PIP cooking, which is not always possible in a regular PC, depending on its shape. Another weird thing I love, and do regularly, is sterilize mason jars for sprouting (my IP has the sterilize feature). The only advantage I can think of for a regular PC is that you can use it without electricity. Last year we had a hurricane and I used my PC with a propane burner to cook a meal in 30 minutes that would've taken 2 hours and a lot more fuel. Hope that helps.

@@jdmosaics I have both the IP and stove top pressure cooker. I sometimes prefer my stove top over the IP. Making potatoes in the stove top cooker is about 6-7 min total time. Waiting for the IP to come to pressure doubles that time. Also, on the stove top cooker you can instantly release the pressure by running cold water over the lid. Clean up is way easier as well because everything can be immersed in water. IP is great for being able to walk away knowing its on a timer. IP still saves time over conventional cooking or a crock pot with amazing results but I guess I'm just old fashioned and like the old style stove top pressure cooker.
