@@Ferotiq Unfortunately Mercedes Benz is joining the bandwagon and trying to make software a service, with customers paying for upgrades. That may be fine if you can buy an older car and get an upgrade, but two years after I bought a new car, they downgraded the functions in Mercedes Me (e.g. remote unlock, remote fuel level check etc.) unless I pay a subscription. Even worse for the core dashboard, where upgrading the maps etc. costs serious money. Software should not become a revenue stream on an already expensive car.

It's literally in the VW ID car family as well though, which you can get from below 30k Euro. I'm not really too impressed with this car, sure, it looks good but doesn't do a lot of stuff different than cars which sell for a lot less. I don't know about the mileage either.

@@dsf0501 i estimate you are from germany ;) so first of all: it‘s still a s-class. So its pure elegance. The build quaility is way above any other electronic car. Automatic Parking is crazy also automatic in the parkhouses who can Support automatic parking. The driving assist systems are the best on the road. The infotainment System and the Layout is also something else. Don‘t get me wrong: i do understand that you see a small difference between the eqc and the id.3 but in reallife it‘s a huge difference.

It’s good to see traditional manufacturers finally embrace the electric revolution so no doubt I’d take the EQS. However, a slow UI can be a really bad thing especially down the road. If it’s slow now, how will it be 5-6 years down the road? I do understand that some Mercedes owners probably don’t keep their cars that long but it’s worrisome to build such a great electric car, only to be dumped to the scrap because the UI is bad. Hopefully, the updates will help it.

Tough question. I currently drive a Mercedes E-Class that I really like. It perfectly meets my needs but I do recognize that the future of personal transportation will be electric. There are a ton of logistical issues to work out and I think we’ll need a miracle or two to develop the battery technology that it’ll take to win over the skeptics (like me). But, I can be convinced. If the recharging options for both in route and destination needs were as plentiful as they are for the Tesla I’d say drop the EQS in my driveway. I’m ok keeping my E-Class until then.

I'm pretty sure it's the same tech that recognises if you're awake/asleep or not paying attention to the road. The IR sensors/cameras can be seen in the top of the instrument cluster at 10:58.

But if personal data like the IR-Sensor has to go through a Server, then I am very concerned about privacy. I know Tesla's car's are like that, that your personal roadtrip is going to be saved in a server, just to improve the AI Algorithm inside the car. That is simply not acceptable!

I own an EQS 580 so clearly that's my answer. It's like driving the starship enterprise. There are still features I'm learning about every time I drive it. I have the pinnacle package which takes it up a notch from business class to first. The massage features could be more intense, but I like that it's heated. And even though it's quite long It's the most maneuverable vehicle I've ever driven, because of the 10 degree rear-axle turning. The hyperscreen is a bit much, but still pretty cool.

@ Marques Brownlee I know it may seem nuts regarding the tablet, but you need to keep in mind that the tablets in cars also need to get global type approvals. Since Merc already had the S4 based tablet certified, it was a major saving both in terms of money and time. It would take about 1 year and 2 million bucks to certify a new tablet. That is only for the cost of the certifications around the world.

In answer to your question, 100% electric. I am in the process of selling my MB ML350 and buying an electric car. This one is sadly out of my range, but I LOVE the build quality of my Mercedes! It has a lot of the features that you mentioned, like parkassist, which have been around since around 2014, and it also has the worst software of any vehicle. There is an option on my car for apple carplay support, but at $800, I gave it a pass. The navigation is clunky and slow: I just have a phone mount and use Google Maps if I need to go somewhere I haven't been.
