I am an absolute Schumi nut, and my greatest ever memory was at Melbourne GP, Coming in as a 4 time world champion, on the drivers parade, I made eye contact with him, gave him a thumbs us, then held up 5 fingers, for 5xWC. He saw that, held up 5 fingers and nodded at me. I was speechless. I remember getting up at 3am to see him win his 5th WC and being overcome with emotion.

Canada 1995. Race won by Alesi. During his victory lap the car ran out of fuel and parks in on track and exit the car. While standing there waving to the crowd you see Schumacher's Benetton approaching and slows down just to pick him up and let Alesi complete his victory lap on the back of his Benetton.

The best ever in my book. The combination of commitment to the sport, training, concentration when on track and raw driving skills was unprecedented, and hasn't been even touched since. I'm afraid we will never see another MS, speedy recovery champ.

Every time he and Hakkinen were fighting wheel to wheel for the big W has to be a great MSC moment. These two will always remain my favourite drivers of all time, their rivalry in the track opposed to their great friendship outside of it was just the best thing in the F1 business.

Brazil 2006 is one of my favorites. he went almost a lap down early on, and then drove his heart out to fight his way back up to 4th place, in what was to be his final race at the time(until his comeback 3 years later). He was fighting with Alonso for the championship that year, and even though his title hopes were all but gone by that point, the way he simply didn't give up and kept fighting till the very end was admirable.

There´s plenty of great moments throughout Michaels career, but maybe the most impressive drive I´ve seen from him was in malaysia 99. In his comeback after breaking his leg at silverstone a few months back, gets the pole by being over a second faster than both Mclarens in qualy, starts the race and imediately goes away and makes a 5 second gap to Irvine/Hakkinen/Coulthard in 3 or 4 laps just to assert he was the fastest out there and then proceeds to slow down, let Irvine through(because believe it or not,Irvine was in the title fight with Hakkinen)effectively playing the role of a real second driver maybe for the first and only time in his career and basically ruin Hakkinens race completely by slowing him down at crucial points(all within the rules, just incredible covering of Hak). Oh,And he still ended the race just behind Irvine and with 3 pit stops.

No Michael did not 'bend the rule' in '94. Schumacher had the track position, Hill was trying to pass him half off track, and if you look at replays from onboard his car, DH hit him, not the other way around...He was only halfway alongside the car, so it was at best a racing incident. At worst, Hill's fault.

hill literally divebombed schumi and came in at an insanely steep angle as soon as he closed up to schumi. That was a really unwise decision by hill as well, since if schumi's car was actually damaged in the previous corner as some sources claimed, all hill needed to do is be patient for a few corners. To me, it just shows how little confidence hill actually has at properly over taking schumacher with real pace.

Schumacher hit the wall at the exit of turn 5 on Lap 36 in Adelaide 1994. His car was irreversibly damaged. He was about to drive his car up the escape road at turn 6 to retire but instead made one more last ditch attempt to take Hill out with him, and therefore take the title by a point. Hill, unaware Schumacher's car was damaged, moved left and then right. Schumacher blocked the first; and drove into Hill on the second. What Schumacher did was inch-perfect because he only had one chance to achieve his quest of taking Hill out. And my how he managed it! Former FIA President Max Mosley has since said that if a driver did that today he would be disqualified from the Championship. Indeed Schumacher attempted a similar move in 1997 on Villeneuve in the final race when he led the title race by one point. But this time; he was thrown out of the Championship. The greatest driver to ever live, an iconic athlete the world over, and in my opinion his Monte Carlo Qualifying 2006 incident was a mistake at the final corner, rather than an act of cheating. But his past caught up with him on that day and his qualifying times were deleted. Rightly remembered as a legend, but he cheated to claim the 1994 title.

Even Damon admits he was at fault, and has done since the event. The '06 one is not clear cut, He had an hydraulic issue and would have taken a ten place penalty for that, but in the only case ever the FIA decided he could have driven the rest of the lap so Dqd him from qualifying, although it's doubtful he could have got into the pits.

The Italian Grand Prix back in 2000. Schumacher scored his 41st victory in Formula One, equaling Ayrton Senna’s record. In the press conference he was asked if those records mean a lot to him. He replied: “Yes, it does mean a lot to me.” Then he broke down crying, as Mika Häkkinen and Michael’s younger brother Ralph, try to console him. That was a very powerful moment, and my all time favourite Michael Schumacher moment. #KeepFightingMichael.

My first F1 race I watched was the 97 Monaco GP where Schumi did win with almost a full minute ahead of the second place driver. And I would put his 2000 Suzuka race up there as well where he clinched his first title with Ferrari. Not forgetting the 95 Spa race, winning from 16th on the grid. And you can go on and on and on, he was just such a legend :)

He was one of my idols growing, and... Honestly, yeah, the ruthless win at all costs approach I didn't like, but I understood. He was just a step above, F1 would not be where it is without him, especially not in Germany. You say about him bending rules, there's also 2010 where his ambush on Alonso in Monaco had to re-write the rule-book, never mind after when he forced a re-write of the Q3 rules as well, knowing he didn't have the pace and/or car to compete for pole. I remember his gesture to Vettel in his last race, I remember blubbing like an idiot in 99 when I honestly thought he was dead at Silverstone, and blubbing again at Monza in 06. I remember folks in Mercedes still referencing thing MSC did that has helped them gain dominance after he left. He was, and still is, the man. And for me, always will be, Rosberg mentioned competing with him as a way of handling Hamilton. I'm sorry for Rubinho, though... He deserved to be champion, and in any other context, he would have been...

One of top Schumacher moments....well it's an entire race, China 2006, the site of his 91st and last win. Qualifying was in the rain and the Bridgestone west were not near as good as the Michelin wets. Alonso had the pole but what's amazing, Schumacher (6th) qualified a full 10 spots higher than the next Bridgestone shod car. As the race started Alonso and Fisichella took off and was lengthening their lead as the laps went by, the rains stopped and a dry line was forming. It was then Schumacher went into the pits and got dry tires and with the 2 Renault drivers still on inters. Schumacher was taking 2-3 seconds a lap off Alonso and Fisichella's lead as the track dried, he finally caught Alonso and made an incredible pass at the first turn of the Shanghai track, Alonso in the lead and Schumacher took a very wide line into the turn giving him the position to shorten the apex of turn 2 and Schumacher dove under Alonso and then drove away from him. His earlier pass on Fisichella was just as dramatic as Fisichella coming out of the pits while Schumacher pitted a couple of laps prior, but Schumacher's tires were up to temperature and Fisichella just didn't have the grip yet and Schumacher dove under Fisichella who almost pushed Schumacher off the track....nobody was or is or will be as good as Schumacher...he was just so much better and in the best car, it was fate or something that the two best, in car and driver that came together at the right place and time...and history was made every race....and a complete whitewash of the record books...and yea, dominance is great, we rarely get to withness when someone takes such a leap forward, that the others just have to concede that this once in a lifetime driver races in their era...

Tall Man I've never rated Rosberg as a F1 driver. Hamilton is definitely way more talented than Rosberg but his dominance the past two years comes as a result of the car. Howev you're comparing the best English driver to the wrong German driver. The right one has 4 consecutive drivers championship. Only reason Rosberg is even in this conversation is because he drives the same car as Hamilton. If it was Seb instead of Rosberg it would definitely be a much closer race for the driver's title. We'll see how this season plays out. If Ferrari has indeed closed the gap to Mercedes then Hamilton will actually have to try and that's when we'll see who the better driver is. And before you tell me that the Redbull car dominated all other cars in the field I will remind you that 2010 was decided with Alonso

1997 French Gp. It was my third ever race and I recorded it on VHS. I used to have it on as background noise a lot. Absolute domination from him. The rain came and he stayed out on slicks and despite going off and recovering, still won the race by a big margin to Frentzen 1997 Monaco GP. The first race I ever saw. A masterclass in the wet where he led by 4 seconds by the end of lap 1. He did the same in Spa that year The 2006 Brazilian GP. His courageous fightback after having to start 10th for a gearbox penalty then a puncture and nearly being lapped by Felipe Massa in 1st place. He climbed to 4th. His last win in 2006 at China strategically beating Alonso and Fisichella When he surpassed Ayrton Senna in wins and broke down crying in the interview room The list goes on and on.

In his last race at Ferrari (and which was, at the time, the last of his career) he had a punctured tyre that brought him all the way to the back of the race. He then went on to overtake almost the entire grid and went from last all the way to fourth! One got the feeling that with enough laps he could've won that race.

What about the time he had to 4 stop at the French GP, or the time when I think it was his first or second year in F1 when he spotted his teamates tires getting worn down quicker than predictions and he told the team he was changing his strategy and would be stopping sooner. i hate it when people say schumi cheatet or was driving unfair. thats not true at the time he does that this was a normal race fight and you all haters forget schumi was an human and humans are not perfekt all the time. benetton cheattet whith the car not schumi thats why he was going to ferrari. and the mistake from him in monaco was an mistake not cheating or making alonso to fail the pole position. i shown enough english race and the english kommentators are allways not on the best drivers side thats normal in all the world in every country. In UK ur are for Uk people, in USA they are for USA people thats normal. but thinking a charakter like Michael is a bad or hes thinking bad or so then thats not true he shows oft enough that he is no driver like others when you wont see it than thats your problem. The best driver is for the driver how can drive a bad car good and schumi the only one i ever seen that can do this. Hamilton, raikonnen, Vettel usw ar good drivers but they cant make a bad car good, they need a good car to win. Senna was the only one that came close to Michaels abbilities. Michael was able to drive a car faster than the car goes no one can explain why its just a talent he was born with, same like Da vinci, einstein, Cesar, John F. Kennedy or bruce lee and many more there are people there exist on time in history. genius in his special abbilities. enjoy the times when you see such peoples they are exist not oft enough to enjoy.

Whilst I'm admittedly not a Schumacher fan, there's no doubting his racing greatness. Narrowing down to 5 moments is not easy, but this is a great selection. I like the fact you didn't gloss over his "bending" of the rules - as a Hill fan, I find that definition rather kind ;-) His comeback with Mercedes showed him up for being a little more human than maybe was thought (there's more than a little smoke regarding illegal driving aids on his 94 Benetton car - traction control, tampered refueling rigs - we'll never know). I did enjoy his Monaco 2012 pole and did think it was a shame he couldn't start from there on race day. And to finally show the British public that he had a sense of humour as the faux Stig on Top Gear is also a great inclusion.

To get a pole position more than 20 years after the first race in F1 is FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE. MICHAEL, YOU HAVE OUR HEARTS... Also, it is more than funny that Bruno SENNA caused the Spanish crash, so Michael SHOULD HAVE STARTED FROM POLE AND WON IN MONACO, EQUALLING AYRTON'S 6 WINS!!! He was also destroyed by another driver (JPM) in 2004 (while leading), which interrupted his unprecedented series of 13 wins in 14 races (although Michael's win was NOT probable even without the crash - but it was DEFINITELY possible). It could be 14 straight wins, making Seb's 9 in 2013 substantially less awesome. Anyway, I used to hate Michael extremely for his dirty stuff when he was younger. Later on, his dirty stuff got SUBSTANTIALLY more civil. Most of the time... ;-)

jakubkrcma the stewards found Michael Schumacher guilty of causing the collision, and that's the end of the story. decision by fact, like in football. there, it is a penalty if the referee blows the whistle, not more and not less.

TheColinChapman Yes, stewards are the biggest disaster in F1. When the attacker (i.e. the faster, hence morally superior driver, regardless to whether it is his own skill or his car's capability) goes for an attack and the defender makes a move that gives the attacker no room or forces him into contact, it is the defender's fault. And is precisely what happened. Basically, the stewards' decision means that you should only overtake in ideal circumstances which nearly never occur in fact. I have always hated when the slower guy fucks up the faster guy's race (or two races in this case). For that reason, Max Verstappen is my most hated driver in decades, for example. And he is not stopping because the ridiculous stewards are not making him stop... Their decisions are incorrect, inconsistent, and terribly harmful to drivers, F1, and sports in general. There MUST be a panel of permanent stewards with PROPER qualification, understanding, and procedures. Otherwise the innocent will keep being punished and the guilty will keep getting away with stuff.

jakubkrcma I agree to the point that the stewards and their decisions are sometimes not part of the solution, but part of the problem - they are human, humans make mistakes. I disagree on the point that in an infight 'faster' implies any kind of 'moralistic superiority'. it must be legal for the driver in front to try to keep another driver behind him, this is an essential part of a RACE. at least on sunday. there is a competition where the only the fastest man wins - it is called 'qualifying' and takes place on saturday.

The defending driver must proceed fully within the framework of the rules and principles of racing and sportsmanship in general. Obviously, racing is about overtaking, to a very big extent. But it must be fair from both sides, the passer and the passed.
@TheColinChapman

jakubkrcma that I can totally sign up to. But - in the end, what counts, is the verdict of the stewards of the meeting - as amatter of fact.

Verstappen tries to be like Senna on track, overly aggressive and with ALOT of confidence. The problem with that is that Verstappen is lacking the skill Senna had and thus ends up crashing alot, both into barriers and other cars. Senna forced his way through the field and overtook rivals where they neither expected it, nor would dare to overtake. He risked everything and relied on his opponents to make way for him, Verstappen just does not get it.

94 or 95 Damon Hill ran into Michael in Monza at the Variante Ascari while Michael was leading taking the both of them out of the contest. Immediately Michael hopped out of his Benetton and ran over and grabbed Damon by what looked like his neck. I always wished I could have heard what language and how Michael was communicating it.

ferrari2k You are correct about the Monaco gp. At Hungary 2005 he grabbed pole by some margin, driving an awful car. And although everyone thought that Schumi's car was the lightest, he dived in the pits 3rd or 4th from the frontrunners.

Honourable mention to his cameo right at the end of the animated film "Cars", where he voices an Italian-speaking Ferrari. Another one where he was late getting to the airport with his family, and asked the taxi driver if he could drive instead.

Schumacher taking Hill out in 94 an attempting to take out Villeneuve in 97 tarnishes any sense of him being a "proper" champion or a "good ambassador". Senna's career is similarly blotted. The likes of Jackie Stewart who watched so many of his colleagues die through accidents, not even deliberate acts, including world champions, would probably take that as an insult.
