A lot of good advice in 7 minutes. If I may add some suggestions and insight - Of all the items mentioned, the most important one in my opinion is to Get A Good Coach! You will progess faster and not have to unlearn bad habits or techniques that the well-meaning but amature squad mate will show you or teach you. You can get all your basic equipment for about $1,000 or so especially if you go with a good used shotgun. All you really need is a shotgun, vest, eye and hearing protection. My recommendation for a shotgun would be a good used semiautomatic such as a Remington 1100 or 1187. There are other makes of course but used Remingtons plentiful and inexpensive. Use the money you save to buy ammunition and most importantly, a good coach. A good semiautomatic has less felt recoil and provides a good base at a very reasonable price to learn what works for you in regards to stock dimensions, weight, and balance. You can always upgrade if you feel the need. Keep a diary. You will find your notes will become more detailed as you progress in your skills and experience. If you begin to shoot competitevly, a diary is critical. Be sure to include information on the range, weather conditions, time of day you shot, names of the field referee, etc. You will find this information helpful when you schedule your time slot. Some ranges are more windy in the afternoon than in the morning, or the position of the sun can be a factor. Include comments on the background. Are there trees, or mountains in the background or is it clear sky? The list of details can be almost endless. When practicing or shooting recreationally, try to shoot with people that shoot a little better than you. Sometimes you need that motivation to shoot better. With that said, don't be afraid to occasionally shoot with beginners. Shooting with beginners allows you to work on your mental game of isolating distractions. The same can be said for shooting in less than ideal weather, just don't try to shoot through a thunder storm! Above all, be safe and enjoy the game! 2 at L8

Thank you for the comment, we're glad you found these tips helpful! :) Absolutely, the coach plays a key role, and it's always important to highlight that. Your advice on equipment and keeping a diary is also very useful and will help beginners. I appreciate your wise advice on shooting with those better than you for motivation, and with beginners to work on focus. Thank you for sharing your experience and for your advice and support!

@@ImprovementsAlice Alise, you're asking me an excellent question. In my mother tongue, French, we have a proverb that says that appetite comes with eating... I am inclined to tell you that the passion for skeet goes through the royal road of well-directed and well-supervised practice with a program and a competent instructor. What for? Because in the absence of the above, the successes will be meager. This will affect the beginner's self-confidence. When I have a pure beginner who is very green when it comes to clay shooting, I first study his neuro-muscular skills. I ask if he/she practices an activity that requires hand/eye or foot coordination, such as: badminton, soccer, basketball, football, handball, nintendo, martial art, etc, etc. I set up a basic practice plan so that he/she can break right away targets. If only 8 or 10 out of 25. It is in a moment like this that the spark of the Passion is kindled. When he/she returns home, he/she says to himself/herself I am capable. I can break fliying target. Such magical moments promote the rooting of the Passion. All that remains to be done is to cultivate it with the right coaching approaches.

These are wise wordsб Marc.In all areas, we work with people, and everyone is unique-both in physicality and mentality. It's very important for a coach to find the right approach for each individual 😊

Dear Alice. I'm going to comment on the impactful intelligence of this video in a second step. Firstly, I would really like to know in which country you shoot skeet. The reason I'm asking you this question is I'd like to have the experience of shooting with you, Dr. Maltsev and your teammates. The atmosphere is electrifying!!!! I would like to live this in my life. Just a quick introduction about me. I live near Montreal, Canada and I am 70+ yro. I still shooting and coaching international skeet. I had coaching siminars with 3 fantastic men in my life who inspired me to understand the rationale of skeet. Two Americans: Todd Bender and Angelo Troisi. And, a third but not the least, Lubos Adamec from the KOMETA Brno club in the Czech Republic. In order to learn relevent basics at the beginning, you understand that I moved to the USA and CZE. Which corresponds to one of your important points in your video, ie; the choice of a competent coach. I will come back to this CRUCIAL word of competence..

Mark, thank you for your kind comment! Your experience is impressive, and it's great to hear you've worked with such renowned trainers. This truly underscores the importance of choosing a competent coach. We shoot in various locations - Ukraine, Romania, Italy, and Sicily, mainly in Europe. Perhaps one day, you'll be in our area, or we'll be in yours, and we can train together :)

Alise, indeed the five mistakes you point out are very common among beginners. I would like to add a few others as important as the five mentioned: Looking at the front bead at the critical moment of pressing the trigger; a lack of harmony between the speed of the target and that of the barrel; move / initiate gunmount prematurely or late after the blurr. Finally, one of the most important things to learn is to know how to use our two ocular faculties: peripheral vision and direct vision. Learn to differentiate between seeing and looking at the target. Peripheral vision allows us to see the blurr and move as soon as the target emerges, and, then quickly, look at the target with direct vision from the side of the barrel where the target is. I fully agree with what you say about shotguns. To me, the most important thing is the gun fit and the reliability of the shotgun. Hundreds of times I have heard of things like, 'Ah, this guy shoots really well. He's the best of our club. I wish he was my instructor..." The idea is not bad in itself, BUT. A competent instructor does not necessarily have to be a shooter ranked in the top 50 in the world. A competent instructor is one who has great capacities of observation, analysis, communication skills, and problem solving, on the spot, not in 3 months. He/she must know all the inherent characteristics of skeet shooting: all angles, from target incomers, outgoers, corssing singles / doubles. Break the targets on the side where the shooter is standing up. On top of that, the mental approach to skeet. From what I hear from you about Dr. Maltsev, I am sure that he has mastered all of the above. Thank you for taking the time to read me as you did the other day. Marc

Thank you so much for your kind words! We're glad you enjoyed the video. In this video, we tried to describe the mistakes people make when they are just starting with skeet shooting ("very" beginners 😁). The mistakes you mentioned extend this topic well, highlighting important details that shooters should know. I especially agree that a good coach is not just an excellent shooter but also someone who possesses skills in observation, analysis, and communication. My coach, Dr. Maltsev, truly has all these qualities. Thank you for sharing your experience! Your comments are always very detailed, showing that you watch the videos attentively, and I really appreciate knowing that! We'll continue striving to make useful videos in the future!

@@ImprovementsAlice Indeed Alise, I watch all your videos attentively. I am trying to understand and assimilate the meaning of your wise comments. They are always very relevant. I have a principle that guides my learning. It's about accepting that I'm never done learning. It is by observing and listening to the best that I raise the quality of the take home messages that I communicate to my trainees. One of my juniors (14 yro) once told me how he understood the notion of the lead: "Coach Marc, to break the target, I have to shoot next to it and not at it. I replied EUREKA!! You have understood everything about lead'' Thank you Alise for your feedback

6th mistake watching this video. 90% of the people in this video have bad habits. Never buy your Dream gun for your first gun. If your dream gun isn’t built custom to your dimensions then it’s a waste of money and no new shooter should be that well fitted in any gun.
@ImprovementsAlice
@ImprovementsAlice 4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment, each one helps the channel grow! 😊 As for gun fitting, it is definitely necessary, and the video doesn't claim otherwise. Regarding "bad habits," you probably saw something that you don't like personally, but everyone has the right to choose what they prefer.

I never said gun fit wasn’t necessary. I said that new shooter shouldn’t be perfectly fit into a gun your mount isn’t consistent enough.

People making instructional shooting videos should know the difference between a firearm and a weapon. Words matter. Especially in today’s world. I’ve been shooting for over 50 years and own some fifty odd sporting firearms of all types and I don’t consider any of them to be a weapon.

When shopping for a car, do you go to the car dealership and ask to see their weapons or automobiles? When going to a kitchen supply store do you ask where to find their weapons or their knives? When going to the hope improvement store do you ask what isle they keep their weapons or their hammers? Cars, knives and hammers have all been used as a weapon. So unless you are in the military, or plan on using it to do bodily harm to another, a firearm isn’t a weapon. It’s a firearm. You have to make a conscious choice before an object or tool becomes a weapon
