Wii Music was one of my favorite games as a kid, and I had a lot of fun with it. Now that I'm 16, I don't play it nearly as much, but it was so much fun just playing around with it and doing stuff on it as a kid. That said, that E3 presentation...scarred for life.

The new controller was a big Switch at the time. Though, at that time, nobody knew that a Switch like that could even exist. Now, we're more used to that Switch then we would have been before if they made such a Switch much earlier. That's why the Wii U Gamepad had to be such a Switch, to prepare for better things later. It really makes a Switch of your prespective.

What made it cringy was, first of all, this is a corporation. They are a corporation that makes fun video games, yes, but they are still a corporation, and there is nothing more corporate than a press conference. Cringe itself is also another form of empathy. They are embarrassing themselves, and you feel their embarrassment. Imagine these people looking into the eyes of the people in the DEATHLY SILENT crowd while they are on stage. Now to get into the meat of it. First of all, we get Miyamoto coming on stage to demonstrate playing an instrument with a wiimote. He tries to play an F-Zero song, and clearly butchers it. It sounds amateurish, which is not a good look for a music game. Then, they get this goofy ass guy playing drums. At first, he does a good job of showcasing that you can actually sound like you are playing drums. Then, he starts flailing randomly and it just sounds like a bunch of noise. While he is doing that, they cut to him making this face that looks like he is high with his hair flopping about while he is flailing his arms with a cord between them shaking about. It looks goofy as shit and, again, THIS IS ON A CORPORATE PRESS CONFERENCE. Finally, the coup de grace. A bunch of corporate executives come on stage and start playing the Mario theme.... and absolutely butcher it while they have the most fake ass expressions and movements possible. They don't look like they are having fun, they look like they are trying to look like they are having fun. All while a goofy ass sounding version of the mario theme plays. Seriously, just look at their expressions while listening to that music, and REMEMBER, THIS IS A CORPORATE PRESS CONFERENCE. THIS IS FOR THE PRESS AND THEIR INVESTORS TO SEE. Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to be absolutely clear, THIS IS HIGH LEVEL CRINGE.

They actually did show off a game for the vitality sensor. I remember, you were this thing, going through a tunnel, and if your heart beated faster, you moved up, and if it was slower, you moved down. And they brought up the fact that they can try to trick your heart into beating faster by making intense music and different colors on the walls to make you nervous and all that. But I mean, let's be real, it wouldn't have worked well at all.

Regarding #3, it was always clear to me that the Wii U was a new system. The promo video showed the new system next to the TV. The promo emphasized the control, but Nintendo has always had innovative controls, so that wasn't a surprise. When I read articles later by confused writers who didn't know if this was just an add-on or a new system, I just shook my head. Again, the promo video showed the new system next to the TV. The only mistake was calling it the Wii U, which was a very unimaginative name.

The vitality sensor could have been pretty sick, The concept of, the came reacts to you pulse ( therefore stress etc. ) and adjusts the difficulty/tension/whatever seems still a sick concept... i wonder how long it will be before, in the whole upcomig VR bs, this concept will be reimagined to give a better experience in some VR Resident Evil.

lol, piss off. first of all, you can't expect everyone to watch the full speech and pick up on that one specific line in which the term "new console" isn't even the subject of the sentence. he does say "system", but the controller itself could be called a "system". also keep in mind that most people will only have seen the trailer for the console, because most people are not glued to E3, and the trailer was unquestionably ambiguous. you are also ignoring the mixed messages that nintendo was putting out. quotes from nintendo executives made it sound as though a wii successor was in the distant future. given the success of the wii, and the fact that nintendo had clearly opted out of playing a power-game, it would have made more sense for nintendo to make a peripheral rather than a new system. no one expected nintendo to actually rush out the next console, a full year before its competition was released. "Satoru Iwata has said that there is no "immediate need" to launch a successor to the Wii because Nintendo still has lots of cool things left to do with it. "When we run out of ideas with the current hardware and cannot give users any more meaningful surprises with the technology we have, that's when we will launch the new hardware,"" when i first watched the trailer, i thought the controller was an add-on for wii. there was clearly a graphical upgrade in the trailer though, so i thought the controller had additional processing power which supplemented the wii. it wasn't until i read an IGN article that i understood the wii u is a new system. im normally on top of what nintendo is doing, so if i had trouble understanding what the system was for, then what hope has anyone else?
