I applaud your rating approach but terms like "overrated" mean that you are comparing. Merely comparing used car prices is not really informative because people are trying to make a judgement about the whole package including reliability, spares availability, resale value (and therefore depreciation), etc. Can I suggest that you can do another video in which you compare several different attributes and that way get the true "best value for money." True we don't have a company like Warranty Direct with its objective reliability ratings but there are proxies; no of ads for particular makes on sites like Cheki (indicative of demand), no of complaints on various chats about particular cars, dealers, insurers, AA of Kenya purchase data, and possibly KRA as well. It's a lot of work I know, and I'm not paying the bill. I enjoy watching your videos. Keep it up Erick!

Overrated is meaning their practicability, price, usability and appeal. Car prices in Kenya are just driven by the importation ban and not necessarily market forces.

Wokabi, I am a great fun of your review but this, I tend to differ. When you say a car is overrated, what do you use as a benchmark? Price only can't be the base because it has a driving force called demand which is also subject to other qualities. To me a good scores list would be a determinant.

As important as other things go, car spares play a major role in car choice for buyers. Tbh cars like the pre-2006 fielders have way cheaper spares than the post-2006 models and that's enough reason for buyers to go for the such kama hiyo ya mataa ya boot... It has the fielder reliability, durability, status and passenger & boot capacity, yet with cheaper maintenance upsets. Spares are also quite cheap for Toyotas compared to other cars in the same class and year band. One thing with car maintenance is that sometimes you have to cough out cash for spares you didn't anticipate to purchase at that time - so the cheaper they are, the fairer it is to the owner.

A Merc W202 with an "M111 engine" is bulletproof
@rodneyagesa18513 жыл бұрын
1.Oil Leaks. This is the common issue of the 111 series. The causer is bad cylinder head gasket. 2. Loss of power, high fuel consumption. The root of evil is the air flow sensor. 3. All M111 series engines are quite noisy and featured by a short sparkplug life. Too many sensors =too many problems and that is why there are NO Mercedes on the list of reliable vehicles.
@bobbzkw13 жыл бұрын

Toyotas are indeed the leading car brand globally, but, isn't it an oxymoron to say, "Toyotas are reliable", yet at the same time say, "and I buy them at the expensive price tag because you can find parts easily and there are mechanics to fix your car almost anywhere"? If a car is reliable, why the need to anticipate replacing parts frequently and having a mechanic at your beck and call? One big beef I have about Toyotas is they are absolutely uncomfortable, especially for long journeys. Another issue, especially for second-hand imports into Kenya, don't know about other countries, Toyotas are not that safe. Can't compare to European cars. Chances of death or serious injury in a Toyota are much higher than even cars like Subaru or Honda. So, I really don't understand why people love them so much.
@HLMM_KE3 жыл бұрын
You nailed it, they are bland, and very poor build quality.

Ask yourself why all terrorist organizations must feature Toyotas in their armada!!simply put they are Beasts of burden...basic maintenance and it will run forever. All that will result in high demand hence the the high price tag.

Safety is one thing Toyota should learn from Subaru, however, let's give Toyota the benefit of the doubt, because Lexus, which is by Toyota, is one of the safest cars in the World. I just don't understand why they compromise when it comes to Toyotas.
@HLMM_KE3 жыл бұрын

@CARNVERSATIONS3 жыл бұрын
In the video we have affirmed that yes the Toyos are very reliable, very as a matter of fact but our opinion is compared to the price tags on those cars mentioned we tend to think it's a pure rip off especially within the Kenyan market where in some cases car dealers create artificial shortages to make a killing but since we have been sold the idea that if not Toyota then what? I will give an example with the vits big rip off then we tried the demio which by then was being sold at a reasonable price fresh import then once people confirmed they were good prices short up later came in the Honda fit same story prices short up! There are equally awesome reliable cars at all the price points given the problem is there has been s lot of misinformation on this brands for long that not many are willing to try
@flavian_ndunda3 жыл бұрын
Whatever you have explained here its a clear indication of demand and supply which also happens in all other products like houses, plots you can name them.Once a product has a high demand its price must be high simple economics.Don't just say the cars are overpriced cause people are buying them at the 'overpriced' value give us the reason as to why people are still buying them at that high price.Make a consultation to car valuers and also let them give a reason as to why the cars are 'overpriced' as you state. With this video I beg to differ with your review.

Totally agree on this one. The Toyota reliability, resale value, availability of parts, no if mechanics that can repair the car is unrivaled. I would love to see a direct compariosn of a harriers vs an Audi Q5 in all aspect from price of basic things like side mirrors, bumpers, plugs, service cost etc then compare performance n let everyone choose their headache. I would really love the classy Benz, Audis etc but the maintenance Vs a Toyota are waaaay waay apart. For me wacha ninunue Fielder if not a Subaru.
