Me preguntó...

During the Meiji period, when Western-style paper was introduced and became popular, ancient Japanese paper came to be recognized as ``washi.''[1] The general characteristics of Japanese paper are said to be that it has much longer fibers than Western paper, so although it is thin, it is strong, has a relatively long lifespan, and has a unique texture.

Fascinating to watch the processes and skills involved. The artisans are a joy to watch, particularly their attention to detail int the creative process, I particularly enjoyed the Japanese dolls. The paper making was lengthy with some back breaking tasks, I wonder how many young people will be drawn to this traditional craft.

You've got to wonder how the working out of these processes came about. By the 8th process I am beginning to recognize paper pulp. Their machine made shifu stoles are lovely, but mine - which are hand spun and hand woven on a silk warp - are (I believe) nicer.!

My only criticism.of the video itself: scene changes are too abrupt between craft items. Especially at the end of making the exquisite doll! We are hardly given time to appreciate her finished serene beauty before hearing crashing sounds from the next process of a completely different item! Editing please...
