The hippy movement was moving on and Disco was moving in. Musicals, however, took a very different turn instead throwing back to different times. You’re right I did not mention 1979’s Hair. Two reasons. I don’t particularly care for it and two it’s my list. I think that Wonka is far more then just “a great children’s movie” as you’ve so eloquently put it.
