Nicely done. Lots of great info and tips here. Nice to see I’m not the only one using Avenza app. It’s my primary go-to for Southern Illinois and have used it in the Red River Gorge as well. I’ve never gotten lost using it and it has gotten me back on trail after bushwhacking. Always a pleasure and take care.

Excellent Breakdown. Gaia has been the best app i have used in the last couple years. I love being able to mark possible camp locations before getting there.

I tend to use AllTrails, although I sometimes can't find certain trails in their database. Truth be told, I am a map and compass guy (yeah I'm old) but I will use my phone in a situation like you mentioned, like 'which way do I turn here' ? So I don't have to drag the map out. Oh, and the maps aren't paper anymore !

Can you record your own trips off grid, backpacking w guthook, to help navigate back to your car? or is it only for organized trails? If so, do you have a recommendation for bushwackers and crownland explorers? GREAT VIDEO 👏
