Some people love it but there's also none of that vibration feeling in your hands that persists after using a push mower. The products sounds no louder than your average upright vacuum cleaner. There's no engine that has to be winterized. It's quicker to change out the batteries than to fill it with gas, prime and hope it starts up the first time. I have only the cheap gen 1 products but I'm still more than happy with it.

I’ve owned about five push mowers throughout my adulthood. Every single one of them I’ve had problems with or had to scrap because after Ohio winters, they always kick the bucket and I’m not very mechanically inclined. I would try to work on them, but I never could quite get it. Last summer, I bought me a greenworks 60 V push Mower, And after sitting in the garage for winter, it still works incredibly. I’ve been needing a weedeater and for me, it was a no brainer. I went and got me a green works 60 V weedeater to accommodate the battery that came with my mower. I can’t recommend this manufacturer highly enough!

The advancement of battery technology in just the last few years is amazing. Imagine a landscaping crew that didn’t have to hit a gas station every morning and had solar cells on the roof of their trailer always charging something.

It has actually been the implementation of brushless motors in all the tools and mowers that has been the major improvement over the last 24 months. But yes. They are now better than gas in almost all regards. And The solar tool trailer makes that even better.

Been using a 40v twin mower for 8 years. I sharpen the blade once or twice a year and it's stupid easy because I can flip it on its side without spilling gas and oil. It's been 100% perfect.

I've been using greenworks tools for a few years now. (-all brushless- 80v chainsaw, 40v chainsaw, 40v hedge trimmer) and I've been thoroughly impressed. I did however have one 80v battery start loosing life quickly. It was past warranty so I took it apart myself and found two bad cells. I can't remember if they were Sanyo or Panasonic cells, but they were cheap to replace, and the battery was back to new again. All other batteries (about 10 of them) have faired out perfectly fine in the past 3 or 4 years.

If a company like that would come out with an electric garden tractor or sub compact I would be all over that, zero turns are great for mowing but for 15-20 k that's all they can do, if they'd come out with one that could run a tiller, snow blower/plow and some other ground engaging equipment I bet people would jump on it. I've had the GW 80V push mower, leaf blower and 18" chainsaw for 2 years now. All 3 tools work great. The 4ah battery will mow my whole yard without a problem, and it'll cut some pretty wet and long grass. Easily as strong as my toro mower that I got rid of. I've only made a few cuts with the chainsaw, but it cuts as well as a homeowner grade gas saw. The leaf blower gets used pretty frequently and also does a great job. I had a ryobi 18V blower, and the GW will literally blow the Ryobi away. The only thing I use my gas can for now is my snowblower. Still waiting for a battery powered 2 stage snowblower that can handle my driveway.

@electric6877

That is corded electric stuff. Battery amp hours don’t determine the wattage of the tool, the motor amperage does
@ecospider5
@ecospider5 3 жыл бұрын
Your battery amperage output has to match the motor or be more than the motor to get the rated power of the motor. If your battery can only put out 2 amps it does you no good to have a 50 amp motor.

I'm glad you got in touch with them, I've been watching them for a while. I too will enjoy a real-world test (hopefully by you) because run-time will be greatly effected by grass conditions, hills, etc. I am aware of the inefficiencies of gasoline engines as a ratio of energy produced at combustion / motion of the powered object. I know that cars are more than 10% due to advanced driveline components when compared to lawn mowers. I also suspect that residential mowers are likely to be more efficient than commercial due to weight, belt size, tire size, and weight. But, the 90% number seems a bit optimistic (higher than Tesla) until you factor in that all components are directly driven; the only parasitic load is the bearings supporting the shafts. The simplicity alone seems worth the buy-in. No hydraulics, belts or gearboxes? Good stuff. Thanks.

Same. I mow a lot of vacant lots in Texas that I have on contract. Some of the lots are just johnson grass and will grow 4' + in a cycle. Curious if the efficiency and quality would transfer and what it would be taking this off your standard biweekly residential cut to mowing an over grown field. At $20K, I can't imagine the replacement parts and service come as cheap as my gas unit when scalping a lot and snagging 6' of rebar. Additionally, at $20K, that would require financing for me and would definitely eat into cash flow given the payments would be $4-500 a month. This would be a big kick during the winter months.

Electric speed controllers are not easy to make but they should have figured that out for a $20k product. But that said even Tesla does not have the perfect controller yet. The software in my Model 3 has improved the speed controller every couple months. It was originally 0-60 in 4.6s now it 4.2s and they said by Christmas it will be close to 4.0s so even Tesla does not have electric speed controllers perfect yet.

11:26 3 TO 4 HOURS A DAY.... Nah bro, I average about about 6 to 7 hours a day per machine. Not to mention heavy grass most of us see especially commercial such as spring time, this thing would make it a 1/4 day.... Furthermore, the wheels are way to thin. you can see it sliding from some very basic driving on those small inclines. the mower is a cool idea, but I will be sticking to gas for the foreseeable future... average for me is 325/350 hours per machine/per year (commercial only)

They never talk about the efficiency of the whole power sourcing and delivery systems from mining coal (and/or drilling for natural gas), the delivery of these materials to the power plant, the efficiency losses in generators at the power plant, the loss in transmission lines, the loss in the transformers, and in your home lines, and in your battery charger. Also consider all the energy used and the lost efficiency of mining raw materials (like lithium and copper), the petroleum and raw materials needed for all that plastic in the batteries, and the manufacture and delivery of all of these products to your home garage. If a company wants to talk efficiency, the whole pie has to be considered (for both electric, and gas powered), or it means nothing.

Electric ZTR - we've reached the point of viability for the independent contractor on flat ground. They're still a far cry from a true commercial unit. Will it come? Without a doubt. It's not "if", but WHEN. Some important questions that almost never get asked of electric equipment manufacturers, that SHOULD have been asked here: -What is the total battery capacity in kW/hrs (kilowatt hours)? -What is the peak power of the individual drive and blade motors? -What is the constant duty rating of the individual drive and blade motors? -What is the tested duty cycle of the mower? -How many cycles is the pack rated for? You can't compare mowers without hard numbers. Anyone can build an electric mower that impresses on the first run. What counts, is how it will perform 2 or 3yrs from when you buy it.

Regarding energy efficiency comparison to gas powered engines, you’re not telling the whole story. I don’t dispute the 90% brushless motor efficiency claim but some key efficiency losses are not included such as the battery charging process, power generation and transmission processes … not insignificant losses. The big picture is much more complicated and much different than that claimed.

You do realize how much fuel is spent importing crude, processing, trucking, etc. just to power a 30% efficient gas mower. I mean a natural gas turbine running at 65% efficiency with 30% transmission loss is WAY better. Come on.

I noticed the Lowe's/Kobalt banner there. Does Greenworks make those ones? Anywho, I'm convinced to get one of those zero turns and one of their multi use trimmers. Hoping to invest in some solar panels to use for charging them in an effort to go green.

Yes, but what is the recharging times / battery life like in cold conditions on the bigger things like the mowers and lawn equipment? my friend had (HAD) an electric car and the battery life / charging times were reduced / increased almost 5 fold in very cold weather, have they thought of that? And things like chainsaws and mowers with digital displays, erm so now I have to be very careful and don't have a machine that doesnt mind living inside the boot of a car / back of truck on top of a collection of other gear and now I need to take extra sp;ecial care, take an extra hour or so per week cleaning and careing for delecate digital equipment?

Wonder if we will ever have a stumpgrinder that runs off of a battery. Or equipment on the same size as that. Battery equipment is so much better these days.

Pretty sure it will make lawn care businesses more profitable. Also being able to run earlier in the morning and later into the night because of the reduced noise.

20K for that cutter... I don't know. I absolutely love the innovation and how environmentally friendly it is but I need to see a real test to give it a fair opinion.

Environmentally friendly? You obviously have not thought hard enough on that one....lol. Gas pollutes the air. Batteries make dirt toxic for generations.

Yea because electricity is not produced and distributed by burning some kind of fuel right? Ohh yea it is! Environment friendly mowers are them old push mowers that was powered by you pushing them. Stop fooling yourself.

I wouldn't get one for being environmentally friendly. I would get one since electricity is cheaper than gasoline. For me it's about cutting costs.

All the wonderful features he was talking about are just traits of brushless motors, modern lithium ion batteries and battery management.. Anything brushless is going to have those same features. He was also comparing his to brushed motors but almost everything is going brushless these days. I don’t see anything proprietary here. Of course it looks good compared to old technology, I want to hear it being compared to close competitors.

Why did Greenworks Commercial design its 40V, 60V, and 82V tools to be incompatible with 40V, 60V, and 80V Greenworks Pro batteries?

I do wish that Stihl would make a zero-turn electric mower. This is such a new concept that a guy has a hard time making up his minde about which way to go in the electric arena... I am on borde my wife and I just have to decide weather to go EGo, Royobi or green works.
