True. When i began reading commics i was like. Batman is well known, let me focus on reading the different books/serie titles (sorry not sure how to say it right) and i wanted to read all the big events like the different Crisis from DC comics and the infinity Gauntlet from Marvel. But i think it is something every comic book fan have to go through.

Another helpful tip I recommend is placing two rubber door stoppers (clean ones of course) at each side that way the book is not entirely flat on the table but slightly elevated so it doesn't stress the back spine too much.

I can't agree more about being careful where you buy from. Almost every single book I've ever purchased from places like Amazon has been shipped in nothing more than a simple cardboard box. No packaging or inner wrapping or anything like that. And probably about half the time the book comes with some sort of damage that was incurred during shipping. Usually the damage is a bent corner when it was dropped en route. Even Barnes & Noble generally just puts their books in a cardboard sleeve, again with no inner packaging for protection. The problem is that after a book sells out at places like CheapGraphicNovels and InStockTrades, and is no longer available at places like B&N, the only option is to go to places like Amazon and take your chances. To make matters worse, you will often pay a much higher price when placing orders there. Sometimes even as much as 100% mark up, due to the book's scarcity. It's a pretty shitty day when you spend $100 on a $20 tpb and it shows up with a corner caved in. But what other options do you have, after a book has gone OOP?

Ebay. I've had a lot of luck from users selling from their personal collection. They really tend to overpackage.

I live here in Australia and I always buy from my local comic shop and when I do leave my hometown I always check the reviews of any other comic shop I visit. The guys at my local shop are awesome and whenever something isn’t in stock they always go out of their way to try and get the book I’m looking for in their store ASAP. They also help out with any questions and when I’m with a friend or family member who doesn’t know what to buy or is unsure about the different characters and stories they explain it to them brilliantly. It’s one of the main reasons I buy from them, customer service is key. I went to a different store one time and the guy there igorned me when I asked him questions and even insulted me when I got some of my comic book knowledge wrong.

Curious if you would add #6--Dust Your Books (correctly). I don't own a single omnibus (yet) but I have a whole bunch of hardcovers and TPBs. I use a small portable vacuum with a hose attachment (w/a soft brush on the end) that I rigged up with a shoulder strap so I can have both hands free. I pull the book out from the shelf and vacuum off the accumulated dust making sure to keep the book tightly closed so dust (aka dirt) doesn't get down into the pages. In a pinch, I also use a medium, soft-bristled paint brush to remove dust before reading a book. I don't KNOW that dust getting down in the pages is terrible but it can't be good. There's a scene in the movie The Ninth Gate where an old dude in France has a rare book collection that he keeps lined up on the floor. He tells Johnny Depp, "I dust them every day." He sounds like he knows what he's talking about so that kinda stuck with me. Great video BTW!

Thank you for the tips. Regarding ebay, I suggest reaching out to the seller first if there is an issue. If the item is not as described on the listing, the seller should pay for return shipping and give a full refund to the buyer. The seller can also offer a partial refund if the buyer is willing to keep the book. If the seller insists on asking the buyer to pay for return shipping, I suggest filing a claim with ebay because that is against ebay's policy (Money Back Guarantee). I am saying this as an experienced ebay buyer and seller. It is the ebay seller's responsibility to make sure that you get the item in the condition that was stated on the listing. If the ebay seller disclosed the issue on the listing, then what I said earlier does not apply anymore. I don't have any experience selling on Amazon so I cannot talk about buying from third party sellers on Amazon.

Don't take the plastic off if you intend to resell at some point. A book is more desirable when the shrink wrap is still on and unread.
@BetaRayJim2 жыл бұрын
I've heard that keeping the plastic wrap on can actually cause damage to the books. Not sure if it's something to do with humidity, or what. Also, sometimes these books have printing errors. By removing the wrap you can verify the book is complete and free of defects. Thank you for watching 🤗

definitely should leave the books in the plastic until you read them because there were so much more sealed. a lot of times people buy books on impulse and it's best to keep them sealed in case you don't read them and you can always sell them for more. secondly I always read my books with the dust jackets on because the dust jacket is supposed to protect the cover of the book. you said the dust jacket could get stained so are you telling me you want the book cover to get stained instead.

Brought The Mighty Thor by Walter Simonson second hand. My first omni. The spine was streched like he had just began from the start and flipping the pages like you normally would do with a book. There were also some other few damages. I even asked for pictures before hand and i suspect him afterwards to have shown be pictures of another copy of the same book. :/ I can live with that a book look used, but i paid near the full price for it. Also it was in a facebook group with the focus on selling comics and the guy regulary sells various collections and singgle issues ind there and have never been called out for doing stuff like this, so i believed in him because of that. But anyway i can finally read the story were a frog gets the hammer. xD

I can attest with the spine. Important. Important. Important. My Marvel Zomnibus spine (my first omnibus) has been completely damaged to the point of barely fitting the dust jacket anymore. Only because I decided to open on page 1 and continue to page 2 and etc. . I've stretched my Preacher omnis and I hope the spine stays good on those.
@DenisSong9 ай бұрын
Marvel Zomnibus (both the original and the reprint) is notorious for having bad binding. Lack of spine stretching did not do this. In fact, spine stretching does next to nothing in protecting/reducing stress on the spine of modern bound books. (You might even end up damaging the spine, instead.) Ask any bookbinder about stretching the spines of modern books, and they'll tell you that it's unnecessary.

Don't remove the plastic wrap. Cause if you ever end up in a financial bind, it's gonna be Hella easier to sell the book if it can still be considered new and unread. In addiction, it's easier to keep track of what you have and haven't read. If it's wrapped, I haven't read it. Simple

My hallway is narrow and it wouldn’t have been feasible to move the large 4x4 unit out of the office when I move. So I went with 2 4x2 units instead. What’s the best way to keep dust free from the omnibus?
@BetaRayJim4 жыл бұрын
Great question! Unfortunately it's not a question I feel qualified to answer. I would guess a feather duster would be the way to go. Keeping an air purifier in the room and regular vacuums help keep the dust to a minimum.

Do you have to stretch the spine also on just regular hardcover graphic novels?
@BetaRayJim3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. When you open an omnibus up the spine creates an "eye" shape between the pages and the spine of the book. If any of your hardcovers have this "eye", I would recommend stretching the spine. I hope this helps.
