Yes, absolutely. The roses they sell carries a 5 year warranty, and they would replace it if they die during this period. Downside buying online would be not getting to pick the one you want.

Just a quick question, are all of your roses in containers and what zone do you live in that they survived the winter like that, just wondering.
@kenvoong5977 Жыл бұрын
Hi Linda, I live in uk. The weather is zone 8-9. Most of my rose are in the ground and many more in containers. Temperature can go as low as minus-8 degrees. Roses in uk generally does not need any over winter protection but a little of mulch does help.

Are many of your Roses in pots and do they do well?
@kenvoong59778 ай бұрын
Hi twiggy, yes I have many roses in pots and they all do well because I give them more attention than the ones in the ground. Certain varieties especially the taller and bushier varieties must be in the ground. Having roses isn’t a bad thing, they just need more regular feeding and watering in the summer. Make sure to pick more compact varieties and pots are at least 50cm in width. Hope this helps. Thank you 🙏

It looks like so many of your roses are in pots. What is your secret for the potting/draining substance each is potted in? I have several that were potted this year, but they didn't seem to enjoy that. They sit in a southern exposure and the sun brings the tempertures into the 90s and 100s for most of July/August. I would love to keep them on my deck, but want to have better success.
@kenvoong5977 Жыл бұрын
Hi Marla, most of my roses are in the ground and now I have no more room, so anymore I buy will have to be potted and this addition doesn’t seem to stop. The ones in pots does just as well compared to ones in the ground. The secret to maintaining their health is keep them watered everyday in hot sunny weather and liquid feed them every two weeks. I mix my soil with multi purpose compost with John inns no3 ( sandy soil) which helps to maintain moisture compost. Potted roses needs a lot more attention than the ones in the ground . So keep watering and feeding is the secret to success
@kenvoong5977 Жыл бұрын
When choosing varieties of roses, make sure to look for ones that are compact in size . One important factor is make sure the pots are at least 55cm diameter and over 65cm tall. Hope this helps
@marlaschaefer2544 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. The first time I potted bare root roses, all three of the David Austins didn't make it. I planted them in pots that were 45cm X 50cm , which I understood to be sufficient size. I used compost and commercial potting soil with some mychrorizae. Two of them sprouted leaves then those shriveled and died. Watering was done when the top of the soil seemed dry, but the underneath soil was damp. This year all survived the potting, but they seemed to really struggle in the heat . Once temps decreased, it was like they were totally different plants, healthier leaves, more buds and lovely blooms that didn't dry up in one day. I have been using fish liquid fertilizer this year. I hope I can continue to improve. I adore the lovely beauties on my deck.@@kenvoong5977

Looks like maybe my pots are too small. I first grew Crocus, Claire Austin and Lady of Shallot climber. These are the ones I grew that perished. This year I have grown Roald Dahl, 2 Bliss Parfuma (which one died) and First Crush. At least I still have 3 of the 4.These were all bare root except the Bliss which perished. I know that a lot of gardening is trial and error, but it's so sad to not get the beautiful blooms I see in your videos when I have the base stock to perhaps get them... @@kenvoong5977

This is a very interesting video of yours. In your previous video entitled "Most Fragrant David Austin Roses" you listed Desdemona as your #12 spot for fragrance. And Emily Bronte you don't list at all on that video for fragrance. In my garden Princess Alexandra of Kent has no fragrance. The only other roses that I grow are Gabriel Oak, which is outstanding, and Golden Celebration which is also outstanding. But you and I live in different countries and climates.
@kenvoong5977 Жыл бұрын
I felt Emily Brontë has a lovely fragrance and a top 5 performing rose, but her fragrance somehow doesn’t get on my top 12 list unfortunately. Minority people have said there were no fragrances on princess Alexandra but majorities who grow her thinks her scent is strong. I have over 50 Da varieties for comparison and scent is to each personal taste.

If I was to add another 3 more, Emily Brontë and Gabriel oak would make it that top 15 without a doubt

@kenvoong5977 Жыл бұрын
Hi Jane, how to maintain a healthy rosé is often down to how well we feed and look after them. A bad rose can be healthy if looked after with passion or vise verser and weather , location can also play a huge difference. But that Being said , Gertrude Jekyll is a good rose with fairly good disease resistant . Her blooms does last longer than most Da roses and very beautiful with a fragrant not many can match.
