regarding the Katong chicken rice, they used serve the other type of achar (you know the one in the spicy sauce with peanut and sesame toppings). I don't like the current type of achar which just pickled vegetables... i remember the chicken rice to be much better before they revamped the stall. i wasn't impressed by this stall the last time i had it around 2 years ago. anyway, you're spot on about the double mcspicy burger. even Mike Chen said it's the best fried chicken burger in the world.

Just found your channel, thanks for the recommendations! The Chicken Rice looks delicious, will definitely try it during my next visit. Hahaha, McSpicy, I guess I shouldn't have avoided McDonald's during my last visit, this one I also have to try :-) One slightly off topic question since you briefly talked about burnt/carcinogenic food in the video: I love the Singapore Kopi and drink it at home exclusively for some time now, but due to the roasting process with sugar and margarine I sometimes wonder if it is a bit more carcinogenic than regular coffee beans, do you have any information about that by any chance or know someone who does?
@Alderic.17 күн бұрын
you're welcome! hm I don't have expert information but I do know that the Singapore Kopi is roasted until the sugars are caramelized but they don't take it as far as to burn it. So, I would think it's similar to eating a creme brulee. I could be wrong though, would love to find out as well.
@hcdenton10 күн бұрын
@@Alderic. So I showed a few youtube videos of the roasting process to a friend of mine who is a long time hobby barista (and physicist by education), he told me that from what he can see, the beans are roasted very unevenly (apparently modern roasting process blow air through the beans for more even temperature distribution) and with likely a very high temperature and in one video we saw that the beans turned black even before sugar and margerine was added, so he advised me to send a kopi sample to a lab to have it tested for acrylamide levels for a start. He suspects they could be quite high. In the meantime, for the first time in months I made a "normal" coffee for breakfast, I'm not happy currently. I think I'll make another kopi later ;p
@Alderic.10 күн бұрын
@@hcdenton hm it's true that the roasting is probably uneven. I reckon that the acrylamide levels might even be higher than normal coffee. But, hopefully it's still well below whatever is considered toxic (fingers crossed). thank you so much for letting me know!
