My 2012 4 cyl Camry with 176K miles has to be one of the most reliable cars ever built. I've had no major issues other than needing a new fuel pump at about 160K.
@georgelomarro46773 жыл бұрын
One thing to note that might be incorrect in this video is regarding the A/C not working due to the failed Flow Sensor. On the 4cyl engine the A/C flow sensor is mounted on the outside of the compressor, and it can be replaced without removing the refrigerant. The Toyota compressors are all very similar, so it likely is the same on the 6cyl too. Only issue is location, getting down to the compressor without disturbing the a/c lines is the hard part. On my Scion tC (same 4cyl engine as the camry) I had to drain the coolant, remove the upper grill, the upper rad hose, remove the upper and front radiator support and the hood latch just so I could push the radiator a few inches forward to make enough space to get down to the compressor and sensor. And by the way, a simple test for a failed ac flow sensor is to put a magnet on it. Get a magnet on a telescopic stick and touch the sensor with it. If the ac suddenly starts blowing out ice cold air, the sensor is likely the problem.

There needs to be a class action lawsuit over those damn torque converters in the U series 6 speed transmissions. It's not just the 2012-14 camrys affected by this problem, the 2015-17 years suffer from it as well. Toyota didn't even bother to issue a recall but only a technical service bulletin, and don't wan't to acknowledge that it's even an issue on the later years. It's not like its a cheap fix and can even be a safety issue as the transmission doesn't shift right. My 2016 has the problem, I have tried everything, changed the transmission fluid, taken it to the dealer multiple times and complained and they wont admit there is a problem. Toyota should be held accountable for their mistakes. This shouldn't be a problem, especially from a car maker so "legendary" for it's reliabilty.
@m8x4254 жыл бұрын
I heard Toyota upgraded the Torque Converter for the later models. Sorry to see that didn't help the issue. I would write a complaint on carcomplaints or some other site. If the miles are low enough on your vehicle, you could also get in contact with the Toyota Area Service Manager.

My 2016 se 4 cylinder has an a/c issue. But then again it has 370k miles on it now. Still runs pretty well. And never really had a MAJOR ISSUE. The only thing I can complain about is the transmission. These sealed transmissions don't last forever. Mine is already slipping if I throttle it a quarter or less. Have to give it more gas for it to be ok. Now the differential seal is cracked and leaking. The only 2 problems is the a/c and transmission. Other than that this car still have enough life in it to go to 500k or more.

My 2012 Camry LE 4 cylinder has 235,000 miles. I replaced the alternator and water pump about 2 month's ago, both cv axles almost a year ago at like 200,000 miles, brakes 4 rotors and pads with OEM pads, disc hardware and shims (bought the 4 rotors at O'Reillys. Tune up 2 year's ago and put NGK iridiums, air filter every 10-12 month's along with the cabin air filter. Everything else pretty much basic like tires, alignment, headlights etc. Now I'm fixin to replace both headlights assemblies because of the stuff on the lenses. Other than that my baby still runs as good as it did when purchased new. Oh FYI, to replace the headlight assemblies the front bumper has to be removed along with a lot of plastic rivets which I'm not even gonna try and tackle I'll let a pro do that part. Just curious i have a 17 camry se 4cyl. Should I keep my oil level between the two holes or right at the top hole? I try to get it as close to the tip hole as possible without going above it. About 4.5 to 4.7 qrts is what the recommends at the most oil. I do 4.7 quarts, because that is normally what drains out. Also speaking of quality oil. I use Napa 0w 20 synthetic oil. I over heard that valvoline makes Napa oil. I was thinking about switching to pensoil. I've only done two oil changes so far. What do you recommend?

Misfires are bad for catylictic converters. This is why the check engine light flashes once per second. Cats have a high temp shell and a ceramic grid inside washed with expensive noble metals. Misfire allow raw fuel to enter and they get real hot. Once this happens, the ceramic grid can moves, chunks break off, pieces turn sideways and restrict exhaust flow. So, not only does the original root problem need repaired, not you need a catalytic converter that sized right with pre & post O2 sensors spaced the same distance as before. Many aftermarket cats are too small for a 6 cylinder car but work great on a 4 cylinder. They hold oxygen until the fuel mixture goes rich, then release this to allow gases to burn off before leaving the tailpipe. Changes to fuel pump design, O2 sensor design, heating sensors, and variable valve timing could perform well but act like “EGR” with late intake valve closing. Plus, each component is checked by the “Engine Control Module” by using Electrical checks once started or under road speed conditions and some are turned on when not needed to measure a result to make sure the function right. The “ECM/PCM” is a busy guys after a cold start and had to operate the engine. If a separate control module is used for the transmission it is an “ECM”. If it controls both, then it’s call a “PCM”. ASE Master-Retired.

I'm having the battery light issue on my '12 Camry 4cyl. It's weird bc it starts ok but the light comes on and after I drive it or idle it 15 minutes or so it goes off. I changed batteries and got a newer one out of my truck and still did it. Sometimes the light doesn't come on at all for up to 4 days. Also when it does come on it's only for the first start of the day. Each additional restart the light doesn't come on. I bought a reman alternator but haven't put it on yet. The alt that's on it and battery both passed on O'Reilly's tester. It seems like the alt is charging and that's why the light goes off. Is it possible for it to be bad still given that info? Could it be a bad ground? I thought it was a parasitic drain given the symptoms but Im not good with the newer vehicles admittedly. That's why I bought an '87 squarebody truck. Thanks for any advice or suggestions etc.

Upgrades potentially include the following (depending on what can be obtained aftermarket, by the way, does anyone know of any quality aftermarket products that hopefully incorporate multiple functions into one device, hence reducing dashboard clutter): • Alert - Rear Cross Traffic (when reversing) • Alert/Warning - Collision Forward -- Potential Aftermarket solution is the Navman MIVUE860DC TYRE Dash Cam • Blind Spot Sensor - Parkmate PTS-440BSD Sensor Front & Rear Blind Spot Detection System, Mongoose MBSW4 SURFACE MOUNT MODEL, • Brake Emergency Display - Hazard/Stoplights • Control - Crash Avoidance with Braking (Low spd) • Control - Pedestrian Avoidance with Braking • Lane Departure Warning - Potential Aftermarket solution is the Navman MIVUE860DC TYRE Dash Cam or Parkmate PTS-440BSD Sensor Front & Rear Blind Spot Detection System • Parking Assistance - Graphical Display • Park Distance - Front & Rear - Steelmate PTSV810 Front & Rear PARKING SENSOR KIT 8-SENSOR KIT, Pioneer Reverse Sensor Kit for Smartphone Multimedia Tuner - ND-PS1, Kemax Reversing Camera & Parking Assist Sensor Kit, Powertrain 4.3in. Reversing Camera With Sensors, PARKMATE REAR PARKING ASSIST SYSTEM WITH AUDIBLE ALERT • LED Headlights • Daytime Running Lamps - LED • High Beam Auto Dipping • Rain Sensor (Auto wipers) • Power - Tailgate/Boot • Digital Radio Receiver (DAB+) • Colour Display Screen - Front • Digital Instrument Display - Partial • Tyre Pressure Sensor -- Potential Aftermarket solution is the Navman MIVUE860DC TYRE Dash Cam Additional aftermarket upgrades: Heads up Display that shows speed, GPS directions (like the HUD in the Citroen DS5), Reverse Camera would be fantastic

I have a 2010 Camry with a check engine light. I took it to the mechanic and they did all the test for an emission problem and found nothing wrong with my car. Mechanic says its the computer or something and it needs to go to the dealer to flash the component. How or what is "flashing" mean?
@FlyingV5552 жыл бұрын
It means resetting the computer system, which resets the car’s electronic control system and erases all the trouble codes

Battery lights never come on. Things just fail. I have had a alternator fail in the past on a 2007 Avalon and I lost poewersteering and the car studded til I got it to a shop.

Had this problem with my 92 Camry. Tried everything from cleaning throttle body replacing air intake tube using fuel system cleaners.. Turns out it was just the coolant temperature sensor that was broken.. Only like a $25 fix .. I guess without this sensor ur car always assumes the car is cool so it just floods the engine with unburned fuel causing it to stall!!

Be careful when replacing coil pack number five in a Lexus ES 350 6 cylinder. There is a sensor back there that a lot of people break the wire by mistake.

I drive an old ‘85 22r PU it’s such a simple motor. Manual Gets 33mpg true. I am rebuilding her top to bottom including port n polish head and carb. Flow header/exhaust. My wife wants a hybrid for her. Looked at a 2011 Camry Hybrid. Only gets 33mpg!!! Why not 40+?? Plus the motor burns excess oil so Toyota has a recall to rebuild them. Is that true? And due to age the battery packs need replacing at$14,000 a pop Is this true? This is not the Toyota I am used to.!

when you say "sensitive to oil changes" are you saying it is sensitive to changing the brand of oil or the timing between oil changes, or just failure to maintain proper oil change maintenance negatively affects the solenoids?

What engine are good on these vehicles v6 or 4 cylinder and which models are the most reliable?
@DirtyMoney19712 жыл бұрын
2007-2009 Toyota Camry do not buy the 4 cylinder versions unless you can find out if Toyota has done their required warranty engine repair work on it! They have an internal memo in regards to these repairs, which is why very few vehicles will have the required engine repair performed! Just a lil FYI for all of us!! 😎💯🔥💰👌🏿🔥💰💲

I have a 2014 camry the a c stopped working, took it to the dealer they added freon, the next day it continued to blow hot air. I contacted the dealer and advised them of the same issue I had already paid them for they told me to let them keep it to try to find the issue, No this is what I already paid for what they said was the issue. Trying to get more money. How would the dealership not get the problem solved the first time.
