I did the NMBDR with some friends last fall and I was on the 23 R, and another friend was on the previous model S. We completed the expert sections without any problems, and that was before Chloride canyon was graded into an easy route. The biggest difference was just the speed to get through things, I could stand on the pegs and blow through obstacles where he had to be a little slower and more careful. Both bikes did the whole thing with no problems though, S is just fine offroad especially for the less aggressive rider.

I was thinking that I am not an aggressive rider off-road. I prefer to follow the lines of the guys in the middleweight one, but in the twisties, I like to push to the limit. I am getting the S definitely.

Today I took my '22 1290 SAS to Kings River Overlook here in Arkansas. This is about 6 miles of rocky, but mostly well maintained, forest road. We had a ton of sleet this week and it was still deep in the curves that are shaded and the entire road was a soupy muddy mess. Offroad suspension and throttle got me through with no issue. Currently run Shinko 705s and they did a decent job. What I love about the S is it can still manage some true offroad riding...and then you can get back on the highway, put everything in 'Sport' and just kill it in the curves. The SAS is just amazing for my needs. I have my seat in high but use the pegs to get on the bike if I have luggage on. I am also amazed at the gas mileage; I average in the mid 40s in mixed riding which will get me around 250 miles on a tank.

I'd happily be your motorcycle buddy. But me thinks we live faaar apart. The background music is fine by me. It's probably difficult to find uncopyrighted music. Keep doin' what yer doin'. I enjoy your content. No bias. No condescending remarks. Just thoughts and experiences from a new rider. Cheers from British Columbia, Canada.

Lots of guys don’t have friends these days! Sportbikes are a party on wheels with instant friends lol. Adv nope! Anyway with the new S tech pack giving full suspension and preload adjustments the S is a good option off-road now. Surprised they don’t offer spoked wheels though like my 1190S.

As a proud rider of a 2018 1290 SAS. I can safely say that I agree with your listing 100%. After I used to daily ride my Dads 1290 SAR. I believe the S is just more for me and my riding style. (That doesnt mean I wont take it to the same places my old man goes lol)

Thx for pointing that out. Not sure what’s happening here. It’s doing it for me as well. But not on the original file

I think the SAS is a much smarter choice for most. I reckon there is serious overestimation of how much trail riding when people buy 4WD's and Adventure bikes. I ride my SAS every working day, and its all tarmac, so 90% of my riding isn't on dirt.

Thx for the comment Stitch! I'm in the same boat road mine everywhere last summer. And most of it is pavement.

They are great bikes and a wise choice. You need a tighter rack on the back though, those paniers stick out way too far. I know it's for another debate (soft vs. hard luggage) but, with a set up like that you're only good for the highway, no trail or city!
@zeromileadv2 жыл бұрын
Thx for the comment Danim. So far they have been perfect for my riding style. I don't live close to a big city, but they are perfect around town and allow me to lock my helmet and jacket in them so I dont have to carry all that stuff with me. I also haven't had any issued with them on dirt roads or fire roads (which is the extent of my current off road ability). Like I mentioned in the video, I don't plan on doing any really heavy off roading which is why I chose the S over the R 😀

You made a great choice. 👌 I'd love to get the 1290s . I have the 1190R and love it. It's only gripe is that you get a saw arse after about 300km 🤣 where I think the 1290s you can ride the whole day. Best power feeling of all the adv bikes

to me the s makes no sence. if you arent going to get the all out offroad with the r the BMW gs will serve you better, lower seat height, better suspension for what you want to do, better on the hiway. and the cherry on top you can take the extra 8mpg to the bank.
@zeromileadv6 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I see where you're coming from. For me, the seat height on the KTM 1290 SAS was actually more manageable than the 1250 GS, which played a big role in my decision. While the BMW GS does have great suspension and fuel efficiency, the KTM offered the power and features I was looking for. It's all about finding the right fit for each rider's needs and preferences. Appreciate your perspective!

What web site did you go to for the suspension setting?

Which suspension settings are you referring to?

Im on the market for ktm 1290 super adventure. I am not offroad rider, but I think I prefer R over S. Why? Main reason for me...1. It looks better on spoke wheels and I dont want to pay extra for another set of wheels on S type. 2. I dont like electronic suspension...if its not there , it can not stop working as my previous Ducati 1200 . 3...sit is higher, which means more comfortable for longer rides.. ......if I need even more comfy bike , I would go for bmw1250 gs adv....and If I need more sport oriented bike...I would probably go for sport bike, or Multistrada V4.... anyway..thanks for your video, I still dont know which one to buy...😂😂😂

Ducati electronic suspension and fuel range is shocking compared to KTM, speaking from ownership experience
@michaelswierczek7894 Жыл бұрын
@@b1gd312 thanks, by shocking you mean Ducati is much better or worst? Im going for test ride next week finally...😍
@b1gd312 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelswierczek7894 much much worse for ducati, both my 1260 Pikes Peak and new V4's are only reporting 150 mile tank ranges, 40% more use compared directly to KTM SA, this has also been covered in many places, combined with faulty expensive fix fuel range sensors, I did a four day trip in Wales with mine last year and other riders were shocked by how much I needed to stop for fuel, a host of other reasons mean I'll never buy another ducati, nice to look at yes, not great to live with, suspension and front end aero design was also a let down.

Seat to peg distance is same for r and s. R has a higher stance. Comfortwise it should be the same.
