TOP 5 Reasons We’re Moving To The Athens Georgia Area

In this week’s Deep Houseboat Life video, we’ll share the top 5 reasons we’re leaving the city and moving to the Athens, Georgia area. In last week’s moving vlog, we shared the news that we’re moving away from big city Atlanta to small town Watkinsville near Athens, GA. We’re primarily leaving Atlanta for small town life to raise our daughter close to where Jessie grew up on a farm and still has a lot of family.
This video will cover the top 5 reasons other than family that make us excited about embracing small town life and relocating to Watkinsville in Oconee County, Georgia, which is a little over an hour east of Atlanta. Leaving city life behind can be a bit daunting, so we’re happy to share in case anyone else is thinking of making a similar move. We’re looking forward to moving to one of the best small towns in America because of the community feel, the more relaxed lifestyle, the kid-focused environment, our long-term business goals, and the area’s vibrant culture.

We lived in Metro Atlanta (Cobb Co) for 13 years before we fled with our lives west to Paulding county. 😬 😉 Marietta had turned bat sh** crazy. 😂 Paulding only had about 5,000 residents at the time we moved. Best, best, best decision ever!! 2 acres, a veggie garden, 4 wheeler rides, a lake, an incredible neighborhood, lovely neighbors, fantastic schools and literally everything else you'd never find in Cobb. 🙄 We camped and fished on Lake Acworth/Allatoona almost every weekend! Now we live in sucky FL. 🤦‍♀😜 Sure do miss the small town feel of GA. Hopefully we'll make it back someday!! Just found your channel today and watched a bunch of videos...then promptly subscribed! 😉 I think Claire is probably the cutest thing on 2 legs. 😍 Dory is DEFINITELY the cutest thing on 4!! 😀 Hope y'all have a great weekend and please stay safe!♥

Hey, Jane!! Welcome to our channel! So happy you have found us and have become a subscriber. We really do thank you for doing that. We are SO lucky to have both Dory and Clare. They are both the sweetest and brighten our lives. Wow, you must have also seen Paulding County go through some growth, too! Hopefully it still has that small town feel. Marietta is very overcrowded these days, like much of metro ATL. We are really happy to be further away from that hustle and bustle and love Watkinsville and the Athens area. Feels like we’re part of a community again, and we get to enjoy lots of the stuff that you mentioned. We completely understand why the move. Smaller town life is fantastic. But, like all good things, that small town will turn into the same bigger town problem. I've seen this in 3 different small towns i grew up in. So many big city people have moved out and can work remotely now. All we can do is enjoy it while it lasts. Still worth it! Thank you for the well-wishes, Ben! That area is growing so much right now. Our new neighbors there also just moved to town…from Oregon! And our realtor was helping a couple move from…Holland! Wow! It’s definitely not the same small town from 20 years ago. Lots of road widening going on to accommodate the growth. We hope we can get about ten years there before it feels overwhelming, if it gets to that point. Though, we’d much rather be part of a growing town than a dying one. We do feel for the people that were already there and don’t necessarily want the growth. Like you said, enjoy it while it lasts and it is worth it! We’re looking forward to it!

Welcome to Watkinsville! We lived there many years ago but decided to move out a bit further. Watkinsville is building up fast. It's a great place to raise a family and the schools are fantastic! Sidenote... everyone does know everyone and they talk. I've found that men are as bad as women. More gossip at the feed store than the nail salon! Lol! I love this area.
