Even without the schools Rotterdam was already a very diverse place (most diverse of The Netherland with 60% non-Dutch ethnic). Mostly because of it's harbour and the influx of foreign workers that helped rebuild Rotterdam after the war and like you mentioned higher education, entrepreneurship, tech and I think architecture and art as well. Also the independency of former colony Surinam in 1975 brought many new people to Rotterdam. :-)

There is no reason for living in Rotterdam, unless you like crowds, traffic jams, exspensiv housing, tourists, criminality. etc. 🤣

You really criticize Rotterdam for having tourists? Then you haven't seen Amsterdam yet. There are many tourists. Rotterdam has very few tourists because Rotterdam is an underrated city. People think Rotterdam is a boring, industrial, ugly harbour city with nothing to offer since it was completely destroyed in 1940 duo to World War 2.
