way back in the 80s, my dad and uncle saw an advertisement in the paper for a cornsnake for sale that was a 1/3 the price at the petstore, keep in mind only wc and normals were available. they go pick it up and bring it home in a pillow case and my uncle hands me the pillow case while he goes to set up an enclosure and the snake is trying to bite me through the bag, we take it out and it starts lighting everyone with in reach up, settles down in the cage and starts putting away food, but you could never hold it with out it lighting you up. we had that snake for 3 years and then donated it to the washington zoo.

Im super grateful to see that you said Most Corn Snakes are usually pretty Docile as i have heard people before spreading rumors that corn snakes literally cant bite. My Corn Snake Blue is very calm and friendly now, but she was SO viscous the first week of owning her, I could hardly touch her. The moment i lifted the hides she would immediatly pounce up and strike pose so hard she would almost fall over, and the moment got too close she would bite hiss and bite. But she's so incredibly friendly now and i love her with my life.

The only one of my reptiles that has 'bit' me is my leopard gecko, but this was when I first brought her home, so I was a total stranger to her. Now she is the princess of nose-to-nose boops. Think my beardie was the easiest, as with the others I had to bring home then get them used to their enclosures and then slowly start light handling to get them used to me, but with him it was more a case of opening the container he travelled home in and he just looked as if to say "so you're my hoomin now? Cool, let's snuggle!" He is so laid back, he's practically comatose! 😆 Think everyone should have a bearded dragon, they are just the best to hang out with no matter what you're doing!

Personal pick for me are boa constrictors (BCC OR BCI), though I can't necessarily recommend them unless you are willing to work with a large, heavy-bodied snake. In 15 years of snake-keeping, they have always been the most gentle snakes I've dealt with. Never been bitten or even struck at by one. I will stress the importance of socializing any reptile from a young age, though. Learning their body language and getting them used to people as babies will make their (and in return your) life much easier - less stress for the animal, less stress for you.
@Kaloufie
@Kaloufie 11 ай бұрын
I was bitten by one but it was 100% the fault of a customer I was showing them too. Jerk demanded to see the boa. I was holding it in my hands as we had a policy customers couldn't hold the reptiles. The customer took he's hand and right in front of the snakes face started doing like prey movement...it's 2 days before feeding. I told him to not do that and put my hand up to shield the poor boa and they got me. Not their fault at all. I wanted to scream at the customer who then said the boa was agressive....

Mine has never bitten me- BUT! My first experience with one at an expo years ago was the gecko biting the breeder. 😅 (I asked how you can tell male from female, she went to show me how by picking up and turning the gecko over… and he didn’t like that. CHOMP. Though that was also a great example of the worst level of bite they can actually deliver, which wasn’t much!)

I'd put Rosy Boas on this list. I got one about 9 months ago as a yearling and she's the most placid reptile I've ever held. I've heard the same from other RB keepers. And yes, I'd love to see a video about the most likely to bite. I also second the idea of a vid on best reptiles for people with handicaps. I'm in a wheelchair and I had to reasearch and rethink what animals I could successfully keep. As an aside, I'd like to thank you for the inspiration to get back into keeping reptiles after a decade and a half absence. I had forgotten just how wonderful they are to have around the house and how much joy they spark in me. 💖

Before I even clicked on this video I was like “bearded dragon 100%.” I have 6 currently and have been keeping them since I was 10, the only bites I’ve gotten were either from hand feeding uncoordinated and very excited beardies, or from hormonal males who smelled a female on me. But even then, the bites are extremely rare. With owning 6, I get bitten maybe once or twice every year or two, that’s about it. Beardies are such tame and placid animals, they literally do not care. Now, one of mine is definitely an outlier, she’s extremely feisty in her tank and has very strict boundaries on where she tolerates touching, but once I take her out she’s super sweet and clingy, and I’ve only been bitten by her a few times when she was a very defensive baby. I’ve taken my beardies to a few programs before and I’ve had kids as young as 2, ask to hold them without problem. Beardies are fantastic animals when it comes to handling ❤❤❤

I think with the beardies something to mention would be their sass. I have a 1.5 year old male who will sometimes pancake himself with a huff and gape at me. But I scoop him up anyway and I don't get bit. The only time he bit me was my own fault when I wanted to try feeding him with fingers instead of tongs. He was excited. Totally on me. And after my older rescue beardie passed away I got a wee lass. 3 of her could fit in one hand. She also does the pancake puff sass at me, even when she asks for attention at the doors. I find it hilarious and cute, because just like my boy, she drops the show as soon as I scoop her. She has yet to bite me despite being more nervous than my boy. But some folks do think that the show means they're gonna get bitten which can make them less popular. Also I'm curious to think where a ball python (that's at least somewhat socialized) would fit? Like how far from #5 do you think they'd be? So many of them just try to hide their little faces instead of coil back.

We’ve had a leopard gecko for 11 years now and he is the coolest. He hissed once most of the time he just looks annoyed when he’s held. I love watching him eat. He used to grab crickets but the older he go he was like nah fam give me them worms. When he sees them he perks his head up and just stares and then misses at least three time before he gets one!🤣🤣🤣. But the best is every time he eats one he licks his lips! He’s getting old I hate to think he won’t be around much longer!

I wish anoles had made it on to this list. I have kept a few species of anoles, never once have I been bit. They are occasionally a hint flighty, but great pets once socialized.

Adam, I agree with your picks but as any regular viewer knows Diamond is an ear nibbler. Also I think its funny you are talking about how non-bitey beardies are while you are wearing a bitey bois club shirt with Diamond on it. PS I think hognoses belong on this list too.

Bitey isn't always a bad thing. I keep several species and my Tokay is my favorite. Probably due to a lengthy trust process that makes you earn your reward in the end. Also of all my snakes my boas are chill. Never been bitten by either boa but BPs have caught me slippin on a water change numerous times.

I also have a crested gecko called chicken 😇 she's 14 now. I have 13 of them and 2 will bite but the others either run away or are sweetheart. They only take about 5 mins to settle down and once they do they just kind of chill like yours is 🥰🥰

I just got my beardie. My kids came up with an original name of mushu. Yeah. Creative. But he’s a cow! The lady I rescued him from said he was 8 months old. He’s twice as big as Diamond. He didn’t have the right heat lamp so he was freezing and he had reptile carpet. Now he’s on a schedule and a proper environment. We all Love Moo. Especially the kids because he is so friendly. He’s just large. Tip of his nose to the tip of his tail he’s over 19”. In your experience, do bearded dragons like coconut fiber for substrate? Thanks for your tips and help.

A well socialized monitor, most kinds of snakes. It all depends on their individual personality and their care. Reptiles bite things they want to eat or things they think wants to eat them. If you build trust with them and have a feeding routine, you probably won't get bit.

Burms lol. They are basically giant ball pythons. Sure you can find the occasional bitey baby or super unsocalized adult but for the most part, they are super docile. Its kinda unfortunate they get so big because if they stayed smaller they would probably be one of the best bet snakes.

The AFT I took care of bit me hard enough to draw blood because I was holding a cricket and he missed 🤦‍♂️. Use tongs for food if you need to handfeed and you'll be fine.

Adam, I have a question that i have never seen addressed. I have 3 ball pythons and love them all. I am able to care for them for now. I am confined to a wheelchair with a progressive form of Muscular Dystrophy called Pompe's disease. When I got diagnosed I watched a lot of YT vids and felt an instant attraction to ball pythons and other reptiles. I love my babies but as we all know BP's are not know for their desire to socialize. I was wondering if you would do a presentation or post here the top 5 reptiles for the handicapped? I am unable to chase anything around so no flighty at all. Sluggish like a wet sponge is more my speed. I am not worried about bites as long as its an animal that likes to socialize. My ball pythons are my emotional support animals when I am having a bad day but I am pretty sure they would prefer to pass that honor onto someone else lol So, if you have the time I would really like to know your views on this rather unusual issue. I might recommend you read up on the symptoms only for Pompe's to see where I am headed. That might change your view on which animal would likely be a good fit. Love the channel and while I have never subscribed, I am doing so now.
