Thanks for the video, I see WAY too many click bait titles with these hurricane channels and it's exhausting. We want facts and there's only one channel out of the lot that explained it which is we have a dry air and wind shear that is gonna weaken the storm. But the way these weather channels act they hype up all these models and treat it as fact rather then look in between the lines. This Hurricane Season has been a pretty big dud beyond some major storms like Debbie or Beryl but beyond that it's been fish storms for the majority and with Fall now hitting and colder drops happening the chance of a hurricane is less and less and if we do get more storms this season it'll probably be at best a Cat 1 or a Tropical storm. But that's the modern culture of youtube for ya, content creators care more about you clicking their video then being professional and stating facts. Though I do appreciate it because now I am smarter with the weather and know what to look out for and what to read for. Ocean Temps for example DOES NOT equal you're gonna have an automatically strong hurricane season that's like saying to bake a cake all you need is a dozen eggs but ignore every other recipe for the cake. Thank you for the video have a great day.
@vespasianflavius2766Ай бұрын
Well put. notice they are never to hyped though if something is coming their way. Hurricane season in my opinion is only exciting for those who will never have to deal with these storms.
@mrdude4124Ай бұрын
@@vespasianflavius2766 And it's nerve racking for people that live in hurricane areas that are constantly on the look out for such weather just to see youtube content creators take advantage of that so they can get attention to their channels. I love the weather and seeing what is going on but we gotta stop abusing these models just for click bait engagements it's not healthy and it raises the risk of people slowly distrusting weather people online and that's the real danger when they then lose trust in sources and actively ignore weather reports when a bad one does come in.

The worst thing to do is wait until everyone else is trying to prepare also. When you wait until it’s certain that a storm will impact your area, you are fighting crowds, panic and the very sensitive and fragile supply system. I have enjoyed this channel and weather coverage but I’m not a fan of this message.
@evanfrybergerАй бұрын
Not everyone has the money to buy a bunch of groceries and water everytime something shows up on the models. And when this video was released the model spread was to big to encourage any cities to do those kinds of preperations.
@ericab3954Ай бұрын
@@evanfryberger The point of preparing is so you don’t have run out and spend a bunch of money every time models start to show something. Prepping for a hurricane should, for most people, mean putting back supplies a little at a time over weeks months and years. Again I would not have made my message be “don’t prepare because we don’t know what the storms will do. Prepare now. This one might not impact you, but one day, there’s a good chance one will.” I just think that wha a lot of folks may take out of this video is “don’t listen to the other weather analysts out there. Just listen to me. “ I like weather, it fascinates me and I listen to a lot of weather related channels. And I have yet to watch a video about this system where anyone said anything is certain and this will definitely hit this area. So telling people not to prep yet is unsafe and disappointing in my opinion. I wish more weather content creators started reminding folks as part of their overall message that depending where they live, that preparing for these weather events should be a part of their every day life. If my feedback isn’t welcome I apologize for assuming it might be taken into consideration. I think that professionals in this field should worry less about what their “competition” is doing/saying and more about helping people plan and prepare for the weather.

One other meteorology KZbinr did make an interesting point though. He plotted the track of every storm that formed historically by a gyre in that area near the Yucatan in the month of September and plotted their trajectory. He found that at that time of year there was a real trend for the Gulf storms to move with a somewhat more eastern track. I'd be curious what you think about that argument. He also said that we have no idea what would happen but still tended to fear monger. I live in Houston. I really don't want another hurricane this year!
@mrdude4124Ай бұрын
One weather reporter I saw did predict that with the weather trends we've been getting most of September would see no major storms up until the end of September due to the dry air pushing down into the caribbean and the left over dust from the Sahara actively choking out any storm. Even then the pressure points have been pulling most storms to the north Atlantic creating tons of Fish Storms beyond the one that hit Bermuda not too long ago. But yeah so many weather people the last few days been hyping up this tropical depression in the South Caribbean as the next big major storm and it's been several days of just "Oh now this model is doing this!" and "Now it's doing that!" and with big click bait titles that make it like a major storm is gonna hit that even despite them saying is official yet to "stay prepare" that's code talk for these content creators to keep you on the edge of your seat so you then click the next video they release about the made up storm model they made. I hate the fear monger culture of weather people.

I've lived in Florida most of my life since I wass 5 years old and have seen the damage they can do, so whenever I hear that a hurricane could hit Florida I automatically start having panic attacks until it hits or one of these weather predictors says it's definitely not headed towards Florida. It causes me a lot of anxiety, which I'm sure it does for others also!
@synaptichorizonsАй бұрын
Yeah it looks like maybe the NWC was 100% right witnessed by the fact that you came out the very next day and had to eat your words. You should yield your pretty good predictive capabilities to what the real professionals say. However I still think you offer a great service to your KZbin subscribers by doing your best to help warm people about to experience severe weather like Tornadoes or baseball sized Hail etc. That is a super good service, keep it up.

Again when this video was made there was signifcant uncertainty in the models and many were jumping the gun. The same people called for Debby, Beryl (at US lanfall) and Francine to be a Cat 3+ when uncertainty was just as high. They were all Cat 1's. I did not make any definitive forecasts in this video and just asked people to be patient for more certainty. Saying there is certainty when theres not is a lie. Which is the point of this video you obviously missed. Keep in mind at the point of this video there was no NHC forecast yet indicating landfall location or strength for a very specific reason - uncertainty was too high. Two days after this video certainty became higher and it became clearer we were dealing with a dangerous storm. Thats how forecasting works - people that hype or fear monger in the face of uncertainty are usually wrong 80% of the time. It just happens they got lucky this time. But if you look at how they handled the last three hurricane landfalls you will see every single one of their forecasts were dead wrong due to jumping the gun and obvious lack of knowledge when dealing with forecasting and communicating hurricane impacts. Have a nice day

Yes, I know warm water is only 1 ingredient, but all the models are showing all the ingredients are in place for a tropical system. Most tracks take this directly over some of the warmest waters in the Gulf. Michael went from a TS to Cat 5 in two days in the same general area. It is NOT a lie to say warm waters make stronger storms.

As someone said if you live on Gulf Coast, you should already be prepared. Yes, but thats kind of a ignorant assumption. Some people, most, need to secure patio furnature, make sure they have fuel for a generator, or just make sure things are ready for lots of rain, some wind, or you mow your hayfield of a yard as its getting a little high and if we have lots of rain, hello, it's going to grow higher. 😮. I guess based on some of the downplayers, first responders can wait for a mass casualty event to swing by Walgreens for some bandaids instead of planning ahead. Js

@@evanfryberger JS, if people who lived in areas where tornados are common, flooding, hurricanes, even earthquakes were always a threat, you will be surprised of those who are not prepared. Just watch the evening news of all the people fighting over a can of tuna or running down to the gas station in a down pour trying to fill up 4 or 5 gas cans at the 11th hour, just shows one would think these people are always ready for the storm. Side note. One would think people who go out on the ocean or large lake (like the great lakes) in a boat, they would be prepared for most emergencies. Yep, one would think. But I'm here to tell you, many many times, they are not. So, it was dumb of me back in those days to expect anyone casting off their lines had a radio, a EPIRB or PLB, Flares or just file a float plan, that did not. So, was just saying, as someone did post, expecting people to be prepared for bad weather, who live in areas prone to it, is just bad assumptions. 73's ..
